Remus looked up from the book he was reading at the sound of running feet, and soon after Harry appeared, pyjamas on and his hair the usual mess. He paid no attention to Remus as he threw himself onto the floor and squirmed his way underneath the sofa table. Remus shook his head in amusement as he turned his gaze back on the book.
Sirius was in charge of bedtime tonight but by the look of things, it wasn’t going too well. Remus was not going to get involved, that much was clear, but he couldn’t help but grin as Sirius came into the sitting room, looking a little frazzled. “Where’s Harry?”
“No idea,” Remus lied easily, gaze flickering pointedly to the table, his words followed by a shuffle and a low giggle.
Sirius hid his own smile as he strode further into the room, exaggeratedly checking behind the armchair.
“I can’t believe I’ve lost him,” he sighed, dramatically.
“Sorry, Pads,” Remus grinned. “Can’t help you, haven’t seen him.”
There was another shuffle and giggle as Sirius lifted a blanket as if looking for Harry underneath it, ”Where is he?”
Remus snorted softly, watching fondly as Sirius worked his way around the room, slowly closing in on Harry’s hiding place. He stopped next it, winking at Remus before he quickly dropped down, hands closing around the three year old’s ankles as he pulled him out from underneath the table, Harry shrieking excitedly.
”There you are,” Sirius grinned at Harry’s ecstatic noises.
”You finded me, Pa’foot!”
Sirius laughed as he hoisted Harry into the air, flipping him upside down which earned him another delighted shriek. ”Yeah, I found you, but now it’s really time for bed.”
”No!” Harry protested between fits of laughter, ”One more time!”
Remus chuckled as Sirius threw Harry into the air again, making him shriek with laughter.
”Perfect way to get him to settle, Pads,” he said, unable to keep the amusement out of his voice as he watched them.
”Nah, he’ll be okay,” Sirius said, grinning as he poked Harry’s side lightly, making him squirm and giggle. ”You’ll be okay, won’t you Haz?”
”Yes,” Harry nodded emphatically and Remus felt his lip twitch into a grin.
”Well, can’t argue with that,” he conceded in mock-seriousness. ”I’ll come in and say good night in a bit then.”
He returned to his book as Sirius carried Harry off, loud laughter echoing through the house. Yeah, Sirius would have his work cut out for him.
