Work Text:

Mom and Dad took Morgan.

We have Morgan back, they’d said with a smile, Chad’s baby sibling unconscious between them.

Morgan looked so small, battered and bloodied in ways they never were if Alex was around. It’ll just take a little work to have them remember.

Remember. Did Morgan remember?

Did Morgan remember the way Alex would drop everything when they were in trouble? The crimes that had been prevented solely because Morgan needed immediate help were innumerable— Chad had stopped trying to count long ago.

Alex would never let their parents take Morgan, let alone hurt them.

Chad knew what he had to do.

He smiled. “Wonderful! I will speak with them when they wake up!”

Chad had his script before he was back to his base.

The usual talking points. Morgan, my sidekick! It’s wonderful to see you again! It’s me, Chad, your brother!

Mom and Dad said you’ve returned to the fold so I’m here to pick you up. Just enough to keep their parents’ off their back.

Here is where Morgan would insult him— his little sibling would summon every ounce of energy they had to make their feelings known, and Chad would nearly collapse, knowing intimately that Morgan was okay.

Classic Morgan, Chad would continue, trying not to sob with relief, always quick with the quips! But there’s no need to be so hostile, especially not with Mom and Dad right outside the door.

Morgan was the smart one. Morgan could figure it out.

What if they didn’t, though?

I’m just trying to help you, Chad would say, and Morgan would snipe back.

That’s fine— Chad could handle that.

I see your years of villainy have left you with a villain’s sense of humor, but let’s not waste time telling jokes.

Morgan needed to listen to them and heed their words.

The sooner you cooperate the sooner we can get you back where you belong.

By Alex’s side.

That was where Morgan belonged, and Chad knew that now.
