Work Text:
Marcus Flint sat with his head in his hands on the couch in his best friend's apartment. Adrian Pucey stood in the doorway between the kitchen and the living room. Marcus had shown up after his latest date with a new girl and Adrian didn’t know how to handle his friend when he was like this.
“ I thought love was only true in fairy tales. Meant for someone else but not for me.” Marcus started. He groaned, leaning back against the couch. “Love was out to get me, that's the way it seemed, disappointment haunted all of my dreams.” Adrian couldn’t figure out who he was talking to, nothing he was saying made sense.
Marcus turned his attention to his friend and sighed heavily, “Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer.
Not a trace of doubt in my mind, I'm in love.” Marcus told him, his eyes closed and he sighed again. “I'm a believer, I couldn't leave her if I tried.”
“Who?” Adrian asked, he knew nothing about this woman. Whoever it was, his friend had fallen hard for her. The last few girls that entered the life of the large man sitting on his couch didn’t end well. One cheated, they all made him feel insecure with his size, and another dumped him in a public place leaving him embarrassed. Marcus always gives 100% of himself to anyone he’s dating.
“I thought love was more or less a giving thing, it seemed the more I gave the less I got.” Marcus turned his attention back to his friend. “What's the use in tryin'? When all you get is pain? When I needed sunshine, I got rain.”
“Marcus, who is this woman, I need to make sure she’s not going to fuck you over.” Adrian said sternly, unsure how to feel about another broom bunny hopping into his bed. Marcus looked at his friend and grinned.
“When I saw her face, I knew she was the one for me. Adrian, I’ve never been so sure in my whole life. She’s nothing like the rest of them.” Marcus stood, walking over to his friend. Placing his hands on Adrian’s shoulders Marcus made eye contact. “I can’t describe the feeling that she gives me, but I can’t ever let this one go.”
“If she’s really your one, then you won’t have to worry about that.” Adrian told him, placing his own hands on Marcus’s broad shoulders. “Now, tell me who this girl is.”
“Not a girl, she’s a woman. She’s smart, so very smart. Beautiful isn’t the right word. She’s stunning. Her whole face lights up when she looks at me.” Pointing at himself. “Me! She gets excited to see me. She has her own career, she lives on her own.” Marcus started ticking off things about the woman who had his heart. “Adrian, she’s so right. She makes everyone I’ve ever dated look like a fool.”
“Marcus, who is this woman!?” Adrian pushed a little harder to get his friend to tell him who this woman was.
“Her hair is soft and wild, I love tangling my fingers in it. Her big doe eyes are mesmerizing, I could stare into them for hours. She likes talking with me, not at me or through me, but actually likes to talk to me. She genuinely listens to me and is honest about everything.” Marcus went on. Adrian was getting irritated. He was happy for his friend but he needed the guy to tell him a name so he could have his cousin run a background check on her. “Don’t get me started on her lips and how her body feels like it was made to fit against mine. I lose myself in her. Before she leaves, she kisses me on the forehead then runs her fingers through my hair and I can’t help but get butterflies. The woman gives me butterflies when she touches me.” He took his seat back on the couch. “She doesn’t shy away from my touch either.” He looked down at his large hands. “My size has always been an issue for all of the women I’ve ever dated. Not with her, she embraces it. She’s so tiny compared to me, but she’s just right for me.”
“Great, now tell me her name.” Adrian demanded. Marcus smirked.
“You won’t believe me when I tell you.” Marcus said, shaking his head. “She went to school with us. She’s probably the last person anyone would ever expect to end up with me.”
“Well tell me so I can believe it.” Adrian said, trying to not sound annoyed.
“It’s Hermione.” Marcus said in a whispered tone.
“Hermione as in Golden Girl Granger?” Marcus nodded and Adrian almost passed out. “You’re right no one is going to believe this. Pansy is going to lose it over this.”
“Why?” Marcus asked.
“Pansy and Hermione haven’t always seen eye to eye until recently while at work, Pansy found Hermione talking with Draco. Draco reintroduced them to each other and Pansy hasn’t shut up about her since.”
“In a bad way?” Adrian shook his head no.
“She’s been trying to find ways to get Hermione to hang out. Now she has one. Expect Pansy to want to double date a lot now.” Marcus chuckled.
“Hey it could have been worse. They could still hate each other.”
