Work Text:
Harvey Specter was a man of many talents. He could manipulate most anyone to his aid, and when he couldn’t do that, he could psych them out. So, when Mike Ross burst into his hotel suite with a briefcase full of drugs and the police on his tail, he saw someone who could become the next him. Someone who could be better.
There were risks involved; hiring someone to practice law despite the fact that they did not go to law school was highly illegal and damning. But to Harvey, Mike was worth it. He was new, he had a fresh perspective on most things he was presented with. Mike Ross meant risking the life that he had built for himself, but if Harvey was sure about anything, he had a talent for winning.
Despite all of his talents, he was never good at foresight. He left all of that to Donna, preferring to focus on the now. But the now had changed. Harvey hadn’t noticed how much his life had changed since meeting Mike, but as he looked at himself in the mirror, trying to get his tuxedo to fit right, it surged on him.
Before, he was a condescending asshat who had little to no appreciation for life outside of work. Most people would still say he is but those closest to him had noticed that he smiled more often; a smile which came from genuine contentment. It was clear what had changed him, but nobody spoke about it.
Harvey’s love for Mike was unspoken, but it was there.
“You know, Harvey,” Donna said as she approached the man, his boutonnière in hand. “I never thought you would end up here.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
Donna let out a small laugh, pinning the flowers in place. “I never thought that you would allow yourself to be happy. Getting married… The Harvey I met all those years ago, marriage seemed like a foreign concept.”
Harvey shook his head slightly, giving himself another once over in the mirror. “Not the fact that I am marrying a man.”
“That too, yeah…” she laughed before walking towards the door. “You ready for this, it’s not too late to back out.”
Harvey shook his head once more, before following her out. Of all of the things he has ever doubted in his life, marrying Mike wasn’t one of them. He couldn’t fathom a life without the man in it anymore. Harvey had many talents: showing his feelings were not one of them.
Harvey’s love for Mike was unspoken but not even a fool could have missed it.
