“It’s not fair!” Twelve year old Lori screamed as she slammed the front door.
Sara groaned from her spot on the couch all cuddled into Ava. “Is it my turn or yours to get up?”
“Lori, come here sweetie, what’s going on?” Ava called out and soon the moody pre teen was in the doorway.
“It’s not fair!”
“What’s not fair?”
“Mia thinks just because she’s older that she’s a better archer than I am. So we had a competition.”
“And you lost.” Sara finished.
“It’s not fair she has longer arms plus Auntie Nys taught her tricks.”
“I’m sure Nyssa’s help didn’t make any difference, she taught your mama and she’s not great by any means.” Ava tried to make it better. “Besides I’m sure you’re better than Mia at other things.”
“Yeah, like if Mia got shot in the head, she’d stay dead, you would just get knocked down a bit for a few seconds.” Sara was clearly helpful. “Remember when you both jumped off the shed and for whatever reason you tied those concrete blocks to your feet when you jumped? Mia broke an arm and a leg. You, you just dented the ground.”
“So?”
“So you are better at falling off a roof that’s a skill.”
“So my greatest skill is something I have no control over and only have because Mama had a talent for getting killed? Great.” Lori rolled her eyes before stomping off.
“You’re also really good at reading! That’s important!” Ava called after.
“I’ll call Nys tomorrow if she’s not busy with the Legends and see if can give her some pointers.”
