Bad Batch: Wrecker's Request

Summary:

Wrecker and Omega have a conversation about the smaller clone's experience with gender.

A loose sequel to Bad Batch: Crosswired

Work Text:

Omega sat, as she so often did, propped against Gonky as she worked. Tech had helped her get AZI-3 back to a functional state, and the bug-eyed little droid was now assisting her as she worked on Echo’s new prosthetic hand. He still wanted to keep his SCOMP link, as over the months of having it he’d come to rely on it like another sense, so whatever Omega built had to fit over the existing prosthetics. It was a fun project, and it kept her mind occupied while they flew between jobs.

After Kamino and Chandrila, Cid had the Batch running much smaller jobs. Escorting merchant ships, ferrying passengers, and narrowly avoiding Imperial sweeps were their main pastimes. Omega enjoyed being out of the thick of battle for a bit, able to learn skills outside of fighting. Tech had even started teaching her about piloting, though he still refused to let her in the pilot’s seat.

Clearly, though, not all of the Batch were thriving outside of a face-to-face fight. Wrecker especially seemed to be getting stir-crazy, pacing around the Havoc Marauder like a caged animal.

“Getting antsy, Wrecker?” Omega asked, Gonky honking beside her to make sure Wrecker had heard.

Wrecker stopped his pacing at the sound of Omega’s voice and dropped down to sit next to his much smaller sister, nearly smashing AZI against the hull of the ship as he did so.

“Yeah,” he replied. “Just not used to having this much time to think, you know?”

Omega nodded. “I do, but don’t worry, I’m sure we’ll have things to blow up in no time.”

Wrecker smiled a bit, but still seemed off-kilter. “So, uh, have you been happy with the medicine you got?”

It had been nearly a month since Omega had finally told her brothers about how she had changed her gender and they had helped her get the medicine she needed to develop as a girl. Honestly, she didn’t think too much about it. She was of course incredibly grateful to her brothers, but she’d been living as a girl for years and hardly ever felt discomfort with her body anymore.

“Yeah, I’ve been real happy with them. Thanks again for helping, Wrecker.” She gave her largest brother a hug as he blushed.

“Hehe, well I’m glad.” Wrecker’s face still didn’t match his words. “Uh, can I ask you something else?”

She lightly punched him in the arm. “Of course you can, any time Wrecker.”

“How, er, how did you know?”

Omega raised an eyebrow. “Know what?”

“Know that you were supposed to be a girl?”

The question caught Omega off guard. She’d explained somewhat to Echo and Hunter, but not to Wrecker or Tech. “I would see the other clones and know that I’d look like them when I got older, and it just felt wrong. There was a woman who would come around the administrative sections of Tipoca now and then, back before the war. Zam Wesell, I think. She was beautiful, and I knew that I wanted to be her when I grew up. It just felt right.”

Wrecker looked incredibly confused. “So it’s a feeling? Like that Twi’lek girl said about flying?”

Omega tried to hide the flush spreading on her face at the mention of Hera. “Yeah, it’s just something you kind of have to try and see if you like it. Nala Se started calling me a girl and started letting me dress more feminine, and I liked it and wanted to keep going.”

The larger clone nodded. “I, uh, I think I wanna try it. Being a woman.”

Pulled back into the moment, Omega broke into a huge smile. “So I have a sister? At least while you’re trying it out?”

Her sister nodded. “Yeah! Yeah I guess you do!”

Omega leapt to her feet. “Do you want me to help you tell the others?”

“Yeah, I’d like that!”

Omega ran toward the cockpit where her brothers sat. “Guys! Guys! You have another sister!”
