I wish it was you here. (But I like you better then)

Summary:

“Where is he?! I need to see him!”

“Oh Izuku…. I’m so sorry.”

Mitsuki knew she was screwed when Inko had called her about her husband coming home. But she never expected to lose her best friend and her godson on the same night.

Or: Izuku was taken by his father when he was young, and was only let out when a raid occurred and Izuku was caught in the crossfire. Izuku went to live with Pro-Hero Eraserhead and never expected the second chance his new family offered him. He also never expected the forgiveness from his old one.

Chapter 1: I should have been there.

Chapter Text

She closed her eyes, pulling her child closer. He yelped with every bang on the door, with every fist that pounded against it.

“Hush, it’s okay baby. It’s okay.” Inko said quietly into his hair.

She retreated further into her home when the door started cracking and splintering. Inko snatched her phone from the table as she rushed past the sitting room and with shaking hands she dialed the first number she thought of.

Those few moments of waiting for Mitsuki to pick up were agonizing.

Hey Inko! Please tell me you aren’t canceling already! We just made the plans-“ Mitsuki answers with a hum.

“Mitsuki. C-call for help?” Inko mutters as the door finally gives way. She closes her own bedroom door with a quiet click.

The line is quiet for a moment, “Is he back? Inko? Hold on…. Damn it!” Her voice is near panic, “Masaru! Call the damned police!

Inko tucks her son away behind the bed before shoving her dresser in front of the closed door. “Inko, honey, you need to get out of there. Where is he?

“Inko, open the door. I’m not going to deal with this again. I want to see my son.” Inko flinches as his voice comes through the door.

“Go away, Hisashi! He’s not going with you!” She yells back at him.

“Mama?” Izuku’s voice whispers.

She quickly quiets him, “Hush baby. It’ll be fine.”

“Inko, I’m not playing around anymore. Open the door.”

I'm on my way. Now get the hell out of there! Damn it!” Inko barely hears her friend's voice.

Inko tosses the phone on the bed, “Izu, talk to Auntie okay? Go in my closet and stay there?”

The little boy snatches the phone and darts towards the closet in the corner of the room. Inko closes the door behind him and locks it.

“Come on!” Another heavy pound on the door, “He’s my son too!”

“He stopped being your son the day you left! Now leave!” Inko sobs.

Izuku sobs to himself quietly, listening to his mother cry while knowing he can’t go help her. The quiet voice from beside him reminds him of the phone. He puts it to his ear, “Auntie?”

Oh Izuku! Thank god! Where are you? Can you tell me?” His Aunt sounds out of breath. Like Kacchan does after blowing things up for a while.

“I'm in Mama’s closet… is dad going to hurt her?”

No honey. You’re both going to be just fine. The police are on their way, and so am I, okay? We’ll make sure you and your mama are okay.

Izuku can’t stop the small scream that escapes his mouth when the door is blown inwards.

“You bitch! You think that could stop me? This could have gone so much better if you would have just given him to me.” Hisashi growls.

There’s a few thuds before Inko’s shout comes, “Izuku, run! Get out of the house!”

Izuku snatches the phone and darts from the room, sparing his mom a glance. She stands over Hisashi with a bat, the latter currently pushing himself up off the ground. Blood is dripping all over her new carpet. Hisashi is wiping the blood from his head.

Izuku sobs and stumbles down the hall. The moment he hears the thudding footsteps following him and the cries of his mother, he knows he can’t run fast enough. He screeches when Hisashi grabs his hair and pulls him back. Hard. His aunt is screaming for him now from the other end of the phone.

Izuku closes his eyes and flinches away from the heat that comes from his fathers mouth. “Stay the fuck back unless you want him to burn alive.”

Inko freezes, her arm clutched to her chest. Her poor boy… “Please Hisashi. Don’t do this.”

Fire is already spreading across the walls, the carpet turning black with ash. He snarls at her, his eyes glowing with challenge. “He’s quirkless. He means nothing. At least with me he might be helpful with some… experiments.”

No! No, he’s our- your son! You c-can’t do that to him! You can’t!” Inko sobs, lunging for her child. Her poor, poor child. “He’s a baby! He’s still so young, Hisashi!”

Hisashi drags Izuku out of reach, releasing more flames. Inko screams. “I can, and I will. Goodbye Inko.”

More fire. More heat. It’s too bright. Izuku closes his eyes and sobs as Hisashi drags him away. “Mama!” No answer. “Mama! No! Let me go!”

Mitsuki covers her mouth as she sobs. The phone is still pressed against her ear as she sprints down the streets. She hears both Izuku’s and Inko’s screams. Each one sends an arrow through Mitsuki’s chest. I can’t run fast enough…

Already she can see the smoke in the sky. By that point she knows she’s probably too late.

She rounds the corner to her friend's apartment, the police already blocking it off and evacuating the burning building. Flames have devoured half of the building, red and orange flames licking the walls and hissing as they grow. She ducks under the tape and runs closer, closer to her family, only to be stopped by an officer.

“I’m sorry Ma’am but it’s closed off for safety reasons.” He mutters gruffly. “I’m afraid you need to stay back. If you’ve left something in there you can get it later-“

“You don’t understand! My friend, she lives here! I need to make sure she’s okay! I need to find my godson!” She falls to her knees with a sob. “Where is he? I need to find him! Please…”

“Ma’am what apartment did they reside in? We could try to locate them for you.”

“248C. Her husband… Dragon he was here. He found them! I need to find them! I promised!”

With the name Dragon falling from her mouth, the officers around her froze for a moment before growing even more frantic. They evacuate quicker and start a search.

The officer in front of her looks down at his feet, “Ma’am, 248C is where the fire started. There’s no way anyone survived that. The entire floor is in flames. I’m sorry.”

Her thoughts go quiet as she watches the dancing flames. Her anger and grief striking through her heart.

“Mitsuki! Where are they?” Her husband comes running behind her.

She just sobs into his shoulder, “They’re g-gone. Oh my god… they’re gone. He took Izuku… oh god. We were supposed to protect him. Oh my god.”

Masaru hugs her tighter, both of them sitting in the middle of the street just staring at the flames growing.

It was two days before Inko was announced dead.

Two days it took them to finish their search through the building.

Two days that Izuku has been missing, but not reported as so.

The moment they finished their search Mitsuki went to the police station to file a missing persons report. But they kicked her out without a report being filed. Apparently a quirkless child doesn’t make the cut. Apparently it’s too much money and resources to be out toward a quirkless individual.

A week later was the funeral. Only for Inko. Mitsuki and Masaru refused to believe their godson was dead. Because he was a child. A child who deserved so much better.

Katsuki was told a few days after the fire. The boy was more confused than anything. Confused on why he would never see his Auntie again. Confused as to why Izuku wasn’t going to be in school anymore.

He understood a few years later.

He understood once villains attacked more and so many more people died. He understood when one of his friends was killed.

He still talked about Izuku all the time. Always remembered his best friend.

The family never stopped looking. They put out posters, they raised money. They did everything they could to find their godson. With no luck. Even Katsuki did his part by keeping up with Dragon online.

But Dragon wasn’t brought up in the news until years and years later. Not until it was announced he evaded arrest with his allies from multiple fronts. The pro’s are very upset by this, which is why it’s being broadcasted all over.

A video was put out a few hours later by an anonymous source. In the video you can clearly see Dragon and a few others. But a handful of the villains were unrecognizable or just not in the system.

Including his small accomplice that police still hadn’t gotten a match on.

Mitsuki had sobbed when she saw the green hair and the dancing emerald eyes staring at the camera before simply turning away without another action.

That was the only hope the Bakugou’s had for years. A glimpse of the lost boy, their alive godson.
