The Love We Build

Summary:

Dates hold important value in our lives. There are dates that you can’t really remember what happened, only what month they took. of course, there are specific ones that you never forget. Follow the story about how Steve and Eddie came to be by jumping through time portals that all tie in together at the end.

Notes:

I just want to say that we honestly deserved better but I still have an urge to write not with the character personalities we were given. These characters have taken new life.

Chapter 1: March 29 1986: Realizations

Summary:

Steve watches Eddie play on top of that trailer and effectively loses it.

Chapter Text

March 1986

Steve felt like he was going to be sick. It was horrifying watching Eddie on top of that damn trailer, playing his guitar while a bunch of demo-bats circled him. Steve could hear Dustin pleading for Eddie to come down but Eddie just kept on fucking playing.

Steve was unfortunately being restrained by Jonathan and Argyle because the first moment Steve saw Eddie, he wanted to run up there, grab Eddie and pull him to safety.

Nancy had yelled for them to hold Steve back. There was a fight with Steve kicking and screaming but he was too weak to even get out their hold.

There was tears streaming down his face. All Robin could offer for comfort was only a few simple words.

“I’m sorry, Steve.You know… the plan.”

Fuck the plan, Eddie was supposed to be a distraction not just bat food. Steve didn’t know why it terrified him to see Eddie like this, a few seconds from being torn limb from limb.

All he knew was the second that Eddie pinned Steve against the wall, there was something there. Steve thought it was a curiosity but it molded to something else. When Eddie was trying to tell him some crap about getting back with Nancy, all Steve could focus on was how beautiful Eddie freaking Munson was.

That had shocked him and he was planning on talking to Robin about it if they ever got out of this hell hole.

Steve tried again to tug himself out of their grasp.

“Please.” One word he could only get out of his mouth but all the other older teens looked at him with pity. They wouldn’t let him go.

At the moment, the bats decided to strike Eddie. Steve screamed for him to run but all Eddie did was look him straight in the eyes and fucking smile.

Steve shut his eyes, unable to look at the carnage that was about to take place but the blow never came. one by one the bats fell from the sky. the whole upside down seemed to shake for a moment until it stopped with a large groan.

There was a a moment of silence. Everybody was looking at each other as if somebody broke it then the peace would all come crashing down.

After five minutes, Dustin spoke.

“She did it.”

There was exclamations of joy, Nancy and Robin were hugging, Dustin came over to clap everybody’s hand but Steve only had eyes for Eddie who had jumped off the trailer and was walking towards them. There was a smile so full of relief on the metalhead’s face.

Steve ran straight to Eddie effectively pulling him into a hug that caught the smaller man off guard.

“Harrington?”

Steve buried his face in Eddie’s neck. His arms wrapped around Eddie’s waist, trying to convey how frighten he was.

Eddie could feel Steve crying, he rubbed at Steve’s back trying to calm him.

“Hey, I’m okay.. I’m right here.”

Steve threw his head back, tears running down his face.

“Don’t ever fucking do that to me again Munson!”

Eddie was shocked at Steve’s outburst but then a wave of understanding brought him back to reality. He grabbed Steve’s neck to pull their foreheads together.

“Okay, never again, I promise.”
