Work Text:
Your eyes narrowed, sighing on whether you should take a sip from the glass of wine sitting on the table in front of you or take a shower instead while waiting for the arrival of your lover. You peered at the window beside you, the rain poured for almost 30 minutes, the glass was misty, and it almost blurred the whole city view from your sight. Waiting for Nanami’s arrival was your daily routine. Preparing him dinner, brewing him a cup of coffee though you knew he would end up drinking scotch right from the bottle and you’d be the one who drinks the coffee. But everything about him was perfect, too perfect. The way he would pamper you every day, the way he would make time for you, the way his eyes glowed whenever you were there, it could never fail to light up your day.
The rain drizzled a lot more than a few minutes ago, you were worried since he took the last train tonight, and yes…. He forgot to bring the umbrella. You wouldn’t want to see him drenched by the rain. Maybe picking him up and accompanying him as he walked home wouldn’t be so bad since the apartment isn’t so far from the train station.
You stood up from your seat before you walked over to grab your coat and your bag that was hanging near the door, also the umbrella since it was big enough to cover the two of you.
1.10 AM
MESSAGE FROM KENTO
“Arriving at the station in 15 minutes, love. Do you need anything?”
The notification from your phone rang before you got to open the door, “Oh shit.” You immediately put back your phone inside your pocket, you weren’t guessing that he would arrive earlier than you think. Did he even realize that it was raining outside? You thought. He was probably caught up in the new book he bought with you two days ago. You were surprised that he read almost half of the book in just a few hours. You could never keep up with his pace whenever the two of you tried to challenge each other on who's the fastest book reader. He would always win.
It took 10 minutes to walk from the apartment, but at least you could feel a little relieved. The walk to the station was cold and breezy, the rain was still pouring, but the sound of the city traffic accompanied you. As soon as you entered the gate, the train was still nowhere to be seen. You realized that the bakery Nanami would go to was still open, it was seen that they were preparing for closing but you managed to run before they did.
“I’m so sorry! But are you still accepting customers? I realized that the bread I wanted still sits on the counter….” You rushed to the cashier, “Oh! Of course! Do you want me to warm it up for you?” The woman asked kindly, you gave her a nod in return. “You’re closing at 2 AM? I didn’t know a bakery would still be open this late….” You questioned, “There are a lot of busy people here, miss…. They could be hungry, so our boss considered that we would close at 2 AM.” She responded whilst warming the bread inside the microwave. The scent of it freshens the whole store, no wonder Nanami loves it.
“Thank you very much, have a great night!” You smiled before leaving the bakery, the train was set to arrive in 2 minutes, so you waited near the spot where he would arrive.
Not long after, the train appeared in sight and you stood from where you sat. At first, you couldn’t spot his figure until he finally walked out of the train. You quickly tried to catch his gaze so he could see you. Each and every time you see him, your smile grows brighter and the warmth always creeps up on your stomach. “Kento.” His name escapes your mouth as he stands near you, he turns his head to you as soon as he realizes that it was your voice calling out his name softly. He looked tired but you could admit that he still looked attractive as ever, his hand reaching out to yours as he walked beside you.
“What are you doing here?” He asked with a slightly worried tone, “It’s raining and I thought it’d be nice if I could pick you up here so we could walk back together. And you forgot to bring your umbrella again, Kento. I always remind you to bring it but you seem to forget, huh?” You pat his back, signaling him to not worry about it. “Oh, and here…. I suppose I could give you something on the way.” You lift the paper bag to lend him the bread you bought. “You don’t have to do this, love.” He softly spoke, “Take it. It’s my chance to spoil you.” You chuckled.
He snaked his arms around your waist to keep you close, he was happy that he could finally be with you again. “See? It’s still raining outside. Lucky you, I brought this big umbrella we bought at Okinawa last month. You should be grateful.” He smiled at your words, you were always so considerate of him and he was afraid he couldn’t do the same to you. He’s not exactly the type to show much affection, but all he wanted you to know was that he truly loves you. “I’m grateful for you.” Nanami spoke, you lifted an eyebrow at his words, “I mean the umbrella.” You laughed as you joked around, “You’re making me sound cheesy, huh?” He smiled, leaning closer to kiss the top of your forehead.
“But I am grateful for you. I’m sorry if I couldn’t-”
“Shut up, Kento. You always say that you’re sorry…. You’ve done a lot for me and now it’s my turn to do something for you. You cook for me, you sleep after me no matter how sleepy you are, you always have time for me when I need you, you said I’m pretty even after I woke up in the morning?! You have done so much and I love you so much. I know you don’t say much through words, so let me do it, okay?” You exclaimed, smiling at him. He was pretty stunned by your words. Without thinking twice, Nanami hugged you. “I love you.”
After he pulled away, a smile plastered on your face once again. “Let’s go.” You opened the umbrella and walked beside him. “How was work?” You asked, “Like usual. Nothing special.” His tone was a bit unfathomable, you couldn’t understand what he felt. “But it doesn’t matter,” He slowly commenced to hold your waist closer and tighter, “At least I’m here with you now.”
You grinned at the sight of him looking down at you, “Shit, I’m so lucky to have you.” You started to move closer and hugged him tightly, almost forgetting about the umbrella you held. “Babe, the umbrella…” Nanami laughed, trying to steady your hand from dropping the umbrella. The rain wasn’t pouring as heavy as it was but it’s possible to leave the two of you drenched if anything goes wrong. “Oh. Sorry.” You squint your eyes with a sheepish grin.
The two of you strolled the city whilst holding each other close and for you, it was a perfect night. When the both of you arrived at the apartment, you closed the umbrella before walking through the door. “I need to take a shower first, okay? Care to join?” Nanami spoke as he removed his coat. “Hmm, I would love to but I already did and I don’t believe I could take another splash of water… Wrong timing, mister.” You walked closer to him so you could remove his tie, “What a shame for me…. I’d be eager if you’d say yes.” He kissed your cheek before going to the bathroom.
You decided to brew him a cup of coffee like usual, which you are 90% sure he would not drink. But you just gotta stick to the routine. The sound of rain and the running water from the bathroom made you feel sleepy. You were about to wait for Nanami to finish showering so you could just immediately sleep right in the bedroom with him, but as soon as you sat back down on the couch, you couldn’t help but shut your eyes.
You heard the bathroom door creaking, you suppose that he had already finished showering, but your energy was drained since you didn’t get much sleep these past few days.
“Darling?” Nanami noticed that he couldn’t see your figure as soon as he walked out of the bathroom, “Where—” His words stopped when he saw you laying down on the couch, he could see the coffee you brewed on top of the wooden table. He smiled at the sight of you. Everything about you was beautiful, he swore he couldn’t believe his own eyes. Nanami crouched in front of you to see your face clearly, “Beautiful.” He mumbled to himself as he ran his fingers through your hair. Nanami decided to move you in a bridal carry so you could sleep peacefully in the bedroom. You were too sleepy to say something nor make a move.
All that you remembered was that he tucked you into the bed and kissed you goodnight, then proceeded to walk out of the bedroom.
The next morning, you woke up to see that he was not sleeping by your side. “Kento?” You slowly sat on the edge of your bed whilst analyzing the room. You decided to walk out of the bedroom, your heart was relieved when you saw him falling asleep on the couch with his new book in his hands that was about to fall off. Nanami looked peacefully asleep, and he looked perfect. You found yourself smiling at the sight of him. You strolled towards his way and kneeled to see his face clearly. “Beautiful.” You sighed, running your fingers through his messy golden hair.
You looked over to the wooden table next to you and recognized something.
He drank the coffee you brewed last night.
