Eddie punches him then. It’s a light tap of his knuckles, pressed into Steve’s chest. Gentle, playful, and it matches Eddie’s eyes. “I win.”
Steve feels something shift inside of him. Before he can think, he grabs Eddie’s wrist, keeping him there, pressed into Steve’s old gym shirt. He doesn’t know why he does it, but he categorizes the feel of Eddie’s skin, warm from the sun, smooth from the shower yesterday. The way his knuckles twitch where they touch Steve.
Eddie’s eyes widen. He doesn’t look scared, just surprised, which is just as bad, Steve thinks. He wants Eddie to give him a smile, that self-sure cocky one that he gives when he feels in control of a situation. Because Steve definitely isn’t in control of this situation, so that has to be Eddie’s role. Right? “Uh, Steve?”
Steve lets go. He grabs his plate and his utensils, and he heads for the ladder. “We should uh- Should get going. If we want to make New York by tonight.”
