Work Text:
From within the void, Yoichi watched his brother speak to his grave.
Hisashi took a deep breath, staring at the grave in front of him. “Hey, Yoichi. Sorry I haven’t come around lately.”
“ It’s okay, ‘Sashi, I see you enough with you fighting Ninth right now,” Yoichi said to the emptiness of the void. The others all respected his space and left him alone whenever he was talking to ‘Sashi. The graveyard where his body was buried was the only thing he could see besides the space around Ninth.
The wind whistled through the trees. No one came to this graveyard anymore, everyone inside had been dead for hundreds of years. Hisashi sat down in the grass in front of the gravestone, not caring that his suit got soaked and muddy from the fresh dew.
“I think you’d be amused to know that your successors are still trying to kill me, year after year. They took my son, Yoichi. He’s a hero now, your ninth successor. My wife is close to divorcing me for being gone all these years and Tomura is unruly and unfit for my quirk. I knew I should have let my son keep his own quirk and raised him instead. He would have done much better, I know it.”
“ So Ninth’s your son? It makes sense, I suppose. He acts a lot like the both of us at times. Not to mention his obscure knowledge of twenty-first-century memes. Also not surprised that you took his quirk.” Even after all these years, even after ‘Sashi apologizing time after time, Yoichi didn’t think any better of his brother. He couldn’t, not really. Even if ‘Sashi said he changed, he still pulled the same stuff and still did the same crimes.
“I don’t know how I could bear to fight him, he’s my son. I couldn’t hurt him. I never wanted to hurt you. I wanted to keep you safe, people were targeting us, the world was too dangerous.”
“You keep saying that, ‘Sashi but you don’t ever really mean it do you?”
A cold breeze brushed over his shoulder. “Are you even here? Are you listening to me or did you already pass wherever we go next?”
“I’m here. I’m always listening when you speak here, even if I don’t agree with or believe what you have to say.”
“I’m close, though. A few more weeks. If you are really here, I might be able to bring you back soon. It took me so many years of waiting, but I think I’ve found the right quirk. I just need you here with me.”
“I don’t want to come back. I’m content here. I have my family and friends, ones who actually respect me, and I like helping each successor. Don’t take me from my peace, ‘Sashi.” Even if it was lonely sometimes, the void was his home now. It was a place for him to stay until the day his last successor died and One for All disappeared.
