Prologue - An ExPSIting Beginning!
Alright, let’s start this with a simple question.
If you had the power to read a person’s memories, what would you do with it?
Yes, that’s right. The power to read a person’s memories starting from birth to the present date.
Maybe you would be thinking, “I can read my partner’s memories and find out who they have dated in the past without having to confront him!”
Or perhaps, “I could read my friend’s memories and find out if they were lying about their friendship with that one person I hate! And I don’t even have to confront them and result in an awkward situation!”
Or maybe even, “I can read the memories of the people in charge of the lottery! But isn’t it like telepathy?”
Sure, that’s what you could do. And no, it’s not like telepathy. How is reading the past and reading a person’s current thoughts the same? Don’t be ridiculous.
Now, let’s say you do have this ability… what if you also had the ability to wipe a person’s memory or alter it to your will? As much as you want to, even. No limits set, you can even alter their entire life’s memories if you wish.
Sounds good, doesn’t it?
“Then I can change my partner’s memories about their old dates! Or make them never exist in the first place!”
“I can manipulate my friend’s memory so that they remember having a bad falling out with the person I hate and never speak to them again!”
“Then I can make my lottery number the winning number by altering their memory!”
Yeah, that sure sounds nice, doesn’t it? You could gaslight your partner and friend, and you could strike the winning lottery number. Maybe even find out if Santa is real, or find out what that suspicious “You’ll know when you’re older” that your parents told you really meant when you ask how babies are made.
It’s truly a convenient and overpowered ability.
Alright, moving on. What about super-hearing?
“I can listen in to my partner’s conversations with the person they’re cheating on me with!”
“I can hear my friend talking shit about me behind my back!”
“I can listen for the potential winning lottery numbers!”
Um… alright. Then healing and resurrection? The ability to heal deep wounds that are mortal to humans, to cure stuff like cancer and Alzheimer’s with the click of a finger? And the power to even bring people back to life.
Imagine everything you could do with those powers. It would be revolutionary for modern science and medicine.
“Then I could bring my partner back from the dead once I kill them for cheating on me with their ex!”
“I can heal my friend’s wounds after I punch them in the face for betraying me!”
“I can help some injured rich guy and get his money as thanks for saving his life!”
Ugh, all of you are cruel people. But that’s just how humans are.
Getting back on topic, what if I told you that those powers have an extremely powerful drawback? A drawback that is also detrimental to you, and could literally change your entire life?
“Nothing will beat taking revenge on my partner!”
“At least I can teach my friend a lesson on lying!”
“Well, money can solve any problem!”
Yes, but these repercussions are very detrimental, even if you won’t notice it. No actions are without its consequences. No matter how unnoticeable. It’s like eating ice cream. You have that moment of euphoria from the sweetness, but you will gain a little more calories that could ruin your diet- Hmm? Weight is nothing to you? Well… exercise is also a thing humans hate, right? You'll work it off without complaint? Yeah, right. Good luck with that.
But nevermind all that. There’s still drawbacks, alright? Like how Superman can't see through lead, and how Cyclops can't control his laser eyes, and Iron Man's dependency on the reactor in his chest. Stuff like that.
Anyway, take my word for it. You wouldn’t want these powers. Especially if you knew how much you will suffer from it.
By the way, I actually have more powers that I wanna ask about. But since this is a prologue, I won’t be dragging this out for too long, so find out later, alright?
