Work Text:

Mom and Dad were dead.

Chad sat in his base, still in full costume, and tried to process it all.

He had watched their confrontation with Alex. It hadn’t been pretty.

Chad had seen Alex and his parents fight more than once, and he always stayed out of it— those fights seemed have more personal motivation in them than Alex’s usual fare, and Chad had no desire to be anywhere near an angry Alex if he didn’t have to be.

Between rounds of powered and hand-to-hand fighting, Chad could hear them arguing about Morgan. It featured all the hallmarks of his own arguments with Alex, but there was more bite behind the villain’s words here— when Chad fought with Alex he felt like he was being condescended to. Here, Alex had sounded pissed.

It was when they referred to Morgan as a sidekick that they both died.

Chad tried not to puke as he remembered watching Alex massacre his own parents. A part of him had been horrified by the act, but a smaller, more vindictive part of him was almost satisfied.

Chad had realized, recently, that his parents had no respect for Morgan, held no love for them as their child. It had been a hard pill to swallow, and it made him question whether his parents loved him because he was their eldest son, or because he was an A Ranked Hero.

Now Chad felt. . . Confused. Conflicted. Dirty, even. Was he complicit in Alex’s murder of his own parents?

Chad shook his head and downed his drink. He couldn’t think of this right now. He had a funeral to plan and a brave face to put on.
