SCP-4915 "Enderwalking"

Summary:

Description: SCP-4915, commonly referred to as the Enderwalk, is an anomalous state of consciousness akin to hypnosis in which the affected individual (who from this point forward will be referred to as an SCP-4915-X, where X is their identification number at Site-██) displays a higher eagerness to follow orders, an inability to ███████, brain functioning similar to REM sleep, severe aquagenic urticaria, and ███████ ███. The cause of the state is currently unknown, however it appears to be linked to a genetic predisposition, an irregular sleep schedule, and pre-existing anxiety disorders. It can be triggered in an instance of SCP-4915-X by any number of factors, ranging from a symbol to a specific chord progression or melody. It is currently unknown if there is a universal infohazard to instances of SCP-4915-X that triggers the Enderwalking state.

Notes:

this is another old dsmp thing that's been gathering dust. im actually really really proud of it! it was going to go a lot more in-depth, but i ran out of energy for it. this is heavily based on ranboo's old dream smp lore, obviously. enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

THIS DOCUMENT IS NOT TO BE SHARED OUTSIDE OF THE SITE-██ ANTIMEMETIC STUDIES DIVISION.

Item #: SCP-4915

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Any individual thought to be under the effect of SCP-4915 is to be asked the standard questionnaire listed in Document 4915-A. If their answers line up with the expected responses, they are to be escorted to the nearest humanoid containment cell for observation and debriefing post-awakening. Post-awakening, or if the individual does not awake after seven days, they are to be escorted to Site-██ for a six month hold. If an individual does not experience further effects during the hold, they are to be prescribed a six month course of a Class C nestic and may return to previous duties. Individuals who experience the effects again naturally during their hold will have three months added onto their hold post-awakening; if they experience the effects more than six times during a six month period, regardless of length, they are to be moved to permanent residence at the site.

It is currently unknown if there is a universal infohazard to instances of SCP-4915-X that triggers the Enderwalking state.

It is currently believed that SCP-4915 is an antimemetic phenomenon. SCP-4915-Xs report no recollection of the time they were Enderwalking, instead insisting that they had “blacked out.” On “awakening,” the SCP-4915-X will believe an average time of eight to twelve hours have passed, even if the time between entering the state and arousing from it is upwards of eight weeks. When asked if they can recall their actions, they attempt to speak, only to be unable to say more than one or two syllables.

Additional notes: SCP-4915 was discovered by Dr. Ranboo B. Loved on January 6, 2021, while researching the effects of hypnosis on cognitohazards and infohazards. Test subject D-1126, a seventeen year old male, was put under hypnosis and then shown a cognitohazard. Dr. Beloved observed a strange pattern of behavior following testing, and requested D-1126 be observed for twenty-four hours. Observation log can be found under Unknown Phenomenon Observation Log 01/06/2021. So far, all instances of SCP-4915-X have been in controlled, lab environments.

Note from Dr. Loved regarding research:

A lot is still unknown regarding the full extent of SCP-4915 and instances of SCP-4915-X. Any and all input is greatly appreciated, however any concerns about ethics should be brought up with the Ethics Committee and other higher ups, not me. If I get one more email about ethics I am going to ██████ ██ ███████ ████ ██ ████████████ ████ ████████████ █████ █████████████.

Correspondence between Director Watson and Director ██████ regarding SCP-4915

From: Director Phillip Watson

To: Director ██████

Subject: SCP-4915 as treatment for PTSD in traumatized MTF agents

Director ██████,

One of our researchers, Ranboo B. Loved, has discovered and is cataloging an interesting amnestic phenomenon, and I’ve attached his research into it thus far to this email. It appears capable of allowing us to better ease some of the suffering in severely traumatized MTF agents if used in the context of therapy, and so far Dr. Loved has found success in aiding several D-Class with this method. I am requesting on his behalf that we have permission to test this method on retired and willing MTF agents.

Regards,

Director Phillip Watson

Attachment: SCP-4915 testing logs

From: Director ██████

To: Director Phillip Watson

Subject: Re: SCP-4915 as treatment for PTSD in traumatized MTF agents

Director Watson,

I am aware of the research your team has been doing into this phenomenon, however as we still do not fully understand the effects of it I will be declining your request for now. We do not yet know how repeated “states”, as you call them, happen, and if we were to implement this therapy for MTF agents there could be disastrous consequences. Feel free to reach back out when more testing has been conducted regarding unintended repeats and if they are avoidable.

Sincerely,

Director ██████

Unknown Phenomenon Observation Log 01/06/2021

Date: January 6, 2021

Researcher: Dr. Ranboo B. Loved

Subject: D-1126

Note: Following an experiment conducted by researcher Dr. Ranboo B. Loved into the possible neutralization of cognitohazards via the subject’s hypnosis, he observed simultaneously stroke-like and sleepwalking behaviors in D-1126 and requested the subject be put under a 24 hour watch in the on-site infirmary. The following is a video recording of the subject while under observation.

[BEGIN VIDEO]

0:05:24 - After being moved to a solitary room, subject began speaking to himself. When asked who he was speaking to, he appeared alarmed and immediately ceased.

0:06:02 - Subject resumes speaking to himself.

0:10:37 - Subject appears to be in great distress and starts pacing the room.

0:12:13 - Subject begins crying, and his tears appear to be steaming.

0:14:55 - Subject passes out, hitting the floor. He appears uninjured by this.

[Sped up footage of subject sleeping.]

3:04:36 - Subject rises from the floor and approaches the room’s door. After trying the door several times, he violently bangs on it for three minutes until a doctor orders him to stop over the speaker. Subject, on the order, immediately returns to his bed. For the next fifteen minutes, the subject does nothing besides blankly stare at the wall.

3:22:00 - Over the speaker, a doctor informs the subject he will be receiving a meal. A nurse enters with a standard meal and places it on the bedside tray. Subject does not acknowledge their entry nor exit and ignores the meal.

3:31:21 - The subject is told over the speaker that he may eat if he wishes to, on which he moves to eat. After finishing, he resumes staring at the wall.

3:46:20 - Subject begins to ███ ██ ███████ ███.

[The next five hours of footage is severely corrupted.]

9:12:41 - Subject is standing in the middle of the room and appears disoriented, looking around himself. He looks into the camera and asks where he is and for the whereabouts of Dr. Loved. A doctor informs the subject over the speaker that he is in an observation room, and that Dr. Loved is likely asleep due to the time of night. Subject is told that he may speak with Dr. Loved in the morning and is encouraged to sleep. Subject appears confused by the statement, but returns to the bed and appears to sleep.

Debriefing with D-1126

Date: January 7, 2021

Interviewer: Dr. Ranboo B. Loved

Interviewee: D-1126

Subject: D-1126’s behavior on 01/06/2021

Notes: The following is a transcript of a conversation between Dr. Loved and D-1126 after the subject experienced a potentially anomalous state of consciousness.

Content of this interview may be outdated or inaccurate.

[BEGIN TRANSCRIPT]

Dr. Loved: Let’s start this off simple. Do you remember what happened prior to your… incident?

D-1126: Um… w-we were in this—this room. This one, we’re in now. You showed me [DATA EXPUNGED] and gave me some instructions. I felt really sleepy, and I’m pretty sure I fell asleep.

Dr: Loved: Okay. Let’s assume you fell asleep. Do you remember your dreams?

D-1126: N-No sir.

Dr: Loved: (Audibly confused) Nothing at all?

D-1126: No.

Dr. Loved: Alright. Do you ever remember learning about ███ ██ ███████ ███?

D-1126: (Visibly distressed) What? No, no that’s—that’s horrible!

Dr. Loved: Thank you, that will be all.

[END TRANSCRIPT]

Notes:

thanks for reading! as i mentioned at the start, this was supposed to go a lot more in-depth into our wonderful Doctor Loved's experiments, but i ran out of energy. i hope you still found this interesting :D

i was originally going to write a dsmp scp au, but recently i've thought about picking up the idea as a hermitcraft au instead? thoughts? anyway, leave a comment if u feel so inclined, and have a good day/night <3
