Our New Story has Started

Summary:

Dokja prepared for his big day with the help from Sangah and Sooyoung: they still had some time left until they had to walk him up the path and through the rose garden which led to a small clearing. He smiled with a blush, admiring Joonghyuk who stood underneath the archway decorated with flowers of every colour.
[It was finally time.]

Work Text:

“Are you ready, Dokja?”

“No..?” Kim Dokja earned a slap around his shoulders and he yelped out in pain. “What did you do that for!?” He was currently waiting in the dressing room alongside Han Sooyoung and Yoo Sangah, making final adjustments to his attire.

“Both of you were preparing for this day so how come you are so nervous?!”

“Anyone would be nervous when it’s their big day!”

“Well yeah, but you both prepared for so long!” Sooyoung and Dokja bickered like children, only quieting down when Sangah gave them her famous ‘innocent’ smile.

“Hmm? Why are you two not talking anymore?” Sooyoung avoided eye contact and murmured faintly,

“Because once you’re angry, you get way too scary…”

“Sooyoung, what was that?”

“Nothing, nothing! Let’s get Dokja ready first! Haha… ha..” Dokja chuckled at Sooyoung’s reaction. He was grateful Sangah and Sooyoung both agreed to help him to get ready; they had managed to finish with an hour left and so, Dokja browsed on his phone, letting the two women notify their friends about their progress. He went straight to his gallery and found the album he kept adding pictures to: the first picture was of Joonghyuk and Biyoo together, having the time of their life baking as they looked at the camera with the brightest of smiles and faces covered with flour; he swiped right and it was a picture of the two men on a date, showcasing the cat ears and wolf ears they wore. He giggled at the memory. The next few were of Dokja sleeping after getting home from work. The man couldn’t bring himself to delete these since Biyoo was in the frame, poking her father’s cheek with a finger. Before he could dive back to the past, Sangah called out to him,

“Dokja, it’s time.”

“Phew, let’s do this.” They both held a hand out for him to hold and he took them. The two escorted him out the room and into a fancy hallway lit up with candles. They made their way down the spiral stairs and through the majestic doors, which opened up to a circular driveway with a fountain celebrating this joyous day. The trio walked and laughed, recalling the fun times they shared and the entertaining stunts they pulled until they reached the rose garden and the entrance to the venue, hidden behind the tall hedges and the pearl-coloured, wooden gates. Sooyoung stepped to one side with Sangah at the other, counting down from three and pushed the gates open, revealing a small clearing with rows of seats lined up perfectly, facing the gorgeously decorated gazebo, and the high number of guests here to watch the ceremony, all dressed in their stunning attires.

“Hyung!” “Ahjussi!” A pair of voices exclaimed beside him when he walked through the gateway: there was Gilyoung in his smart suit and Yoosung in her pretty dress, their eyes sparkling with anticipation. He tried to kneel down (earning another harsh slap from Sooyoung) but settled with the two children hugging him.

“Kids, he hasn’t started yet, wait till the end then you can hug him for as long as you want.” Sangha explained with a soft tone and dragged them with her. Dokja continued down the cobble path, all the eyes fixated on him now - the star of the ceremony. He looked straight ahead and locked eyes with the man motionless at the altar, in awe at the sight in front of him. Dokja took the last step and faced Joonghyuk under the floral arch, woven together with ribbons and lace.

“What’s wrong? Cat got your tongue? Is it because I’m just too beautiful?” Dokja teased with a small smirk. Joonghyuk blinked and breathed out,

“Yes…” His answer got Dokja so flustered that he avoided the man’s eyes for a second and decided to skim through the faces of their friends. Heewon and Hyunsung, who married half a year ago; Jihye who looked like she was about to burst into tears, sitting next to her school friend; Seolhwa and Dokja’s mother, Sookyung, taking care of little Biyoo as she waved her little fists. And hidden at the very back were the people who supported them from the very beginning: SP, hidden under his veil as usual, leisurely waved a hand at them as Sun Wukong nodded in greeting, a small smile visible on his face. Uriel was the most enthusiastic as she was already wiping her tears with a handkerchief, her eyes swollen and lips trembling.

“Is she-”

“She’s okay, don’t worry. But are you not going to focus on me?”

“Shut up, sunfish.”

“I now pronounce Yoo Joonghyuk and Kim Dokja, Husband and Husband. You may seal your marriage with a kiss.” Without any further hesitation, Joonghyuk pulled Dokja in a deep kiss as their friends applauded, cheering and shouting their best wishes. They touched foreheads and laughed merrily, petals thrown in the air danced around them and pure white doves were released. As soon as the newlyweds stepped out of the gazebo, both Gilyoung and Yoosung dashed forward and threw themselves at Dokja, hugging him with delight.

“Congratulations!” They harmonised. Joonghyuk then glanced up and nudged Dokja, nodding towards someone in front. Biyoo was waddling her way towards her fathers, Sookyung lightly holding the girl’s hand and guiding her down the cobble path.

“Thank you for looking after her, mother.” She ruffled Dokja’s hair and gave him a thumbs up. As Joonghyuk picked up their daughter, Seolhwa passed a bouquet of flowers to Dokja and asked,

“Dokja, do you want to throw a bouquet?” At first, he looked at her in puzzlement before understanding what she meant: he turned around, back facing the crowd, and waited for a few seconds, letting the people know what he was about to do. And with one swing, the bouquet flew in an arch and someone unexpected managed to catch it.

“Does this mean…?”

“It’s going to be Sooyoung’s marriage next.”

“Heewon! I heard you!” They exploded with laughter and the day went by quite quickly. Now that they were away from the crowd, Dokja and Joonghyuk found a vintage style swing chair facing the setting sun, the sky in a beautiful hue of orange and purple. The older man laid his head against his husband’s broad shoulder and closed his eyes, twisting the new ring on his finger.

“It’s all okay, Dokja. I belong to you now.” Joonghyuk whispered, lacing their fingers together.

“And I belong to you too, my husband.” They smiled and watched the disappearing sun, the glow of the brightest star fading away to darkness.

As fairy tales would go, this would mark their end, their epilogue to their story. But there was always a new path for them to discover, it wasn’t the end just yet. This was just the beginning.

Congratulations. Yoo Joonghyuk, Kim Dokja.
