    ...Yet, Steve remembers it all somehow, the way the neck veins of his father popped out as he yelled, the way his father’s rough skin felt on his cheek as he delivered the blow, the way his mother cried out as if she didn’t instigate it. Steve remembered the smell of cigarettes and alcohol that filled the house every morning and night, he remembered how heavy his father’s footsteps were on the stairs as he walked drunk-every damn detail in his mind.

    He hated it. Oh how he hated it. He can’t remember what his favorite activity was as a child yet can remember his father’s favorite string of insults.
