Chapter 1: 5/3/15

Chapter Text

I've finally arrived in Gotham City.

It was my freshman year in college when I first heard of the proper discord that this city is capable of. A national news broadcast spread throughout the country about some masked man dressed like a freaking bat jumping across buildings, fleeing from police, and beating the ever-living snot out of criminals. I’m not sure what drew me in, it could have been the whole general chaotic cesspit that Gotham proves to be time and time again. Or it could be due to my odd fascination with the entire existence of the people that create that chaos.

I’m deeply interested to know who they truly are, how they live, what makes them tick; all those sorts. I’ve followed their stories like someone obsessed with the rich and famous, except I lack the desire to be like them nor do I see them as my chosen role models. It's just this strange fixation. Like those people glued to watching true crime stories. Speaking of which, no I do not consider this to be stalking. All I'm doing is observing these people from afar for study purposes. Independent study purposes.

Ok, I do suppose that this would fall under the category of stalking.

Any sensible person would look at my plans and say I'm a full-blown moron. Maybe I am. I'm either completely wasting my time, or I'm looking to get myself killed. Since the end of Hugo Strange's infamous Arkham City debacle and The Joker's well-deserved demise back in January, Gotham has been relatively quiet for such a crime-ridden town.

Despite the sudden drop in the local crime rate, I've got this creeping anxiety in my gut, like something big is brewing. What that is, I'm not sure exactly. It's like that feeling you get before a jack-in-the-box goes off.

I've researched all that took place in Arkham City. From what it seems, all well-known Rogues managed to escape out into Gotham or did so after being reprimanded by police. Exactly where they all are now, no one knows for sure.

There are certainly signs of their presence; most recently a bank was pilfered by a small gang belonging to Two-Face. Only $10,000 was stolen, however. They must have been interrupted and were forced to leave a large chunk of their prize behind.

For such a loud villain, Riddler has ostensibly dropped off the face of the Earth. I'm not too interested in finding out where he's hiding, anyways. He's never sparked my 'fancy,’ I guess. Maybe if he does something more notable in the future, I'll put him on my radar.

Harley Quinn is still relatively active. I assumed she would hold up in some fox hole to allow herself to mourn in private, but I guess everyone grieves in their own way. Quinn's way of mourning is committing arson, murder, mass theft, and numerous other crimes that she favors.

Penguin has gone bankrupt, more or less, and has seemingly gone off the map. No news on Poison Ivy or Catwoman either.

Killer Croc has gone missing, along with Mr. Freeze, Bane, Firefly, and a few others.

There's no point anymore in researching the current whereabouts of Scarecrow. He's been missing since the Arkham Asylum incident with no evidence to suggest he's still alive. Besides, like Riddler, there's not much that he's done to garner my attention, anyways.

Strangely, a new face has come onto the scene. A man clad in Batman-like armor has been spotted prowling around. So far three have been speculated to be victims of this new player, all shot in the back of the head execution-style.

I'll have to keep an eye on this one.
