Work Text:
Sakusa Kiyoomi is…struggling.
Struggling because of his beautiful, confident, skilled mate who is making him want to tear his hair out in frustration.
“No, not that one”
Kiyoomi took a deep breath, “Atsumu, there’s nothing wrong with this bottle.”
Atsumu stared down at the bottle in his hand, frowning deeply with one hand rubbing slow circles on his pregnant stomach. He squeezed the nip before nodding unquestionably, putting the bottle back on the shelf and slowly scanning the shelf for any bottle he had missed.
“Atsumu,” Kiyoomi sighed, complete fed up “we’re been here for nearly two hours, can you please decide so we can leave?”
“No!” Atsumu snapped, sending Kiyoomi a harsh glare, “It has to be perfect.”
Kiyoomi bit his lip to stop any automatic rebuttal, not wanting to start an argument. He looked at Atsumu, observing the tight shoulders and straightened posture, most noticeably however was the way both hands had moved to cradle his stomach. The soft scent trailing from Atsumu turned murky and sharp, making him force a growl down which then turned into a cough.
It had been difficult for Atsumu to come to the decision to not breastfeed, it just wasn’t practical considering the schedule he had drafted (with the help of Iwaizumi) to be able to be back on the court only five months after giving birth just in time to be able to qualify for the Olympics. It was very extensive and Kiyoomi couldn’t stop his wince every time he saw it, it would put the ‘hell week’ on the Olympic team to shame.
It was however what Atsumu wanted, and while Kiyoomi wasn’t happy about it, he had agreed to not intervene unless it caused active harm (plus he had the schedule checked by three different trainers who had agreed while they wouldn’t suggest it, it was acceptable).
Breastfeeding wouldn’t be possible as not only would Atsumu not be around the baby enough, but the extreme exercise would make lactating difficult.
He had struggled for weeks trying to make a decision, having to decide between the Olympics and spending time with their pup.
Kiyoomi had sworn that he would support either choice and he still stands by that. He couldn’t imagine being in Atsumu’s shoes and once again was in aware in the strength of his mate.
He needed to be supportive, he knew his bond to their pup was different to one Atsumu shared, meaning he was ignorant to the burden his mate was facing.
“Love,” he moved forward, cuddling him from behind, keeping his tone soft “could this possibly be about something else?
Atsumu froze, hands paused on Kiyoomi’s where they cradled his stomach, scent turning distressingly quickly.
“No!” Quickly picking up the bottle in front of him that he had rejected 20 minutes ago and throwing it in the trolly full of baby supplies and fluffy blankets Kiyoomi had given up over fighting, Atsumu turned on his heel and marched off (well waddled) ignoring Kiyoomis hands that were reaching out to him .
Ignoring the disapproving looks from other nearby shoppers, he grabbed the trolly and followed the quickly gaining omega.
The ride home was silent, Atsumu refusing to look at Kiyoomi.
Atsumu stormed out of the car and up the stairs, Kiyoomi sighing as he collected the bags.
“Atsumu, I think-“
“No” He cut off as he walked though the front door, Kiyoomi having caught up with him.
“Atsumu,” He huffed, irritated as he dumped the bags on the kitchen counter. Kiyoomi ignored the eyes he could see through the door into the kitchen, Osamu and Rin watching silently.
“NO!” Atsumu screamed, slamming the door to the bedroom shut.
Kiyoomi growled in frustration turning around to open a cupboard door, only to slam it shut. The door bounced back open and he stared in angered-amazement as it dared to be disobedient at this particular moment. Mentally apologising to Osamu who had raved other kitchen cupboards when they first moved in, he reached over to-
“Ok! Lets step away from a bad decision.” Hands firmly grasped his shoulders, slowly pulling him back into a firm chest. Kiyoomi relaxed back into Suna’s chest, taking a deep breath to follow the ones under his back. Never in a million years would he have thought another alphas presence would be comfiting, but after the years off forced cohabitating and bonding over a certain pair of twins, the scent of rich scent of cloves had become a calming force, a stark difference from when they first met.
“I’m just gonna..”Osamu skirted around the alphas practically cuddling in the middle of the floor, his scrunched up nose betraying his distaste at Kiyoomis burnt scent, quickly taking out ice cream from the freezer. (Sunas ice cream he guessed from the grief filled whispered ‘no’ behind him).
Kiyoomi heard the door to their bedroom shut and relaxed knowing his mate was now being comforted.
Two hard slaps to the chest let Kiyoomi know it was time to move, sliding over to the kitchen table to slump over it dejectedly.
He heard the sound of shuffling before a cup of tea was deposited in front of him, right along side Sunas phone.
“Come on” He said, Kiyoomi watching silently as he opened TikTok and swiping to his playlist ‘show to kiyo’ “lets watch some videos.”
The sound of his bedroom door closing caused him to shoot up. Suna grunted as he was forced off the sofa from where he had half his body laying on Kiyoomi. He ignored Sunas annoyed mumbles from the floor and swiftly moved just in time in time to see a tried Osamu heading towards the kitchen with an empty carton, gone after the hours spent in the room.
He stood silently at the door, trying to decipher if he should go in.
“Go,” Kiyoomi didn’t jump having smelt Osamu approach, scent muggy in slight distress. “We talked” Osamu smiled sadly in thought before walking away.
Kiyoomi watched in silence as Osamu lowered himself to the floor, one hand cradling his stomach, throwing Sunas arm over his body which automatically curled around him.
“Atsumu?”
Atsumu looked up slowly from where he had been sat in the middle of his makeshift nest. His face was dry but still blotchy, evidence that at some point he had been crying. It made Kiyomi’s heart ach as it always seemed to do now days, his alpha urges unable to handle his omega experiencing any type of pain.
Kiyoomis anger, more frustration than anything at his inability to help his mate, had long ran dry.
He walked closer to the nest, waiting for permission before entering, “Sweetheart?”
“Alpha”
And just like that kiyoomis mind went blank, not coming back to himself till he had joined Atsumu. Atsumu immediately turning into his arms till they lay curled up in the nest, chest to chest. He rumbled on instinct, one hand curling under Atsumu to play with his hair, the other rubbing slow lines up and down his back.
Atsumu stomach pressed firmly into his own, and the alpha in Kiyoomi settled, knowing both his mate and pup were next to him, not locked in a room as they had been for the past couple of hours. Atsumu, despite being the one to create the distance, clearly mirrored the sentiment, purring softly as he nuzzled into kiyoomis scent gland.
Lemon grass and turmeric merged, making Kiyoomi suddenly remember he hadn’t ate dinner, curry becoming a craving that would rival Atsumu nightly (and daily) ones.
A quite chirp caught his attention, looking down only to meet Atsumu wide eyes, still slightly red in irritation but all he could focus on was the left over shine and long eyelashes that immediately caused him to push down other thoughts.
“Omi,” Atsumu breathed, rubbing their noses together slightly, “I love you so much, I’m sorry”
“oh sweetheart,” Kiyoomi just knew their relationship wasn’t necessarily healthy, would make most relationship therapists quirk an eyebrow, because Kiyoomi was gone, all left over frustration gone with those simple words and left like putty in Atsumu hands, willing to be moulded and shaped into whatever he desired. “Its ok, there’s nothing to be sorry about.”
Atsumu shook his head in refusal, “Yes there is, I was so mean to you, and you didn’t deserve it.”
“My love, your bodys doing something amazing,” Kiyoomi couldn’t stop his automatic smile as rubbed small circles on his pregnant stomach, “And I know its hard for you and that your struggling right now, I’ll always be there no matter what.”
Anything else was cut off by Atsumu practical throwing himself closer, eliminating any space between them. They laid in silence for a couple minutes, both just breathing the other in.
Eventually Atsumu sighed, fingers starting to twist in Kiyoomi’s shirt, “the reason I was angry…” he trailed off.
Kiyoomi just hummed, giving him time.
“Ma always said there was nothing better than watching our little faces calm after wailing like banshees”, Kiyoomi kept quite despite the confusion at where this was going. Atsumu, eyes still avoiding his, carried on, “Knowing tha she was giving us what we needed, that in our small lives we were the happiest we had ever been and she was the cause of that.” Atsumus voice wobbled, and already Kiyoomi could scent the slight change that was usually followed by tears.
Kiyoomi rumbled, leaning down to nuzzle atsumus hair in comfort.
“When I first told her I was pregnant it was one of the first things she told me, that all the work and crying and pain would be worth it, because watching us settle by just being picked up, the way we never truly relaxed unless she was carrying us around, knowing that she could solve all of our problems and tha it wouldn’t always be like that, so to hold on to those moments.” Atsumus voice broke as he croaked out, “she said we were never more content than when she fed us, and I –“
Atsumu broke into tears, and Kiyoomi felt his heart break alongside it, “Oh my love, my beating heart, please don’t cry,” his hand moved to wipe his tears away, tilting his head up to meet eyes, “I can’t bare it, you’re going to force me to delay the Olympics”.
He let out a sharp surprised laugh, which is exactly what Kiyoomi was aiming for, “and how do ya expect to do that?”
Kiyoomi shrugged softly, hand not stopping his slow caress, letting out a wry grin “start a twitter fight with their account, go on tv and demand a delay, shut down the city, kidnap the main organisers and ransom them for a three-month delay-
Atsumu bust out In laughter, tears drying as he ducked to tuck his head in his neck, trailing off in to uncontrollable giggles. Kiyoomi, smiling widely, buried his face in his hair inhaling the fresh lemon scent, glad that the bitterness that had followed Atsumu all day was finally gone.
His attention was caught by the fingers trailing up his chest to smooth over his scent glad where Atsumus bite mark laid, Kiyoomi unable to stop the instinctively rumble, looking down to his smile.
Voice soft, he asked “you would do that for me?”
Kiyoomi, pressing his heart into Atsumu hands, like he did on the night of their mating, whispered “I would do anything for you, ask and its yours”. Kiyoomi had always struggled with words, but he new in that very moment he could have been the greatest writer the worlds ever seen and still wouldn’t be able to put in words the depth of his devotion and love for the man in his arms. He was a faithful follower, worshiping at the shine built by his heart, desperation lining every bone of his body to imprint the absolute lengths he would go if willed.
Atsumus scent bloomed, filling every corner of the room, and Kiyoomi knew his meaning had gone through.
“Kiyoomi,” He breathed, eyes once again tearing up, and Kiyoomi had to blink away his own tears because Atsumu smelt of pure and utter love in its truest form. He was purring almost non-stop, and Kiyoomi had never felt more satisfied and content in his life, down to his truest form, inner alpha practically shivering in the pure pleasure of having his mate, heavy with child, curled in his arms having never been happier.
They laid there for minutes, hours, days, Kiyoomi wouldn’t know, mind blank yet full, basking in the pure moment that was now, knowing he would remember every second till the day he died.
Their pup kicked right where they had their hands resting, Kiyoomi couldn’t stop the automatic smile. He knew from the mountain of baby books he had read that positive hormones caused babies to feel energised, encouraging them to move (the hormones produced from sex also had a very similar effect, and Kiyoomi couldn’t count the amount of times his mate had used his weak will towards his pup to get him in bed, or on a few memorable occasions in public).
Atsumu shuffled for a moment, eyes opening and blinking rapidly almost as if waking up from a pleasant dream. His hand slid up kiyoomis arm from where he had been resting it on top of his own, both cradling the kicking pup, now resting on his check to lean in for a slow kiss. There was no heat between them, barely moving but it was soft and slow, Atsumu pressing harder as if he could physically imprint the love Kiyoomi could smell on him.
Atsumu laughed slightly, shaking his head at kiyoomis confused look, “you got me all emotional and I forgot to tell you,” He hummed to show he was listing, never stopping his game of pressing gently on Atsumu stomach to see if their pup would kick there (he swears up and down the pup plays with him, nearly always tapping his hand back though no one seems to believe him), “One of the things that got me down the most wasn’t that I got to miss that, I know they’ll be other moments like it as ‘samu told me, but that our pup would.” He finished quietly.
Kiyoomi basically blurted out his words in effort to be quick with his reassurances, “sweetheart, no don’t thin-“
“No,” Atsumu cut Kiyoomi off, “I am thinking beacuse ma told me that we we’re never happier then when we were on her chest, feeling her heartbeat underneath us, full and safe.” Atsumu swallowed, almost nervous, “bottle feeding isn’t the same, or at least I feel like it won’t be. So ‘samu said…” He trailed off.
Kiyoomi raised an eyebrow, having an inkling of what his mate was about to say, “Yes?”
Atsumu took a deep breath, “he said he could feed our pup as well as theirs? Ya know? Cuz our milk would basically be identical, and he would have the time for it because hes taking a couple months off work ya know? Plus when he went back, he would still have time to pup or even take the pups to work with him- “ Atsumu was rambling and Kiyoomi lent down to press a quick kiss to stop the quick, despite ramble.
“That sounds like a wonderful idea,” He said, and it was, he had his own personal worries about bottle feeding, he had done extensive research and knew while formula was just as good nutritiously, there was benefits that only breastfeeding could do. He made a mental note to thank Osamu later, he knew this would be an extra strain on his body and was very grateful that he was willing to do so for his pup. He watched Atsumu relax again, “but what about you? Are you sure your going to be alright with this?”
Omegas were historically known for being possessive over their pups, history books lined with violent deeds done for their children. Wet nurses was a rare profession as many had met their end when an omega had given in to the into their violent urges, despite the fact they were often needed or asked to be as a status symbol. One of the most famous examples had been Cleopatra, whose advisers had gone over her to employ multiple wet nurses, as she was said to be too busy to attend to her children properly. In return not only did she torture and execute the advisers and every last nurse involved, she also hunted down every omega said to feed children over than their own.
Because omegas, while weaker than alphas, were absolutely brutal in defence of their pups and Kiyoomi honestly didn’t know if would be able to stop his mate if overcome by instinctually fury. There was a reason it was often used as a defence in omega crimes, and that was because reason and logic no longer existed once the individual was pushed back to their bare instincts.
Atsumu almost rolled his eyes, and Kiyoomi had to push down the urge to chastise him, “Me and ‘samu talked, I already know hes going to be a second ma to our pup and I can feel that I’ve complete accepted that. The same way that when I think of his and rins pup, I already know that’s my pup as well.”
Kiyoomi rumbled, leaning down to once again nuzzle Atsumus hair, “I’m glad then,” He didn’t say he felt the same as he refused to lie, while he looked on rins and osamus pup affectionally, he wouldn’t say he felt the same as he did his own pup and he knew rin felt the same though they hadn’t talked about it. The same way that the slow growing love for his own pup was growing day by day, rather than the way Atsumu had fall into it like Osamu had.
Kiyoomi was still in awa of the relationship the twins had, and he didn’t think he never would be. Because as close as he and Rin were, he couldn’t ever imagine acting the way the twins do, completely exposed and vulnerable, while trusted Rin with his life and family, the twins trust went further than that. That before he came into Atsumu life, the twins often had ‘soft’ heats, where they would spend their heat week with each other, sleeping and cuddling in the nest they built together, both in their completely submerged in their instincts. Any other omegas would have fought till one was thrown out their nest, yet this was the only time when they didn’t fight. Kiyoomi and Rin, till this day, were still occasionally thrown out the nest room so they could spend it together instead of with their mates.
Kiyoomi would take it as an insult to his skills in the bedroom, but Atsumu had long explained that both of them needed this. That it was helped sooth over any rips in their relationship and was one of the only things that brang them back together after the violent argument that nearly destroyed their relationship in high school. That their inner omega felt tense and more aggressive if it had been to long since their last soft heart.
This relationship then clearly passed to their pups, because Kiyoomi had watched Atsumu dote on Osamus pregnant stomach with the same look and pheromones as he did his own, the same way Osamu did. Already loving each other pups as their own, something him and Rin needed to catch up too.
He wasn’t that worried about it, having had a quit conversation with rins father as well as his own, while also researching it himself through the baby books and internet. He knew that alphas relationships with pups took time and exposure to achieve a true parental bond, unlike omegas that almost immediately achieved that level of relationships within a few weeks of knowing about their existence.
Atsumus stomach rumbled, cutting his thoughts off, he looked down just to see the Atsumu already looking at him with that teasing grin, “I think its time for dinner, come on big, bad alpha, time to provide for your omega.”
Kiyoomi pushed away the blank state that always trued to come over him when Atsumu called him back, snarking back, “Was then ice cream not a sustainable dinner? Colour me shocked.”
“ya ya ya”, Atsumu grumped, understanding the slight reprimand, he reached his hands up “carry me.”
Kiyoomi raised an eyebrow, “you have two legs don’t you?”
“please” Atsumu blinked up, and he sighed before reaching down to carry him bridal style, catching the time on the clock as he did. “I want ukon noodles.”
“Atsumu.”
“ya?”
“its two in the morning.” Kiyoomi knew it had been a significant amount of time since he walked in the room, but he didn’t expect almost 4 hours.
Atsumu swung his head around to start at the clock almost dumbfoundingly, before shrugging, “Well then we better be quite when cooking.”
“You mean when I’m cooking.”
“Well I wasn’t going to say it…”
