Chapter 1: finding out.

Chapter Text

“Peter, are you okay?”

Peter had been in a daze when she asked that, she was sweating and nauseous. She thought that it could’ve been just period symptoms which wouldn’t be off because she had pretty strong periods.

“Yeah, I think it’s just period symptoms. I’m fine, Nat. Seriously.” Peter waved her off.

Nat didn’t believe her but she didn’t push her to tell her anything, “Okay, if you say so. I think you should go home though, just until you’re better.”

Peter nodded and gathered her things and went to the locker room to change, she stuffed her suit in her locker and slammed the door, and jumped when she saw Wade standing there with a small smile on his face.

“Hey baby,” He said with a smile.

“Hey Red, what’re you doing here? I thought it was your day off.” Peter asked, she put her hair in a ponytail and took a deep breath when she felt a wave of nausea come on.

“Petey, baby, are you okay?” Wade asked with concern.

“Yeah, I’m fine. Are you going on a mission?”

Wade looked as if he didn’t really believe her either but answered her nonetheless, “Yeah, it’s only for a few days so I’ll be back for our movie night.” He said, kissing her softly.

“God, I love you.” She said, softly. “I gotta go, Nat is sending me home cause apparently, I look like shit.”

“Gotta say, I agree. Go get some rest, I’ll see you when I’m back. I love you.”

“Love you more, Red.”

“Not possible.”

She smiled when she walked away, walking out of the building and heading to her car to drive home but she wanted to make a stop first.

She stared at the pregnancy tests on the shelves and she could swear that they were mocking her but maybe it was just her nerves.

Fuck she might be pregnant.

She didn’t think too much of it but she had been expecting her period for a week now and it still didn’t start, she didn’t want to admit that she could’ve been pregnant. She wasn’t ready for a kid.

She grabbed two Clear Blue pregnancy tests and walked over to the counter to pay. She walked out with the pregnancy tests sitting heavily in the bag, she unlocked her car and entered, locking the door behind her and laying her head on the wheel. “Fuck.”

She pulled out her phone and called Natasha. The phone rang and she waited for her to pick up, the line clicked and she heard a faint ‘hello’

“Nat? I have a sort of dilemma.”

“What kind of dilemma are we talking about? A failed mission? Intel?” Nat asked.

“More of an I’m late for my period and I forgot to take my birth control kind of dilemma.”

“Shit.” She cursed silently.

Peter winced and started her car, pulling out of the parking lot and heading home. “Yeah, could you, maybe, come over and—“

“You don’t even have to ask, I’m already in my car and headed to your apartment now. I’ll see you there.”

She hung up without another word and headed home, she hoped that the test wouldn't come back positive.

She stared at the test with tears in her eyes, she didn’t wish hard enough because low and behold both tests came back… positive.

“Holy shit.”

She was pregnant. She couldn’t believe it, how was she going to tell Wade? They weren’t ready to have a kid, she was a spy for god's sakes and Wade was a mercenary — it was selfish to involve a child.

“Peter, are you okay?”

She turned to the door and opened it, “It came back positive.”

Nat pulled her into a hug while she cried, “Peter it’ll be okay, I’m gonna be here every step of the way.”

Peter held onto her tightly, not wanting to let go — Nat moved them to the couch and they sat in silence for a moment, she couldn’t believe that she was pregnant.

“How could I be so reckless? Fuck! I can’t believe this.” Peter laughed maniacally.

“Peter, it’s not your fault. It’s not like Wade is a one-night stand, he’s your boyfriend and you guys have been together for what? 5 months? Yeah, it’s early as shit but you guys can figure it out.” Nat said.

Peter couldn’t help but laugh, Natasha looked at her in concern with a mix of confusion. “Nat, we’ve been together for 8 months.”

“Well shit. It doesn’t matter, you get my point right?”

“Yeah, I get it.”

“Now, how about we order some pizza and watch a couple of shitty films?”

Peter nodded and moved to the couch, she was so grateful for Nat — she was her best friend and she was gonna be there for her through thick and thin and Peter couldn't have been happier to have her.

She saw her phone light up on the coffee table and she grabbed it but froze when she saw the contact, “Hey, Nat! I’ll be in the bathroom.”

“Okay!”

She walked into the bathroom and closed the door. Wade was calling her and she was hesitant to answer the phone but she answered the call. “Hey, babe!”

“Petey! How are you, snookums?” Wade answered excitedly, Peter could hear faint gunshots in the background.

“I’m fine, me and Nat are gonna watch a couple of movies and eat some pizza.”

“I’m glad you’re feeling better, baby! Fuck! Ay dipshit, you think you can wait for a little bit? I’m talking to the love of my life here.” Wade said over the line, she couldn’t help but laugh.

“Wade, call me later, okay. I love you.”

“I love you more, babycakes, I’ll be back in like two days tops.”

“See you soon, Red.”

The phone hung up and she beat herself up, she couldn’t bring herself to tell Wade that they were expecting a child but maybe she could wait a little longer.

Sitting in the waiting room of the doctor’s office with Natasha by her was the longest 30 minutes of her life. She was anxious and she had only made the appointment to see if she was pregnant, she was tempted to bite her nails when she heard her name being called.

“Parker.”

She sucked in a breath and looked at Nat, “Could you come with me?”

“Like you could tell me to leave.” She scoffed.

She smiled nervously and walked up to the doctor, the doctor greeted them with a warm smile and led them to an examination room. “I’m Dr.Helen Cho, you’re here for a pregnancy test and an ultrasound, correct?”

“Yes.”

“Okay, this will be an easy process and you won’t really feel any pain and this will be quick and easy.” She stated that  and Peter felt her anxiety alleviate once the doctor started to speak.

She handed Peter a cup of water to drink and directed her to the bathroom, “Drink that and then pee in this cup,”

Peter came out five minutes later and handed the cup to Dr.Cho. Nat rubbed her shoulders in a comforting motion, “Everything is fine, Peter.”

“Nervous?”

“Yeah. I don’t know if I’m ready to be a mother.” Peter said.

Dr.Cho sighed in understanding, “It’s completely understandable to have this reaction, no one is ever ready to have a child and there is no right way to prepare yourself.”

“Do you have children?” Natasha asked.

“Yes. A son, he’s seven. When I had him I wasn’t ready but when I got the hang of it, it felt so good to be a mother.”

Peter felt tears welling up in her eyes, when she looked up Helen looked at her with a sad smile and held up the stick, “I’m pregnant.”

“Seems so. Did you still want to go through with the ultrasound?”

Peter nodded before she could chicken out. “Yeah, we can do it.”

Natasha moved out of the way while Helen set up everything and Peter got on the bed and laid down, “Okay, we’re going to lift your shirt and apply the gel and you can watch the screen, okay?”

She nodded and lifted her shirt, her stomach was still flat but she could picture herself with a small bump and Wade would be there every step of the way. She jumped when she felt the cool gel being spread on her lower abdomen, she held out her hand for Nat to grab.

They all looked toward the screen and Helen was examined closely to try and find the clump of cells that would soon be a fetus.

Peter held onto Nat’s hand tighter as they kept looking at the screen, Helen finally stopped and pointed at the screen. “There it is. That’s your baby, it’s about the size of a blip and I would say you’re about two weeks along.”

Peter couldn’t help but to look at the screen with tears clouding her vision, she never expected something to trigger such emotion but to see her child before bringing it to life was surreal. “That’s my baby?”

“Yeah. This is before the baby is fully formed so as of right now the fetus is just a clump of cells or an embryo.” Helen smiled.

“Can I have a picture of this?” Peter asked.

“Of course, I’ll print it right away. Here are some wipes to clean yourself off.” Helen handed her a couple of wipes, Peter proceeded to wipe off the rest of the gel and sit up.

She looked at Nat who had a smile on her face and tears still in her eyes.

She was just as astonished as her. She was gonna be a mother.
