“Buck.”
There’s a pause, and then the sound of a breathless, ragged sob. Not the kind Buck lets out when he’s trying to play it off, not the kind he hides behind a laugh. No, this is raw, wet and broken and small.
“Can you pick me up?”
Bobby’s chest cracks open.
Buck’s voice is hoarse, like he’s been crying for hours –or screaming into a pillow. It’s frayed at the edges, worn down to the nerve. And it’s not just sadness Bobby hears in it– it’s fear and terror.
“I want to go home,” Buck whispers next, and it shatters something deep in Bobby’s gut.or: The 118 teaches Buck that family isn't about owing someone your organs, but about who brings you pie when you've given too much of yourself away.

Ravi’s voice drops to a near-whisper, thick with incredulous realization. “Wow. Okay. I’ve heard older gays could be kind of… selectively dense about this stuff, but wow. This is next-level.”
Eddie’s head snaps up, eyebrows shooting toward his hairline. “Did you just call me old?” There’s a flicker of that protective, slightly dangerous edge Ravi now instinctively associates with the Diaz Death Glare™.
“I’ll have you know I’m bi,” Buck adds helpfully, completely missing the point as usual, his face lit with earnestness.
Ravi just stares at them, the sheer, magnificent absurdity of it all finally clicking into place. “So… you both agree on the dumb part, then?”or: Ravi knows they are together, he just doesn't understand why everybody is lying to him.

“Wait,” Buck says again, and Eddie hears the smile in it this time, low and a little worried. “So you were listening the whole time?”
And there it is. The trap.
He tries for cool detachment. “Didn’t exactly have a choice. Your phone decided I needed to be a part of your… whatever that was.”
Buck laughs –soft, delighted, like Eddie’s just said something better than a joke. It’s unfair, the way it works on him, the way it makes his chest feel too tight.
“Diaz,” Tommy cuts in, sharp and irritated, “maybe you can explain to him why calling out another man’s name during sex is a problem.”
And maybe Eddie should. Maybe he should play along, take Tommy’s side for once, because it would be easy and safe and noncommittal. But instead, what comes out is, “I’m still stuck on the bed thing.”or: Buck moans Eddie's name during sex enough times for his phone to call the man.
