Chapter 1: Just the two of us

Chapter Text

The night was filled with cool greens, teals, and sky blues that danced in unpredictable waves and curves, speckled with dots of light which glimmered against the bright sky. It was a surprising sight, one which none of the crew had experienced before, but a pleasant one at that. It was reminiscent of home for Gill who bathed in the unnatural light while leaning against the rail of the ship.

He felt the railing creak, and judging by the light footsteps that accompanied it before, it was safe to say Chip had come to join him.

“Gorgeous isn’t it” Gill said acknowledging the presence to his left.

“Mhm” Chip replied although unbeknownst to Gill, his gaze was decidedly not at the sky.

A calming silence set over the two as they looked out, broken only by a soft hum produced by Gillion.

“What song is that?” Chip asked after a couple moments.

“I cannot remember unfortunately. Although I believe it was a popular slow dance song in the underseas.” Gill responded “I only remember it from the brief lessons I had whilst in training.”

“Lessons?” Chip inquired. “For what dancing? I thought it was just, yknow battle training for the chosen one.” He continued with a scoff

“Well it was intended to teach me how to act in more formal settings such as balls and whatnot. I was never as interested in these lessons however.” He said with a chuckle. “The main thing that kept my interest was how similar battles were to a dance in a certain way. It’s keeping up with an opponent. One slip up and you’ve fallen behind, and for one to last in the dance, the two must be at a fairly equal skill level.”

“Hm, never thought of it like that. Although dances tend to be a lot less violent” Chip exhaled sarcastically. He tilted his head with a slight smile on his face. “If it’s like combat then are you still any good at it? I mean I’d imagine it’s been so long, wouldn’t you be a little rusty?”

“Hah! We can test your theory, if you know how.” Gill said with his voice lined with a challenge.

“Course I know how, I’ve picked up a few tricks.”

“Then lets see what you’ve got”
