Work Text:

Hailey and Jay walked into the 21st district on a Saturday morning. Another young officer held the door open for the two, as Jay’s hands were filled with bags, and Hailey’s large stomach speaking for itself.

The two quietly thanked the officer after walking in, the door swinging closed. It was then they saw Platt at her desk, giving her usual instructions to patrol officers. She looked up at the sight of the two detectives, greeting them as she usually did.

“Ah, Chuckles, Goldilocks.” She joked, Jay and Hailey walking over to her desk.

“Hey Sarge.” Hailey greeted, placing her hands on top of the desk, Jay standing not far behind her.

Before anyone could say anything else, Platt reached under her desk, pulling out a manilla folder. “Chuckles, you don’t mind handing this over to Voight, Do ya?”

Jay opened his mouth to speak, tilting his head over to the two large bags in his hand. “I’m actually-”

“Great, thanks!” Platt cut him off, pushing the file closer towards him.

He reluctantly took the file, shoving it under his arm, and making his way up the bullpen stairs. After he was gone, Platt turned back to Hailey, who was now leaning against her desk.

“You know,” Platt started, “If I was in your shoes, I’d be taking all the time off I could get right now.”

Hailey laughed, “Soaking it all in.” She answered truthfully, “I’m gonna be MIA for a little while in just a few weeks, so I’m doing what I can.”

Hailey was now 36 weeks, ready to have their baby any day now. Being the stubborn woman she is, she refused to take leave, preferring desk duty over boring herself to death at home for the next few weeks.

“We’re gonna miss you around here.” Platt said.

“Oh please,” Hailey started, “I’ll be back before you know it.”

“Yeah, you better.” Platt reprimanded, turning her attention to the buttons on the wall, “I’ll buzz you in.”

Hailey gave her a smile before walking away, “You’re the best!”

“I know!” Platt muttered back, making sure Hailey heard her. She laughed to herself as the gate to the bullpen opened, closing it behind her.

It sounded like some conversation had been going on in the bullpen, but it immediately stopped once the team heard Hailey coming up the stairs.

“Pregnant lady in the house! Adam, you owe me 10 bucks!” Kevin chanted as Hailey walked in. Adam sighed reluctantly, reaching into his pocket.

“The bets have started?” Hailey asked, walking over to her desk.

“Trust me.” Kim started, clearly annoyed. “They started a while ago.” She exaggerated

“First, it was whether it’s a boy or girl, which I won.” Adam clarified, remembering the bet he’d won just a few weeks prior.

The plan was to wait until they were born to find out the gender, but when Hailey and Jay discovered how difficult that actually was, they decided they wanted to know. It ended up being a girl, which landed Adam 10 bucks.

Then it was whether Voight, or Trudy would find out first. Hailey and Jay had all intentions of telling Voight just a little while after finding out, but inevitably, Platt found out first.

They have no idea how she found out, since all she responded with was, “I know everything.”

Which led Hailey to believe their most recent bet was the due date. It was originally set for November 14th, but Adam somehow managed to believe that today, 4 entire weeks early, that Hailey would have the baby.

“I don’t know how Ness and I gonna do this without you.” Kim stated to Hailey, making her laugh pitly at the statement.

“What’s the next bet?” Hailey asked, having no choice but to feed into their childish antics.

“Who she’s gonna look more like.” Kevin stated, “I say you, but Adam says Jay.”

“Okay, I’m sorry Adam, but she’s gonna look just like Hailey.” Vanessa chimed in, clearly now interested in the conversation.

“Are you kidding me? That kid’s gonna be a carbon copy of Jay. I’d bet even more money on that.” Adam defended himself.

“How much more we talking?” Kevin asked, raising an eyebrow. Adam shot him a look, before speaking.

“Settle down now.”

“Well ladies,” A voice erupted from down the hallway, “I hate to interrupt your betting, but we’ve got work to do.”

They looked to see Voight coming down the hallway, with freshly printed pictures in his hand.

“Jeffrey Franco, 39, was just released from prison a few months ago. After 13 mysterious OD’s went down just this past month, a witness identified him, which means we find this guy, find out who he is, and who he’s working with and we arrest them.” Voight started, pinning different pictures to their evidence board as he spoke.

“Hailey, run this guy see if we can get any more info.”

“Got it.” she said, typing his information quickly into her computer. After just a moment, she spoke up again. “He has an aunt by the name of Marcine Franco, at…3500 North Haling.”

“Alright,” Voight said, the team already scrambling around the room, “Let’s hit it. Hailey, you-”

“Yep, got it.” As much as she didn’t like it, Hailey had adjusted to her new routine. She knew she had to stay back while the team had to go out, do the stuff she’d been dying to do for months now. She reminded herself it’s just for a little while longer, but it couldn’t come soon enough.

At this time, Trudy would usually come up there, or she’d go down to the desk, and help her out, as there wasn’t much she could do on her part while her team was out.

Jay walked over to Hailey’s desk, pressing a kiss on to the top of her forehead after he grabbed his jacket, and rubbing her belly bump softly. “Don’t do anything stupid while I’m gone okay?”

“Yeah, same goes for you.” She warned. She kissed him softly, smiling him goodbye as he left with the team.
