Work Text:
The morning was nice in the Kiramman household. The new Kiramman household. Caitlyn and Vi had just returned from their honeymoon a week ago and had been sorting out their moving-in boxes in their new apartment. Cassandra and Tobias had dropped a notice to come and visit a few days ago and Caitlyn decided that some extra helping hands wouldn't hurt.
After helping the newly wedded couple sort out the smaller items, Caitlyn served her parents some tea and snacks while all of them waited for their food delivery to arrive. They are now sitting in the living room, a space joint to an open kitchen and dining area. Most of their knickknacks are finally in place, leaving only the cleaning supplies to be sorted out in the laundry room.
Down the hall, Vi could be heard trying to wrestle the washing machine into its place. The rest of the Kirammans had offered to help but it was vehemently rejected and they were shooed to the living room. Caitlyn found herself worrying her bottom lip a bit. The more frustrated Vi gets, the higher the chances of her using excessive force and they just got the washing machine delivered yesterday.
"I still don't understand why you want a place this small, dear. You could have just repurposed a section of the eastern wing." Cassandra said, distracting Caitlyn's thoughts away from her worries. The older woman was nursing her tea in the armchair.
"Because it's cozy and what feels best for us, Mum. Plus, it wouldn't take me 5 minutes just to get water from the kitchen now," Caitlyn rinsed her hands at the sink and stepped into the living room to join Tobias on the sofa.
Tobias chuckled and put a hand on Caitlyn's shoulder.
"I'm just happy you're keeping your office at the estate. We would still get to see you regularly."
A loud crash came from the designated laundry room, pulling all of their attention.
Vi's voice can be heard loudly, "Everything's fine! Relax! No need to come here!"
Everybody exchanged nervous glances before Caitlyn asked, "Are you sure darling?"
"Yep! Everything's just… peachy, Cupcake!"
A barely restrained string of curses can be heard from Vi.
Tobias made a motion to get up but Caitlyn quickly gestured for him to sit back down and shook her head quickly. If no intervention is what Vi asked, Caitlyn knew it's best to let her have it. But she desperately hoped that any calls for help would come before there's an unsightly ding on the new washing machine. She opened up the box of pastries her parents had brought along.
Caitlyn said with a wry smile, "How about we have this first while waiting for the food?"
Cassandra pointed a finger to where Vi probably was and looked at her skeptically, "Are you sure about-"
A knock on the front door of the apartment interrupted her before she could continue.
Tobias took the opportunity to get up and opened the door, revealing a young courier boy and definitely not the food delivery person they were expecting.
The boy looked into the apartment with a slip of paper held in his hand and loudly asked, "Delivery for a Mrs. Kiramman?"
Immediately, both Caitlyn and Cassandra started to get to their feet before stopping to look at the other.
Then from the laundry room, Vi emerged with a huff, comically covered in white detergent powder from head to toe, "You got a delivery for me?"
Something about the moment seemed to had been absolutely hilarious for Tobias because the man immediately broke into laughter.
