Everything sucks.
That's how you really feel today. You groan as soon you lie down on the couch and turn on the TV. You don't really want to recall the details of what happened exactly, but everyone was being ruthless jerks and they pissed you off very badly. The sound from the TV can't shake off those thoughts either. So now you're stuck staring blankly at the TV screen while reliving the worst moments of the day over and over in your thoughts. Such a terrible day.
Not until you hear Jesse shout, "Yo, babe, I'm home!" as the front door opens.
He sits next to you and greets you with a big smile. His smile quickly turns into a look of concern after he sees you frowning and asks: "Are you okay?"
You give him a small smile. "Yeah, I'm just feeling really crappy right now."
Jesse gives you an understanding look and puts his arm around you. You lean into the touch for comfort and rest your head against his shoulder.
"What's wrong, baby? Wanna talk about it?"
"Just not feeling very well, is all." You let out a tired sigh. Right now, you don’t want to tell him. Maybe later.
Jesse seems satisfied with your response and draws you in closer. You close your eyes and relax into the warmth of Jesse's arms. He gives a kiss on the top of your forehead.
After a few minutes, you feel Jesse moving. It seems like he's going to get up from his seat and walk away. But then he says, "Hey, you know what we should do?"
He takes some DVDs out of the drawer and hands one to you.
Friends.
He grins. "I know you love this show." And he is correct. "I'll put this on, okay?"
You are sure that Jesse doesn’t like this show very much. And as far as you know, he also doesn’t watch many TV shows either. However, he remembers that this is your comfort show, and his first idea to cheer you up is to watch Friends with you, makes you fall in love with him more.
An hour later, you still find yourself giggling about the ridiculous shenanigans the characters are doing. You laugh until tears form in your eyes, which makes Jesse laugh too. The two of you hold each other under the blanket and stay like this until you both have calmed down.
Sometimes Jesse will look at you for your reaction, and he smiles, resisting the urge to kiss you. He is aware that you would never laugh so loudly without this show. And he's happy to see you happy like this.
Jesse kisses you and pulls you into his arms, and before you close your eyes, you think to yourself:
Maybe everything doesn't suck after all.
