Work Text:

"come on, sit next to me," kanae beckoned as he swayed his legs over the ledge of the wooden bridge. his feet seemed to dance along the water's surface as he leisurely leaned back.

alexandr narrowed his eyes. sure, it would be safe to sit down, but he wasn't sure if the bastard he called companion would have any tricks up its sleeves.

"stay like that then," kanae said with a chuckle as he turned to face forward once again, bathing in the soft wind.

the breeze rustled the leaves on the trees as if they were windchimes and the faint smell of earth rose from the ground in an invisible mist.

"are you scared of heights?" he teased, seeing how alexandr clicked his tongue.

"I don't trust you."

"so you're scared of me?"

a vein throbbed in the vampire's temple as kanae's light laughter strummed along in the wind.

“I’m just joking. I won’t do anything, promise.” he patted the spot next to him as alexandr eyed it with interest. cautiously, the vampire walked forward until he too dangled his feet off the wooden bridge.

”see? Not so bad, isn’t it?”

“If you push me down, weak human, I’ll drag you with me.”

“I know that; that’s why I won’t push you.”

“kanae, I’ll kill you.”

"just shut up and enjoy the scenery?”

finding kanae annoyance satisfying, lagusa huffed a smug breath before looking forward.

the scenery in front of him was quiet and still. the pond’s waters beneath him trickled quietly along as leaves littered it like splatters of paint from a brush. the sunlight reflected off the water’s surface gently as the trees shielded them both from the intense heat of the sun.

the priest blinked. “Is that a fish?”

alexandr squinted at where the guy was pointing.
“that’s a shoe.”

“It’s a fish.”

“a shoe.”

“a shoe fish.”

“kanae, it’s a shoe.”

“It’s a fish and you’re just blind.”

“how about I push you in and you tell me if it’s a shoe or not?”

silence.

“but really, I did see a fish,” kanae admitted grumpily, resting his chin against his fist. alexandr peered deeper into the still waters.

“there is one,” he noted as he saw a brightly colored fish swam past.

“where?” the priest said with excitement, leaning against the vampire's shoulder.

“There,” alexandr guided, pointing at the fish swimming leisurely underneath a fallen tree branch.

“Is that a koi fish?”

“a what now?”

kanae looked at alexandr, unimpressed. “A koi fish. Koi. You know, the famous fish?”

alexandr tilted his head to the side. “Famous for what?”
he shrugged his shoulders. “I dunno, ask the fish that, not me.”

“you brought it up.”

“I don’t make things famous.”

alexandr nodded at the fair response as he leaned back at kanae. their shoulders rested against each other, the sun casting its lazy beams between the leaves and onto their faces. they eyed deeper into the water, searching for anything to grab their interest.

after minutes of fruitless searching, they both came under an unspoken agreement to stop. a yawn came over kanae as he stretched his arms forward.
Feeling the need to stretch as well, the vampire stretched out his arms as he leaned back until his back touched the bridge floor.

“It’s nice here,” the priest said softly, a sleepy lull washing over him.

“It’s a nice place to make bugs fight.”

“what?” he turned to face alexandr.

the vampire was searching around with his eyes, his feet dangling off the edge.

“why here?”

“It’s convenient.” He got up and started searching nearby.

kanae, not understanding the logic, decided to lie down himself, waiting for his companion to finish whatever the hell he was doing.

a few minutes passed and alexandr stopped, stretching his arms again. the slight burn of his abs felt just right as he stretched his back. He lied down at the same spot once again. A leaf flew past and fell to his left. Following it, he turned his head and watched the leaf fall on kanae.

the leaf fell on his hair, sticking out like a green thumb. alexandr went to get it but was surprised at the man’s lack of response. he took a closer look to see the man napping, his crimson eyes serenely following the path of his ash brown hair swaying against the gentle breeze. His chest rose and fell slowly as his face was at complete peace.

the vampire couldn’t help but watch. His partner looked really peaceful when he was sleeping. the usual annoyingly soft spoken voice turned into quiet breaths and the tension in his shoulders had finally melted away.

alexandr blinked. Good. That was good. kanae was resting. the man sighed. he might as well wait for him to wake up.

he faced the blue sky above, only obscured by leaves and branches.
kanae was right. this place was comfortable.

the priest blinked as he groggily stretched his arms. A few leaves were on his face and he wiped them off. His legs felt terrible and his back horrendous. He sat up straight and stretched his back with no avail until his eyes settled down on the completely still figure next to him.

alexandr was sleeping quietly next to him.
he watched as his eyebrows loosened, how his hair swayed gently with the wind. It was cute how such a rough and eternally scowling face could look so soft and innocent while asleep. So cute, in fact, that kanae caught himself staring.

A stray leaf fluttered down and made it’s way to alexandr's hair. quietly, he picked up the leaf, chuckling at the vampire's quiet groan.

The young priest smiled to himself, watching alexandr's face transform into one of content.
Might as well wait for his vampire to wake up.
