It doesn't help that he's coming back to the town's public school after being expelled. Neither does sitting next to Will Solace in calculus, who seems hell-bent on being friends again.
Will Solace is going to make it through this year if it kills him, and he's going to do it by running on coffee and optimism. It doesn't matter that he's on his way to failing calculus, or that he has a social worker breathing down his neck. And he's finally going to get an explanation from Nico, who only seems capable of sarcasm and glares.

How she even pulled it from the rubble of the Last Drop Ekko’ll never know, but he knows he loves her so much in that moment it makes him dizzy, loves her in that way he hasn’t since they were children, since the last time she took a punch aimed at him.
