Work Text:
“Come on! We’re going to miss the last train!” Masayuki shouted, running through the train doors and blocking it from closing.
She wasn’t that far behind though and climbed on right after him, taking a seat. He heard Yu breathe a sigh of relief. The last few days had been nonstop business related work and they were both tired. He couldn't remember the last time they had a moment to just relax.
But it was over and they didn’t have work tomorrow, which was possibly the only thought driving them at this hour at night.
Masayuki stood and looked up at the train map for a moment. He held onto one of the bars over his head and felt the gentle lull of the train rocking back and forth. There were service changes this late at night and they would have to transfer.
Yu sat quietly behind him for a moment, while he skimmed the stops and read the transfer stations. His train of thought was broken when he felt arms wrap around his waist and he stumbled back, right into Yu's lap.
"What the—Yu?" Masayuki sputtered, feeling his heart leap in his throat at the sudden, unexpected pull of his being. He struggled in her grasp, twisting around a little to see her face. "What are you doing!?"
"Aww, you looked so tired. I thought you'd want to sit down too." She firmly held him in place; his feet dangled a little.
"We're on the train!" He leaned forward and tried to pull her arms apart, but she kept her death grip on him. He almost tugged them apart, but they were nearly even in strength—
"I'm trying to see where we have to transfer!"
"And—I know where to—stop moving so much, Masa-chan!" She raised her voice and held onto him tighter. “I know where to get off! Sit back and relax!!"
"What are you doing!?" He shouted back again, twisting around to maneuver out of her grasp in a different way. "Let go of me!"
Yu placed her head on his shoulder and he slowed down his erratic movements for a moment. "There's no one here; just you...and me." She said quietly, contently; her eyes closed.
"Yeah?! But are you crazy? Let go of me! I can just sit next to you after I look at the map!
"I missed you." She ignored his protestations.
"What are you going on about? I saw you all day!" He stopped struggling for a moment.
"Yeah, but we've been so busy lately. I haven't held you like this in forever." She nuzzled her face in the back of his neck and he shivered slightly. They really hadn’t had much time for each other lately...
He took a deep breath. "...can't this wait till we get home? Let go, Yu."
"No." She protested childishly, without raising her head from his back.
She pressed a kiss into his hair and breathed deeply; pressed another kiss to the nap of his neck and nibbled on his smooth, warm skin.
"Yu." Masayuki squirmed.
“Hmm?”
"Not the place.” He countered quietly through gritted teeth as the train pulled into another station.
Her fingers played with his top button and then ran under the neck of his shirt, across his collar bone, feeling for any exposed skin, and her breath was hot against his neck, when Masayuki spotted a passenger out of the corner of his eye boarding the train. He scrambled out of her arms, right onto the floor.
“Masa-chan! Are you okay?!” Yu had leapt up from her seat and lowered herself to his level; had her hands on his shoulder, his arm and then his face. She slowly ran her fingers down from his forehead to his chin and…he looked up at her face. He really looked. He hadn’t had a chance to look at her in a few days—to notice how she glowed even after a long day at work and under the lighting from the train and, and—shoot, they were still on the train.
He shook his head and swatted her hand away, and felt his heart pound loudly in his chest as if he was seventeen again and just realizing he loved her for the first time.
“Are you hurt?” She asked again; her face was up in his.
The car rocked gently and the other passenger coughed a little, but didn’t look up from his game system.
“I’m fine.” He pulled himself up in a slight huff and deposited himself into a seat. Crossing his arms over his chest, his legs felt slightly shaky from being caught off guard again.
Yu took the one next to him and slung her arm around his shoulders, pulled him closer; pressed him against her side.
"What spontaneous thing are you going to pull now? You better not."
"It won't be spontaneous if I tell you!"
He half expected her to reach over and grab him in some inappropriate hug, but all she did was rest her head on top of his.
"What's the matter with you?" He grumbled. "You're ticking me off."
"Nothing! Isn't this nice though?"
"What's nice? I'm tired, it's late and you're being so irritating."
"Aww, Masa-chan, you like it though." She whispered deep and low into his ear and he shivered slightly. He was about to protest when she nipped at his earlobe with her lips.
"What the h—" he moved to push her away but she laughed, dodging his flailing arms.
"Stop acting like a high school kid." Masayuki snapped at her.
"Those were good times.” She leaned back and stretched her arms out, yawning. “You were so cute then, Hori-chan-senpai. You still are.”
He nudged her in the side. “Take a nap. You’re annoying.” He closed his own eyes and slouched in his seat.
They lapsed into silence for about ten minutes. Yu looked through her phone and back at him, already bored.
"Hey, hey, Masa-chan,” She nudged him with the back of her hand, her knee brushing his as the train gently swayed.
“What?” He snapped with his eyes closed.
“Do you remember when we used to take the train every day together the last half-year you were in high school?"
"Yeah? What about it?" he opened an eye and glanced at her from the side.
"Isn't this nostalgic?"
"Not really, no. I’m too exhausted to deal with you right now."
“It is!! Don’t you remember all those mornings? Sometimes I was late—”
“You were always late.” He cut in, straightening up, fully awake now.
“Was not! But what I was saying—sometimes, I was late, but there was that one time you were massively late, because you had a stomachache—”
“Why were you waiting anyway that day? You should have gone ahead to school. You could have avoided getting in trouble.”
“Why would I leave you?” Yu reached over, took his hand and pressed a kiss to the back.
Masayuki rolled his eyes. He was going to forever be her princess, but these little things just didn’t bother him as much anymore.
She kept a hold of his hand, cradled it in hers, felt the familiar weight and strength and found comfort in the touch that was only Hori Masayuki to Kashima Yu and like-wise.
"Besides,” she continued, “you’ve always waited for me to catch up.”
He opened his mouth to retort, no I didn’t. She was always ahead already—but the train rolled into the next station, stopping with its usual push and pull, and the announcement echoed throughout the train.
This is Oyama station. This is Oyama station. Please change here for the...
"Come on," he grumbled instead, tightly gripped the hand that was holding his and pulled her up. “Let’s go home.”
