Chapter Text
Today already was a shit day. His hair didn’t fucking cooperate, he did badly on his math test and for some reason Jason and his brain dead friends were a lot worse than usual. He already needed to collect himself in the bathroom, otherwise there also would’ve been a visit to the principle on the program for today.
He didn’t have one of those days in a long time. In DnD terms, it was as if he would’ve rolled the worst stat ever.
Thankfully it was Friday, meaning when he’s home he could chill out smoke some weed and play his guitar until his spirits were lifted.
That was his plan, though he fell asleep as soon as he came home. Not even taking his jacket off, just falling into bed. When he woke up he felt better... until he looked for his cigarettes, needing one to calm his nerves further. Instead he got annoyed again, how could he forget that he smoked his last one this morning before school?
Only option now was to look for the tobacco he used to roll his joints with. Roll a normal cigarette and try to salvage this shit day.
Ah fuck, he gave that bag of tobacco to one of his…’clients’. They didn’t have any and him and his stupid big heart gave them the rest of his. God, sometimes he hated himself.
It was 11pm, meaning no store was open anymore in this shit town. But if he remembered correctly there was a gas station about 20 miles away, they’d have what he needed. At least he hoped so, knowing his luck today was terrible.
Is he actually gonna drive 20 miles for that now? He could just lay down again and wait for a better tomorrow. He really didn’t need to go out that late. Yeah no, he not only needed a smoke but also wanted to get out, clear his head and maybe blast some music in the car.
Wayne was at work, he didn’t really care if he was out that late. So he grabbed his keys, rubbed his eyes in annoyance and took one deep breath before he left the RV.
This fucking gas station was in the middle of nowhere. It took him 30 minutes to find it and when he did he was surprised that it was still running. It looked awful. As long as they had what he needed.
There was no bell sound when he entered the store, he also didn’t see anyone. If this was where he met his end, so be it. He honestly didn’t care anymore.
“Hiya!” a voice behind him said happily. “Jesus fucking Christ, don’t do that! I’m known for my weak heart!” he exclaimed dramatically while turning around, clenching his chest tightly. His eyes fell on someone who looks like they should work in a prettier store.
“Dude, I’m so sorry. I kinda thought you heard me coming” she giggled. He didn’t respond, for some reason enamoured by her small laugh. She walked past him to the cash register and he had no other choice but to check her out. Even while wearing that horrendous work uniform, she still looked cute.
“So, what do we need this fine Friday night?” she said smiling, looking at him with big eyes.
A pretty girl looked at him without fear or judgement, his day got immediately better. He could literally feel his confidence come back.
“Well darling, a nice little birdie told me a beautiful lady works here. So I had to check it out” he confidently stated while walking up to the register. Really smiling for the first time today. She cleared her throat, trying to hide her laugh. “The beautiful lady left already but I’m happy to help.” “You’re telling me there are multiple beautiful ladies working here? This gas station must be the reception to heaven then.” he stated in a charming manner. He tried to make it charming. Charming wasn’t his forte.
It actually made her actually laugh out loud. “Stop it, that was horrible! Do you use that one on all the late night gas station workers?” “Only on the ones that nearly scare me to death.”
“You know how to make a gal feel special, don’t you?”
When did his shit day turn into the best thing that has happened in literal months. A attractive girl with a cute laugh was actually joking around with him, without being grossed out.
“I try, I try. Darling, tell me me something.” You expectedly looked at him, biting your lip trying to hide a smile. Oh, this was dangerous. “Why do you work all alone in this scary place? Especially at night.” “The owner pays more if you work at night and I really want a car.” she explained, smiling sweetly at him.
“You don’t have a car? Wait how do get home? We are in the middle off nowhere. Don’t tell me…” “Yeah I walk home.” He gave her a look of disbelief. She wasn’t serious now, was she? A girl walking home at night in the middle of nowhere?
“I assume you came here for something, so how can I help you?” she stated, still smiling. He did come here for something so why did he suddenly start worrying for a girl he didn’t even know the name of?
“Ah yes, can you give me your cheapest pack of cigarettes?”
“Totally.” she turned around and unlocked the cabinet behind you taking out a pack. Her butt looked good, he closed his eyes and shock his head lightly. “That’d be 4,50$ please.” He handed her some money, contemplating if he should say what he’s thinking now. She gave him his change and they accidently touched hands, her hands are soft. Ah, fuck it.
“When do you leave work? I’ll give you a ride home.” he offered…did he sound creepy?
“You know it’s strongly advised to not share information like that with strangers. You could be a bad person after all.”
He knew it, of course. Him offering was odd. Especially with the way he looked. He looked down, a bit embarrassed now.
“Maybe we can get to know each other first and then I’ll accept the ride home. Are you free now?”
He met her eyes, that were also unfairly pretty, gave her the biggest smile and said, “Darling, I’ve got all the time in the world.”
Today wasn’t as shitty.
