Work Text:
Ivo and Aban spent years working for the government. And a further few years working alone trying to capture an intergalactic hedgehog from his human parents. It all got tiring after a while though. They were both getting older. But even besides their growing need to retire from the high-energy work, they both found that the only part of their diabolical plans they enjoyed anymore were the parts they spent together.
Robotnik never thought he'd enjoy 'settling down.' But spending his evenings cooking with Stone and dancing while they waited for the water to boil filled him with joy that capturing Sonic never could have.
Curling up on the couch with a full stomach and the television humming incoherently in the background. The warmth that came from Stone's cozy sweater and his sweet as honeysuckle words whispered under his breath. Whispered as if he were making a promise so sacred that he was swearing his life on it.
Then after getting ready for bed, and settling into the covers, they'd talk under the moonlight. About their deepest fears and insecurities, how much they love each other or teasing each other light-heartedly.
Nights like these haven't always been so frequent. They've become extremely common for the couple in recent months, though.
"And this one?" Ivo whispers, tracing his finger over a long scar running from Stone's shoulder to his stomach.
"Break-in at the agency. 2014," Aban whispers back. "Caught me off guard. Gave em' what they deserved though."
Ivo hums, letting his finger drift along different marks and scars on Stone's chest.
"This one?"
"1995. Fell out of a tree."
Ivo snorts.
"It was traumatic," Aban nods thoughtfully, prompting a small laugh from his husband.
"And these ones?" Ivo asks, pointing to the scar just under his breast.
"You know what those ones are, dear," Aban wraps an arm around Ivo and pulls him closer. "They're my top surgery scars."
"I do know. But I like hearing the story," Ivo tilts his head up to meet Aban’s gaze.
"Why?"
"It reminds me of how resilient you are."
Aban smiles and leans forward to press a kiss on Ivo's temple.
"Go to sleep. You get sappy when you're tired," he says, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
"Fine. We do have a lot of evil ahead of us tomorrow–" Ivo shuffles down into bed, pulling the covers up to his chin. "–We need our rest.
Aban hums and lays down, pulling Ivo closer so he can rest on his chest. As far as tomorrow’s evil goes, however, is cuddling while watching brain-rotting reality TV.
"I love you," Ivo mumbles, draping his arm over Aban's stomach. "A lot."
"I know, darling. I know. Go to sleep," Aban mumbles, burying his face into his greying hair.
"You won't leave right?" Ivo's grip on Aban tightens.
"Ivo, darling, we've been married for 16 years. And every single one of those 5844 days have been the greatest days of my life," he presses a kiss to Ivo's temple. "I promise you, I'm not going to leave."
“Of course, you know how many days are in 16 years off the top of your head...” Ivo mumbles. “Are you sure?"
"Positively sure."
"Okay," Ivo mumbles. "Okay, yeah."
"Time to sleep now, okay? I'll be right here when you wake up," Aban says.
"Goodnight," Ivo rubs his head against Aban as he gets comfortable.
"Goodnight, my sweet. I love you."
