Work Text:
Tango woke up in a cold sweat, still feeling endermen claws in his neck.
“I need to find… Jimmy… wait…” Tango looked around him. He was in Hermitcraft. He was in his base. He didn’t have a soulmate anymore.
He didn’t have a soulmate anymore.
He kind of expected to be sad about that, but he was more just confused.
“I’m not gay,” he said to himself. “I have never cared about Jimmy before. I do not care about him now.”
It was true! He tried to call upon any lingering warmth, concern, or any emotion at all about the man. Nothing.
Okay. Okay. What.
Tango pulled out his communicator, confusion being replaced with distress
Tango: Impulse
Tango: Impulse I need to talk to you
Impulse: What’s up?
Tango: It’s about Double Life
Impulse: omw
“Okay, so I’m not crazy,” Tango said, meeting Impulse outside of his base.
“What even happened?” Impulse asked. “It’s like one moment I’m absolutely in love with Bdubs- not even in love- it’s like we were married for years- I’ve never felt that way before about anyone in my entire life- Am I gay now? Do I like men? Do I like Bdubs? I don’t think so? How am I supposed to interact with him normally now?”
“I thought maybe it was just part of being soulbound at first?” Tango wondered out loud. “Like, maybe it increased our concern for each other or something, but I don’t think that kissing is an increased concern. I kissed him. I loved him. I don’t love him. I-”
“What was in the water on that server?!?” Impulse questioned, his voice on the verge of panic.
Tango: Grian
Tango: Grian
Tango: Grian
Tango: Grian
Grian: what
Tango: We need to talk
Grian: about what
Tango: Double Life
Grian: why
Tango: It’s important
Grian: okay
Grian: if you say so.
Grian glided down in front of Tango’s base, where he was immediately tackled by Tango.
“Grian. What happened in Double Life?” he asked, his voice sounding desperate.
“A lot. You’re going to have to be more specific than that,” Grian responded, rolling his eyes.
“Why were Bdubs and I in a loving marriage?” Impulse chimed in.
“No idea. I thought Bdubs was just like that,” Grian said, shrugging.
“Yeah, but I’m not!” Impulse said. “I’ve never felt that way before about anyone.”
“Congratulations, you’re in love.”
“But I’m not! I don’t feel that way about him! It was only during Double Life that I felt that way!”
“Can I go home now?” Grian asked tiredly. “I’m not the best person to vent about your sexuality crisis to.”
“Look, Grian, something was up with that server,” Tango pointed out. “Whatever was going on there wasn’t normal.”
“Point taken,” Grian said. “Why do you care so much?”
“I don’t know if you know how it feels to care so much about a person you’d give your life for them, and then immediately go back to feeling nothing for them, but it’s pretty intense emotional whiplash!” Tango shouted.
“I’ll never be able to look him in the eyes the same way,” Impulse whimpered.
“Personally, I think you two are overreacting,” Grian said. “You don’t see me and Scar acting this way-”
“That’s because you two are like that!” Tango exclaimed. “You’ve been like that since 3rd Life! We-” Tango paused to gesture wildly between him and Impulse- “Are not like that!”
“You just haven’t had the chance to be,” Grian said. “Anyways, I’m off. A base isn’t going to work on itself!”
“What is that even supposed to mean!” Tango shouted as Grian flew away. “That doesn’t answer any questions!”
“You’ll figure it out!” Grian yelled back, before flying out of range.
“Dangit,” Tango sighed. “Are we gay, Impulse?”
“We might be gay.”
