Summary
General William Falkirk is made an offer: surrender to the mercies of the enemy king and his country’s people will be spared. Expecting nothing but brutal execution, William agrees — only to find that King Alexander has no intention of granting death to the man who killed his father.
Stripped of his old life — enslaved and put to gruelling labour — William fights to keep his sense of self and dignity, unable to understand the depths of the powerful young king's unsettling preoccupation with him. And all the while, the Gods of both countries watch on, their eyes trained on the two men; silent in their own, fearful, knowledge of what is to come.
