Levi makes his way deeper into the Wanderbow forest, the dry leaves crunching beneath his feet. He comes to a halt when the familiar scent invades his senses, filling him with hope and longing for the elf. Eren is just a few feet away. He was holding a small rabbit.
“Come out,” Eren says, letting go of the rabbit and returning the little animal to his family. Eren has never paid attention to Levi's presence before; did he notice him?
“Human, you've been stealing glances for weeks now. I have stronger senses than you.” Eren is amused by Levi's musings.
Levi approaches Eren with more rustling of leaves. Eren is adorned with a daffodil flower crown. He has a wonderful scent. Levi wishes to remain by his side, holding his hands. That is all he ever desires. He yearns for it.
“What is your purpose for being here?” Eren ponders sharply.
“Humans are not allowed in the elf forest.” He pushes himself away from the tree he was leaning against, moving closer to the human.
“I mean no harm,” Levi promises. When they are standing arm’s length apart from each other, Levi notices the mesmerising green eyes that could rival the trees during rain. Levi’s fingers ache to trace the tiny freckles scattered across Eren’s cheeks and nose. His mouth twitches. He also wants to trace them with his lips.
“How can I trust you?” Eren furrows his brow and crosses his arm across his chest. He looks ethereal in his silk tunic. His waist-length brown mane flutters and dances with the wind.
“You'd known I was coming here for days; why didn't you inform your leader?” Levi now crosses his arms, challenging the lovely elf. “You know I didn't mean any harm to your kind.”
Eren's cheeks turn pink as he looks away. “Then why are you here?”
“For you,” Levi says honestly, biting his lower lip.
“Human-”
“Please call me Levi.” Levi does not appreciate being addressed in this manner. Especially by his favourite elf.
“What do you expect from me, Levi? If it's for my abilities, forget it. I do not assist humans.” Eren’s pretty face was incensed.
Levi treads with lucidity, “I do not seek your help.”
“Then leave our forest.” When he says it, his voice shakes, and he turns away; Levi swears he saw a hint of sadness in his countenance.
Levi turns and walks away. He knew this wasn’t last the time he was going to see the elf. Next time he will bring gifts. Something the elf can't say no to.
He returns a few days later with a gift for the lovely elf. Levi notices Eren sharpening his arrow while seated on a tree. Levi takes a deep breath, hoping his elf won't shoot him with an arrow.
“Eren,” he says softly. Eren looks down, his eyes wide and bright. There was no hint of surprise. Levi's gullible side wants to believe Eren was expecting him.
“You came back.” Eren asserts. He lands lightly on his feet after leaping from the tree with the grace of a cat. His long wavy hair was wild and billowy. He has a lovely countenance, alluding to an air of winsomeness.
Levi gapes, his lips parting in awe. Mayhap, he wants his hand in marriage. In lieu of a response. Levi kneels and offers him the flower crown he made.
“Lilies.” Eren’s eyes twinkle, and his bijou green eyes lock gaze with Levi’s grey. His breath hitches. Eren accepts the crown and places it on his head, lips moving gently, he susurrates, “My favourite.”
“Sit with me, Levi.” Eren sits on a rock. Eren remembered his name. Levi’s heart leaps with joy. He had to hide behind trees and bushes to eavesdrop on the elves to gather Eren’s name. He will never admit this to Eren.
Eren asks him about his family and what he does in his village as they sit together. Levi speaks of his mother and his village; he works as a swordsman and crafts weapons. He also tells the elf that he crafts swords for their knights. Azure fades, and murkiness replaces it, darkening the sky. Levi says his goodbyes to Eren. They part ways with reluctance.
Levi's lovely elf is eating an apple the next time he greets Eren; his luscious red lips distract Levi's concentration. He trips over a twig and catches himself before he falls. Unwilling to look foolish. In his elf's presence.
Levi kneels again and presents him with a bodkin he had made for Eren. Its handle was carved in the shape of two wings enclosing a lily. Eren exhales, graciously accepting the gift.
During one of Levi's visits, Eren allows him to braid his hair with flowers Levi had picked up for him. He enjoys the feeling of Levi's fingers running through his hair. The gentle caress and Levi's low humming as he braids. Eren's heart no longer feels like his own; it's filled with the thoughts of this handsome human.
As usual, Eren sits by his usual rock, waiting for Levi. He was late today. Eren waits for the whole day, his heart sinking.
Levi appears, but his countenance is dishevelled and sweaty. “What happened?”
“I had to make extra armours for my friend.” Levi peers at him apologetically. Eren’s heart no longer feels like it’s sinking to the bottom of the ocean. His heart is bursting with something akin to adoration for Levi right now. He had run from his village to the forest to spend time with Eren.
Days turn to weeks, and Eren’s favourite thing to look forward to is Levi's visits. And they enjoy each other’s company while hidden behind large trees and vines. Eren was aware of Levi's pursuits. He was courting him. Elves court one another with gifts. If an elf accepts three gifts from a suitor, they are legally married to the individual. Levi has already given Eren two gifts. He was well aware that his elves would want him to marry another elf. However, Levi's presence brings Eren joy and peace. He appreciates the time they spend together. He was aware of the human's attraction to him and had been sneaking into their forest to watch Eren. The thought causes blood to rush to his cheeks, making him feel warm.
He informs his mother about the human. She does not seem to mind. Eren sags in relief and promises to introduce her to Levi.
Levi, on the other hand, does not appear for several weeks. Many suitors in their clan are drawn to Eren's beauty. Eren's father advises him to accept courtship from the son of their elven chief. Eren agrees reluctantly just to appease his parents. While he waited for Levi to arrive. Eren trusts Levi. He will show up. He always did.
After a month, Levi sneaks back into the elven grounds to observe the Wanderbow forest's ethereal elf. He notices a change in his elf’s visage. He appeared to be upset. And it was because another elf was holding his hand.
“Allow me to court you, Eren,” the handsome elf with silver hair says. Levi is certain that he will refuse. To his utter surprise and dismay, Eren nods. His expression was devoid of joy. He was displeased with the proposal. Levi's heart drops and shatters; he will not back down without a fight. He strides forward and grabs Eren's hand. Pulling him away from the silver mane elf.
Levi was here! Eren’s heart gallops. His hand engulfs Levi’s, and he intertwines their fingers together. It feels like he is finally home.
“Human!” spat the handsome elf, his countenance changing into an ugly scowl. How dare he trespass their lands! Gasper unsheathes his sword.
“You need to leave, Gasper,” Eren says, his head held high, his previous countenance changing to a protective stance.
“Do not come any closer,” Eren says, blocking Levi from the elf's view and threatening him with the dagger Levi had given him.
“You defend a human and you're willing to harm me?” Gasper gazes at him incredulously.
“We elves do not marry humans,” He declares emphatically and starts pacing. Eren is aware of this, but he still desires Levi. Gasper comes to a halt and looks into Levi's grey eyes.
“I will not give up on him. I never intend to harm your clan.” Levi spat and tightens his hold, and Eren squeezes back in encouragement.
“I love Eren. I want to be with him. I assure you, I will protect him to the best of my abilities.” Levi declares, his eyes were aglow with fierce protectiveness for the elf. Gasper shakes his head and walks away.
“I will talk to him later.” Eren sighs and turns to face Levi, “I’m sorry, he is the son of our chief I had to accept just to appease my father.”
Levi's hands spring forward on their own and grab Eren's. “I made you wait again. I apologize”, he kneels and presents Eren with a ring, “It took me a month to make this.”
Eren’s eyes glisten with tears, “I knew you would come. I was waiting for you.”
“Do not do things for others, Eren. Live for yourself.” “Do you still want me?” Levi waits for Eren’s response.
Eren nods and extends his hand. Levi kisses the back of his hand after inserting the ring into his ring finger. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” Levi’s third gift. A wedding ring.
When Eren introduced Levi to his parents, he was worried about his father’s reaction. But Grisha takes a liking to Levi’s occupation and requests him to teach him. Carla hugs her son and informs him she has spoken to the chief about this. They welcome Eren’s favourite human into their family.
“He spent a month designing this for me. That's why he was late.” Eren proudly shows his parents his wedding band. His eyes were full of adoration for Levi.
“You are worth it,” Levi whispers in Eren’s ears. Eren flushes pleasantly.
