Strands of Starlight crossover, but you don’t need to have read the books. They’re very obscure and were only printed in the 80s and early 90s. Basically, Elves live among humans, helping and healing with their Goddess-given power. The blood can wake up in normal humans if they are near Elves too long and have a compatible personality with Elves. Their Goddess is called Elthia Calasouive and the Elves can go to her in their mind-starfield.
The plot, basically: The Madrigals are Elves, created when the Earth was created to help humanity, but they’re slowly fading. If they can’t find a way to renew their numbers, they may go extinct forever. Unless humans, with their unique and near-magical ability to change and embrace changes can help them find meaning again.

Now, William never believed them, but it was no coincidence that his eyes fooled him with that exact image as he was on a path across towns.
The flame danced around in the air where he stared, but no heat came from where it was.
Curious, he reached a hand to try and touch it. Only for it to dissipate once he got within distance, flickering to life a few steps away in front of him again.
He narrowed his eyes at it, picking up his bag and huffing. If it wanted to play that way then.
