Chapter Text
“I can’t believe Family Video is closing. I mean, what are we going to do now? The other location isn’t hiring and there’s barely any work nowadays!”
Robin looked around aimlessly to try and think of more things to complain about.
“I.. I have a car to pay off!… Steve are you listening?”
She snapped at Steve who was fixated on a magazine and half paying attention to Robins ranting. He finally looked up with an annoyed look and said,
“Listen Rob, we’ll find another job.. we always do! Also, I’m not surprised this dump is closing. Look around! We’re five hours into our shift and only one person has stopped in.”
Her annoyance with him subsided temporarily and she felt hopeful again.
“Ok, well we only have the rest of this week left and we need to find another job by then!”
“Yeah, ok ok..”
He quickly turned back to his magazine with a obnoxiously loud yawn. Robin rolled her eyes and headed out the front door for a breath of fresh air. The welcome bells jingled behind her as she stepped into the brisk autumn air. Her arms folded in front of her until she noticed the newspaper at the doorstep. She picked it up while keeping her arms close to her sides as to maintain her body heat. While unraveling the paper, she caught a help wanted sign in the margin.
It was too good to be true. She rushed inside to tell Steve the good news holding up the newspaper clutched in her hand.
“Steve! Steve you’ll never believe what I just found.”
He looked up again, this time even more annoyed,
“What, the perfect job for the both of us that’s within 15 miles and pays well?”
“YES!!”
“WHAT?! Actually?!”
“Yes no Steve look at this!!”
She handed forward the newspaper as Steve began to read the fine print of the ad.
“Wow this really is.. perfect!”
“I know, it’s like the gods heard our pleas and gave us a sign!”
She dramatically looked up to the ceiling while holding her hands in a prayer pose. Steve chuckled at the idea of Robin believing in a God. She was probably the least Christian a person could be; and that’s saying something as his boyfriend Eddie worshipped the devil, or at least they joked that he did.
After closing up the store, the two walked out with a sense of hope and faith that things would work out.
Before turning to their separate cars, they turned to each other and Steve said,
“I think this will be a good change, you know? New job, new year, new us.”
The two continuously nodded with a similar smirk as they thought about their future at the pizzeria. Robin responded to his comment,
“Yeah… this is definitely our year, I can just feel it… 1987.”
