Chapter Text

Yae slides open the folding door.

"Miko? Is that you?" A hazy voice calls out softly.

Stepping inside, she sees Ei, lying on the bed, her hair messy and clothes ruffled.

"Mm, who else could it be?" She laughs lightly, walking up to the bed.

Ei grumbles softly, before rubbing her sleep-filled eyes and sitting up.

A sigh. "Is there something you need?"

Now, she has two options: lie about coming here just to see Ei–or change the subject. Since she doesn't want her pride stomped on, she goes with the latter.

Sighing, "The first time we reunite in over five hundred years, and this is how you greet me?" She sulks. "How heartless of you, Ei."

"Miko." Ei sighs again. "Always one for dramatics, aren't you?"

Yae pouts, a forlorn expression forming on her face. "Come on, Ei..." She pleads, willing her ears to puff up, in order to look cuter. "Wouldn't it be nice to go out on a walk together? It's been ages since the last time..."

If puffing her ears up didn't work, she always had another plan: to change into her fox form. Her charm and adorableness would surely be irresistible, especially to Ei. Yae knew that she was a sucker for cute things, and would use it to her advantage if she had to.

Yae glares stubbornly into the Archon's unmoving eyes, refusing to lose this battle. After what seems like an eternity, finally, Ei gives in.

Her expression softens. "Fine."

She places a hand gently on the kitsune's head, and pets her hair, stroking each strand affectionately.

Yae can't help but feel her heart thump rapidly against her ribcage. Ba-dump, ba-dump, ba-dump. Why is this happening now? After how many centuries of longing?

She struggles to fight the rising blush on her cheeks after this new instalment, instead deciding to hide her face with her sleeve. She absolutely could not let her Archon see her like this. Her poor, bruised pride.
