    Isabella Swan – Bella, as she stressed rather often at this point – was new at our school. In a small town like Forks, where the most interesting thing happening in the last year was the local Pumpkin Harvest Ball, she was top news. A girl from Arizona. A big city. She knew the world. She had even seen the sun more than once a month.

    Bella is new in town and just wants to fit in. Claire is amused about everybody, including the vampires, obsessing about the new girl. Which in turn leads to her obsessing about the new girl. Jasper just wants to stop feeling guilty about all the harm he caused.
