Chapter Text
Steven cheerfully carried his ice cream fridge home, pink hair bouncing, ignoring Blue, who was asking why, why was he like this?
Ever since Steven was born, he had people in his head. They weren’t just voices, he could go into what he called the mindscape and see them. There were six. They were named based on their hair colors. There was Blondie, who was really competitive, Green, who he thought of as the strong and silent type, purple, who was a lot like him, funny and lighthearted. There was also Brown, who was really shy and quiet. And…then there was Blue and Grey. Blue was mean and lied a lot, but outside of some light teasing, she did seem to care about him. Finally, there was Grey. (technically, their hair was more white, but eh.)Grey had been locked up by Blue for a while because she said they were dangerous, so Steven had only recently found out about them. Grey was kinda quiet, but seemed nice enough, and was a really good fighter. He’d found that out recently when a corrupted gem attacked and Grey took control. It had been AWESOME.
Steven opened the door to the temple and found it in chaos. Corrupted gem monsters were everywhere.
“Let me?” Grey asked, and in response, Steven let go of his control, letting Grey take over. They immediately punted one of the monsters into a wall, where it poofed…leaving no gem behind. Grey resisted the urge to swear, knowing Steven would never do that. They settled for doing it mentally. “Fuck!”

Blue rolled her eyes. This happened a lot, so it wasn’t a monumental occasion or anything, but still. Steven really thought his powers were activated by eating Cookie Cats? She said as much.
“Steven, you’re being stupid. You’ve eaten Cookie Cats plenty of times before without your powers activating. Plus, that’s just a really stupid idea.” Green lightly smacked her on the head, shooting a gentle glare at her. “Fine, fine. But it’s true. I’m not wrong!” Green sighed.
“Huh!” Purple said. “I thought Steven's idea made sense!” Blue just rolled her eyes again.

Green was proud of Steven. His using the ice cream fridge as a weapon had been smart. Green could appreciate taking advantage of your surroundings to turn the battle in your favor. Unlike what Garnet and Amythyst were doing now, which was throwing Amythyst at whatever was coming at them. She couldn’t judge them too harshly, however, as there wasn’t much else they could do.
