Work Text:
Akito wants to scream. Or tear his notebook apart. Or throw his pencil. He does none of those because a) it's 6 am and b) both of those are important to him and unfortunately cost more money than he is willing to throw away.
Instead he lets his head drop onto the table with a thud and just stays there for a while. He loves his job, but fuck! A deadline is coming up and he can't seem to create any interesting character designs for a protagonist.
He was asked to make the design “tell a story” while still allowing for “Player self insert”. He hates the combination with a passion. Who needs self insert anyway? But, well, it's his job, so what's he supposed to do about it? Sometimes he wishes he chose to do something else, still, when he sees the characters he created come to life he feels proud. It makes his work feel worth it. BUT NOT WHEN HE CAN'T CREATE ANYTHING! He's very tempted to just hand in nothing.
He sits up straight again and stares down at what he already drew. Some of the designs told a story but were too detailed for a self insert character, while others were perfect for self insert but too bland. He drops his head again. He wouldn't be surprised if he got a concussion, considering how often he had already done that.
He hears a chuckle and feels a hand brush through his hair. It eases the tension building up in him a little and he tilts his head to peer at his husband, who is wearing an amused smile. Akito narrows his eyes. How dare he think this is funny? Before he can complain, the hand leaves his head to take his notebook from him, pulling a whine out of him. Rui just gives an airy laugh at his antics and walks across the room to put the notebook away. Akito can't help but glare. He still needs that and Rui knows that damn well! He complains about it, but allows Rui to pull him up by his hand anyways.
His husband by now knows better than to take it to heart.
Rui drops his hand soon after and he pouts. Rui keeps walking though and he doesn’t know what the other wants from him, so Akito follows him like a lost duckling. It better be important or so help him. They get to their front door and Rui gestures for him to put on shoes, to which Akito narrows his eyes and crosses his arms. He can’t go out, he needs to finish his work.
Before he can turn around and leave, he can feel Rui’s arms wrap around his waist and he is promptly lifted up. He wishes he could say he didn't squeal loudly. He flails a little before stilling when he notices that he could very much hurt himself by falling from this height. Rui is laughing again and Akito lightly hits him in the shoulder. It's not funny! This marriage is not healthy for his heart and he should get out before it kills him, hmph!
Rui, as if Akito isn't in life threatening danger, carries him to his bike, placing him on it, before sitting down in front of him. Akito does not in fact want to die, so he wraps his arms around Rui tightly, despite! the fact!! that he should get back to work!!!
Akito doesn't know where Rui is taking him, but it takes a while before Rui tells him that they're almost there. And despite his complaints and the fact that he was just kidnapped by his own husband , honestly the betrayal , he plants his customary kiss between Rui’s shoulder blades.
When they come to a stop Akito can't help but stare. It's an enormous flower field, full of all kinds of colors and Rui is walking into it, turning around and gesturing for him to follow. He doesn't do that, he was kidnapped for God's sake! He doesn't have any shoes with him and as much as he may like flowers and Rui, he doesn't want to go barefoot.
He can see Rui sigh. He's probably spinning his eyes at him but Akito doesn't care. If Rui is gonna interrupt his work, Akito might as well cause problems for Rui the whole time.
“Come. You'll like it~” Rui has made his way back, stupid grin in place again. “I don't have shoes, you weirdo.” He can see Rui’s grin widen a bit and worries. That cannot mean anything good- aaaaaand he's being carried again. At least this time he didn't squeal.
However, this time Rui is carrying him at his side, like he's an oversized baby, meaning he needs to use more of his own strength to stay up. It's exhausting, damnit! And then when they're in the middle of the flower field, Rui, like the villain he is, holds his arms to his side in a T-pose and now Akito has to hold his own weight. The absolute state of this marriage! Can't even trust his own husband anymore, ridiculous. Rui for his part is doing nothing, just cackling at Akito’s misfortune, how dare !
Akito tries his best, but sooner or later (read: after 1 minute) he gives up and tentatively steps onto the ground. Good news is that it's not just dirt, there's also grass. The bad news is that, because of how early it is, the grass is kinda wet.
Rui is still laughing. Akito wants to hit him. Or kiss him, he looks pretty when he's laughing and Akito is a weak man, okay? He does neither. Instead he stands on Rui’s shoes, drawing out a surprised yelp. Revenge!
“Rui. What the hell are we doing here at 6 in the morning? ” Sure, he had already been awake, but that was different. Rui gives him a peck on his nose before answering. “You were getting frustrated, so I decided it's time for a change of scenery.” Followed by another peck on his nose. Akito pouts. If he was gonna kidnap him, Rui could at least have the decency of kissing him properly. Rui’s right though. He hadn't really been getting anywhere and he does feel a bit better now, less agitated. He sighs and nods. “Okay, okay. You were right-” Rui beams at him and it makes him smile. “-but what are we gonna do now? In case you haven't noticed I'm not a fan of walking around here barefoot.”
“Well I did give you the chance to put on shoes, but you didn't~” he’s going to wipe that smug look off of Rui’s face if it's the last thing he does. He doesn't have very many options though, so all he really does is give his husband a kiss. A soft smile is still better than all that smugness. Rui hums in approval and hugs him. It's nice and compared to the cool morning air, Akito prefers this a lot more.
Rui starts humming a tune he can't name, but definitely recognizes and begins to sway. Akito sighs happily and closes his eyes. This is okay.
They stay there for a little bit longer and Akito basks in the warmth, both from the sun and from Rui. Between the two he would always choose Rui’s, but who's asking? The warmth and the light swaying motion makes him drowsy and he yawns. He can feel Rui's quiet laughter on his skin, tickling him a bit. He blinks his eyes open and glances at Rui. Akito can't see his face, but the other seems relaxed. He's almost tempted to just stay here. He can't though, whether he wants to or not, it's already been a while since they left and he really does need to finish his work.
With slight disappointment he places a kiss next to Rui’s ear and tells him that it's time to go. “Five more minutes.” Rui mumbles back and who would Akito be to deny him that request? It's not like he wants to go either.
