Race

Summary:

A race around the world is usually a good way to get everyone together.

Notes:

Writer's Month Day 4 word prompt: melody

And since that's the prompt, it seems fitting to list "The Young and the Restless" by Tide Lines as the song playing in the background that sort of inspired this but mostly I think might have ended up a Wally song in my general writing playlist. Also it's been stuck in my head for a week.

Work Text:

The ocean stretched out in front of them, nothing but water as far as any of them could see. Nothing but space to run.

Ace's eyes gleamed with excitement as Wally met them. Bart looked focused on Wally's other side, and Avery was almost vibrating in anticipation next to Ace.

Jesse tapped Wally on the shoulder and got into starting position between Wally and Bart.

"I'm too old for this," Max grumbled as Jay dragged him to the line Wally had drawn in the sand.

"You are not," Jay said. "Is Barry-"

"Not late!" Barry rushed over with Jai and Irey who immediately jumped on Wally.

"Ready?" Wally asked. "First one back here wins, no time travelling."

"Can we go yet?" Bart asked.

"You say it, Bart," Jesse said.

"Go!"

Wally shot forward, everyone so close behind him.

Water flew up in his wake and lightning cackled, reaching out and singing as it connected to everyone else's.

Wally laughed, a melody of everyone's joy rushing through him as they took off racing, and mostly running together.
