Chapter Text
There have been some odd and inconsistent reports coming out. Some college girls had been reported missing by their friends. It was very unlike them to miss their classes or not turn in their assignments. Most of them have turned back up, a few days later, claiming they were at some party and simply lost track of time. There were still 3 girls missing, but after the rest turned up the department feels it is only a matter of time the rest do. Deb went to her brother’s lab to vent her frustrations about them since they leave her at a loss of what to do. She has a bad feeling about it. The Dark passenger also seemed intrigued by the possibilities.
Deb is usually right about these things, so I start an investigation of my own based on what they had to go on. The first girl reported missing, Cassie, was not much a partier like most of the other girls. If she was with the other girls, Deb may be right. Did she really go of her own free will? If so, what would make her suddenly change her habits? While pondering these questions, and where else to start looking, there she was. Cassie was casually walking into a liquor store. She looked to be on a mission to grab her wanted items and get out of there. Following her seemed like the best option to get more answers a possibility find the other girls. And if the instincts were correct, something really worth this work for the Dark passenger.
If he finds the proof he needs, it may be his time to start hunting. While trailing Cassie, Dexter noticed a woman sitting too motionlessly against the wall of an alley. As he got closer, he realized he recognized her as one of the missing girls, Dayna. She didn’t appear to be moving even with the bustle of life around her. When he got close enough, Dexter walked over asking “Are you okay?” while still keeping his eye on Cassie. When he approached her and she still hadn’t moved, he knelt down to check for a pulse. Her neck was cool to the touch and there was nothing. Meanwhile, Cassie was making a right turn ahead and would lose her if he didn’t follow now.
Dexter decided to follow Cassie and come back to investigate it when he figured out where she was going. And based on the temperature of Dayna, she was undisturbed for a while, he would have time to follow Cassie and come back to investigate more thoroughly Dayna's condition and call it in. He got up to follow Cassie and make the same turn she did. Ahead, he could see her walking into a mansion like she owned the place. As he got closer there was fairly loud music playing. So Dexter crept up to one of the large windows in the front to take a peek at what was going on inside.
Inside Cassie was handing the bottle of liquor to black haired man with blue eyes and an average height and build. Although he was of average build, Dexter could tell the man was strong based on the hard-earned muscles he could see since the man was walking around without a shirt on. He could tell by the way the man had just poured his drink that they were going to stay put for at least a little while. Dexter left the window and went back to check out Dayna. As he found the alley Dayna was sitting in, he pulled his rubber gloves he always kept in his pocket. She had a sun dress on, so he could see there was no defensive wounds on her legs and arms. When he looked at her hands, still nothing looked out of the ordinary. Her face held slightly smudged makeup which would be consistent with attending a party. Then he noticed the side of her neck. It looked like she had been bit by some kind of animal. But he couldn't think of any kind of animal in the area that could do this. Realizing he could learn nothing more without disturbing the scene, he called it in and headed back the direction of the mansion.
When he went back up to the window to check what was going on, the girls looked to be dancing to the song playing while the man was watching and drinking. Dexter noticed a Cafe across the street and went in and got a coffee and a sandwich and settled in to watch the house for when they left. Around an hour later on his second cup of coffee, he saw the man exit the front door and head down the street. By the time he paid and walked out of the Cafe, he could see the man turning to walk into a bar. Walking into the bar a few minutes later to avoid the suspicion that he was in fact following him, he sat a few stools away and ordered a beer.
He observed the man while nursing his beer. He was a charming and good-looking guy. He could almost understand why those girls would want to spend time with him. Something about the way they just dropped everything was not right though. He learned while listening, his name was Damon. He had come from Virginia and was just vacationing in the area. If that was so, he'd been down here for a while as, the disappearances span about 3-4 weeks at this point. As Dexter a 2nd beer, Damon ignored a phone call that annoyed him. About halfway through his beer, another man came in walking straight to Damon. Without turning, Damon says "Hello brother" in a tone that implies he was equally annoyed by his appearance and wants to annoy him in turn.
Damon's brother was clearly annoyed as he wanted him to be, and said "Be serious. There are a ton of cops around the corner. There was a girl found dead." He then lowered his voice and said something to Damon. "Of course not Stefan, I didn't live this long by being stupid." Stefan looked exasperated by his brother's nonchalant attitude of the situation. He seemed worried about what he wanted to do next. Between the brother’s behavior Dexter was pretty sure Damon was guilty of something worthy of a visit from his Dark passenger. While Dexter was deciding to dig in deeper into Damon and Stefan’s past something weird happened.
There was this bright, golden light that appeared between Damon’s seat and the few seats down to Dexter’s. Both having a curious minds got closer to it to observe and figure out what this was. There seemed to be a slight pull to it, similar to a magnet. Dexter and the brother’s both moved toward it. Apparently, if you get too close to it, whatever is the vicinity of it gets drawn in. The next thing they know, they are in some kind of bunker. While looking around there were a lot of people in there. Many seemed to be a similar level of confused as Dexter and the brothers. Many of them were various levels of injured.
There were 2 other tall men that seemed to be in charge here. They were walking through the crowd, appearing to check people over and dividing the people who needed more medical attention than the others who were find or only had minor injuries. A young man shockingly seemed to be healing them somehow with a light touch to the forehead. When the 2 other men got over to them, them seemed as confused to see them as they were to be there. The shorter one yelled for someone named “Jack” in a rich, baritone voice. Jack, the young healer, came over in question “Yes Dean?” “Do you recognize them?” Dean asked him. Jack looked them over and answered “No.” Another man walked over that had a bit of a blank look on his face and touched 2 fingers to each of our foreheads and looked at Dean and answered, “They are from a different world from this one and the one we came through.” In a very deep, monotone voice.
