Chapter Text

Sanity was one of the strongest hell-bound demons out there. She was known for her massive body count which increased almost every year. She even became a guard for the prince that ruled the imbalanced nation. One day she was on duty, to guard the infamous divide. Making sure that no one would get desperate and try to go onto the other side. Sure there was a long way to go but people down below can get desperate for some sort of salvation. This was their punishment for trying to live their life in hell's debt. Most of the people there lived their life on earth. Living dangerous lives or one that turned them for the worst. Sanity did make exceptions for the ones who deserved a second chance at life, being able to see through their lives and giving them a chance of living a better life than the first. Mostly to the ones who were homeless or didn't really have a choice in their past lives. In all reality most angels or the ones who could fly with no bounds were born there, rarely anyone that was a human in their past life.

There was more than one god where they lived. Though down in the underworld only the strongest warriors survived. Mainly the prince or the son of hades. He was a man who could shake someone to their very core with just a simple word. Not like Sanity was scared of his threats, but needless to say she just didn't take him as lightly as she would with others. Today however was a special day, one that somehow changed everything for her. She was the only one on duty since there was a meeting with everyone who was causing too much chaos. Everyone who was doing so would be executed for their offenses. Just because they're dead doesn't mean that there aren't rules to follow. Truly it's no different than the living world, it's just more free in a twisted sense.

Sanity was bored out of her mind so it was no surprise that was on her phone, checking up on the news to see what was happening. Then she saw someone near the border. To her surprise the was an angel there, she seemed unhappy. It was a strange predicament to see an angel so upset. Most of them were happy-go-lucky or just didn't care about anyone but themselves. The person finally came to the border and sat near a rock, folding her wings back comfortably, there she was just looking downcast upon the world. Probably thinking about how to fall correctly or something like that. Sanity went up to her and took in her looks. The person was obviously a woman just by her completion alone, her fair skin matched well with her light brown hair, which was tied into a single braid. Her eyes were a fine baby blue color, ones that could hypnotize anyone if you stare long enough. She wore a simple white dress that went down to her knees, along with a pair of sandals to go nicely with it all.

"I don't think you're supposed to be here. Run along now won't you?" Sanity said staying on her side of the border.

"I'm not doing any harm am I?"

"I mean no, but still, you're not supposed to be here."

"I don't belong anywhere so the only place I truly belong is the divide. I guess I don't belong here either. I guess it's for the best anyway. Sorry for disturbing you."

Before she could get up Sanity stopped her.

"Wait, you seem troubled. Do you wanna talk about it?"

"It all depends, are you willing to listen to me?"

"Of course."

The person took in a heavy breath before going along with what she was going to say.

"I think I disappoint the gods above. It feels like no matter what I do I just keep on making the same mistakes over and over again like some idiot."

As the girl went on Santity tried to take a look at her past life. She saw the stranger's past life as if she belonged in the underworld. The girl was looked down on by everyone in her past life. Mostly from her parents, it seemed. When she was in high school she was taunted by multiple people, ones that Sanity recognized as the common sluts or entertainers down low. Then she saw how she died, which wasn't the prettiest sight. The stranger prayed for mercy before jumping off a high balcony, ending her life in a snap. When she was finished Sanity's tough expression softened. Felt bad for what happened to her, but she wanted to die, there was nothing she could do about it, no matter how hard she tried.

"You've had a tough life, and somehow you're above all the rest, gotta stay I'm surprised."

"Wait what- How did you know that?!" The stranger said out of surprise.

"Just look at you, it's practically written all over you. That's probably why you've been spared from the gods, lucky you, I guess." Sanity declared honestly not caring about how else she could've died.

The other was speechless, she turned around and saw the person's figure, it all made sense now. Her baby blue eyes widened a bit as she realized what kind of demon she was speaking to. She was speaking to a warrior, one who's trained for anything, especially how to kill someone with such ease in her steps. Sanity had her dark red hair down, it was probably dyed like that, either that or stained with the blood of the countless victims. She wore a grey t-shirt with ripped blue jeans, over the shirt was a black hoodie that had no zipper on it. Sanity also had curved horns that leaned back but never curled like a ram. She didn't know if she could trust her, but at the same time she just spilled her heart out to a complete stranger so this could be expected.

"You're one of those demons aren't you?"

"Rude, but yes I can read people's past lives if they have it."

"Sorry, I didn't mean to come off as rude."

"That's what they all say, princess."

"That last thing I am is a princess."

"I know but the name suits you well."

"Yeah right."

"Heh, I'm digging the attitude there. What's your name?"

"I'm Dex, what about you?"

"Just call me Sanity."

She was surprised that someone from the heavens would ever talk to someone like her. She liked rolling heads and all but this was the only person's head that will stay in contact. Her wings were a beautiful shade of white. While her conception of wings was just black with no light in them. Most angels would be too scared to even speak to people like her or just feel like they're too good to even speak to the ground dwellers. Sanity guessed that it was just a one-time thing. Surely enough Dex would just leave her after they spoke.

Oh, how wrong she was to assume one-time conversations will just stop there?
