Work Text:
"Aww..." Everyone in the room shot heart eyes at the newborn baby. Plop. A nurse fainted. No one cared. The doctor hands Wonwoo the infant and the latter holds it in his arms, patting and rubbing circles onto its back. With an exhausted smile and dying strength, he says:
"Chan."
~
"Chan!" Wonwoo screams at Mingyu—his husband and baby daddy—as he almost forgets about their child. "Unbelievable," Wonwoo scoffs. "How could you forget your. own. baby?!" He adds, putting emphasis on the last 3 words.
"Maybe I forg- Ow! What was that for?"
"You know what that was for."
"Alright, but that hurt." Mingyu says as he put Chan into the carseat, buckling him up while the 3-month old sucks on his little baby fingers. He squeals, slapping Mingyu in the process.
"Deserved." Wonwoo comments as he gets into the passenger seat, angrily closing the car door. While he places the baby bag they use on his lap, Mingyu gets into the driver's seat.
"Why are you so bulky?"
"I've been hitting the gym before work. For you, baby."
"Get out."
"No." He answers with a smirk as he places a kiss on his husband's lips and starts the car.
Wonwoo has to admit, he may or may not be tomato red right now.
"You're red." Fuck.
"It's hot." He lies, turning up the AC. Why did I do that? I'm freezing. Wonwoo curses himself, shaking his head as he reaches back to tickle little Chan."Why do you keep getting him all these dinosaur stuff?" He asks, eyebrows knitted together as he analyzes his child's look right now. Green dinosaur onesie, dinosaur themed cradle and green bib. Very green indeed.
"It just fits him, and they were 70% off, what a steal right?" Mingyu confesses as he taps his fingers on the steering wheel to the beat of the song playing on the radio.
Wonwoo just nods, turning his head to look out the window. They're heading to Jeonghan's to visit their 6-month old son. He remembers it all too well. Being insanely stressed while pregnant because Jisoo, Jeonghan's husband, was screaming and in pain in front of his pickle cereal.
[FLASHBACK]
Jeonghan and Jisoo came over for the sake of coming over, with Jisoo carrying their son in his womb. He could give birth any moment now which resulted in Wonwoo side-eyeing him at every given moment.
Wonwoo takes a seat and munches on his pickles, cereal and milk all in one bowl.
Everyone follows, and they all sit down on the wooden table to have a civilized conversation.
-
"BARNEY IS BETTER THAN DORA!" Jisoo argues.
"ALL BARNEY DOES IS I LOVE YOU- ALL THAT BARNEY SHIT! DORA MAKES YOU WANT TO JOURNEY AROUND THE WORLD-" Wonwoo shouts back, aggressively placing down his bowl onto the table.
"DORA STARES AT YOU AND FORCES YOU TO VOY- VOYA- what was it again, babe?-"
"Baby, v-"
"IT'S VOYAGE DUMBASS! AND DORA HAS PATIENCE TO WAI-"
"AAAAAAAAAA!!!" Jisoo screams in pain, clutching his stomach while his deemed nemesis continues to crunch on his food.
"Are you alright? Baby?"
"I'm abOUT TO RELEASE A HUMAN BEING?!" He screeches, still suffering. Poor him. Poor him.
"Deserved, bitch."
[FLASHBACK END]
"Did you perhaps... fart?" Mingyu asks, scrunching up his nose– struggling to focus on the road. "It stinks in here." He tries to speak, inserting the air freshener in the ventilation.
"I don't have anything to fart out."
Giggle. Squeal.
"Ah."
"Ah."
~
"Jeonghan! Jisoo!" Mingyu exclaims while flashing his signature smile. "It's been a while since we've visited.. Right, darling?"
"Mm." Wonwoo lazily responds, lightly bouncing Chan in his arms up and down. He gets the baby bottle filled with formula and feeds the infant. He's not side-eyeing anyone—because Jisoo isn't here yet—, if you were curious.
Mingyu clears his throat. "So.. where is the rest of your family?"
He gets answered.
Jisoo and their baby, Hansol, fall down the stairs. The former gets more pain in his ass, it hitting each step. Hansol, on the other hand, is just laughing and smiling as if his father—the person that kept him in his womb for nine hellish months—didn't just potentially break the bones in his buttocks.
Wonwoo holds in a snort. (a/n - what a bitch really)
Mingyu barely makes a step to help but is stopped by Jeonghan's hand signal not to.
Jisoo quickly gets up however, Jeonghan sprinting to aid him. Hansol /figuratively/ teleports from Jisoo's to Jeonghan's arms.
"Are you hurt? Is Hansol hurt?" Jeonghan says in a panicked tone, not knowing where to place his free hand.
"I am hurt. My ass feels like I went 62 rounds or even more. Hansol seems," Jisoo glances at his baby, fighting the urge to squint while Wonwoo side-eyes him. The Hansol in question is giggling and attempting to reach out to Chan who's sleeping peacefully. (a/n - g4u i havent slept in a day) "Hansol seems alright." He ends, slowly blinking.
They let their children sit on the animal-decorated highchairs, them constantly playing with each other's hands. The parents, however, just continue to feast and bask in the silence and tension surrounding them.

[chan's 1st bday]
"Happy birthday to you.." Everyone sings while clapping their hands to the beat. It's not like they're singing to anyone, Chan is literally dead asleep in his Uncle Seungcheol's arms.
There aren't any candles on the once again dinosaur-themed cake since they figured out it could be a hazard to the children.
Wails suddenly bounce off the walls, mixed reactions gathering from the attendees. Turns out, Seunghun–Jihoon and Seungcheol's son–released some inner substances.
Seungcheol's eyes widen, panicking due to not knowing where to place Chan. Mingyu offers his arms, the older placing the baby in the younger's hold, displaying a thankful yet apologetic look. He runs to Seunghun and Jihoon, rocking his child side to side.
Well, Mingyu almost dropped Chan. Almost, only because of Sieun, bless her heart, who was there to assist while handing Chan over.
Fortunately, the 1 year-old still continues his journey in dreamland, having a few movements here and there.
Wonwoo whisper-shouts, "What the fuck?!" He makes random and very mad looking hand gestures, lightly shoving Mingyu.
At the end of it, everybody simply goes on with singing happy birthday.

[chan's 1st words]
Wonwoo's playing with Chan in the living room, sitting on a mat. They brought out his favorite toys, an assorted group of small dinosaurs.
Mingyu's out working right now, fulfilling the duties of a good parent. He got a job only a few weeks ago for a corporation centered on buildings.
"What is this?" Wonwoo coos, making his voice smaller, holding a doll in his hands.
Chan, being a little baby, just produces normal baby responses– gibberish.
Now placing a dinosaur in his hold, "Uh huh! Now what's this?"
"D-dinosaur!" Chan exclaims. It's still quite inaudible, but he's getting there. He clasps his hands together and steals another toy dinosaur from the mat, repeating "Dinosaur!" as he throws it towards his dad.
Wonwoo doesn't know how to feel.

[chan's 1st day of school]
Mingyu feels like crying. He's driving, Wonwoo in the passenger seat and Chan in the back. It's his first ever day at school, and while he seems to be flowing with excitement, his parents are keeping in their tears.
He's blabbering in the backseat, talking about how happy he is and how much he loves his uniform.
Wonwoo's just continously nodding and giving short responses, obvious that he's feeling overwhelmed with emotions right now.
Meanwhile, his husband steals glances from time to time, you know, just to be safe.
Suddenly, the car is filled with subtle sniffles and joyful yelps as they reach closer to the school.
Mingyu parks his car just in front of the entrance, but not quite there in order not to block anything. He hovers his finger over the button to unlock all the doors and clicks it, Chan rushing to get out of the car.
"Hey! Calm down!" Wonwoo quickly says, eyes wide as saucers, exiting the car too. Mingyu follows suit, them holding Chan's hands as they enter the school. Hansol's already there, waving enthusiastically when he notices Chan. The latter has a big smile painted on his face right now, it's adorable.
"Bye Dada! Bye Papa!" He exclaims, giving his parents kisses on their cheeks before he runs to Hansol.
Mingyu and Wonwoo simply smile, watching as their child and his friend go further into the campus.
They return to the car, and it's a tear fest 2 seconds in.

[chan's "going through it"]
The door shuts as fast as it opens. Chan is 13 years old now, experiencing the oh-so-terrible average, adolescent teen stage.
Wonwoo just knocked on his door to ask if he wants to eat, leading to all this.
[FLASHBACK]
"Do you think he's getting out of his room soon?" Mingyu wonders, crunching on the chips, sat across his husband.
"I don't know." The other responds, snatching the chip bag away from Mingyu. "I'm not even sure if he's like this because he saw his crush hanging out with this guy or if he's.." he chews, "going through it."
Mingyu rests his chin on the back of his hand, elbow propped onto the table. "Should we check on him?" He speaks up, preparing to get off his chair.
"I'll do it." The former says, firmly at that. Abandoning the bag of junk food and his seat soon after, he heads to Chan's room. The younger only mutters a short "good luck" before Wonwoo sets on his mission.
All Mingyu hears over the crunching of the chips is the loud bang from the door, and Wonwoo's frustrated sigh.

[chan's wedding]
The sky is clear, its canvas painted with fluffy clouds. Sun lighting up each and every corner, shadows from tree trunks settling on the ground. It's undoubtedly fitting for the occasion.
Chairs draped with white covers design the flowy grass and it's rows are perfectly organized. Person by person, invitee by invitee. There's an elegant arch by the altar, adding to the welcoming enviroment.
Mingyu and Wonwoo accompany Chan as he walks down the carpeted aisle. They have their arms linked, striding down the path with poise.
Teary grins are exchanged. Then they let go, the parents making their way back to their seats. Making small conversations, gestures or expressions while their son—who they're oh-so-very-proud of—get united, married to the love of his life.
"I now pronounce you,"
They've seen him grow. They've exchanged arguments, moments, memories. And this isn't the end of it.
"husbands, by law,"
Even, a new chapter started in their lives. Introducing new characters by the second.
"by spirit,"
They loved, cared, appreciated and made memories together.
"and by love."
And that's all that matters.
