Chapter Text

Dear Mattholomule Matty,

It’s quiet here in the human realm. Also, I’m in the human realm. I still haven’t really processed it. But, yeah. It’s quiet here. I mean, I have Luz, Willow, Hunter, and Amity, but, sometimes I feel kinda left out. They’re all older than me, and, to be honest, I’m kind of a 5th wheel. Luz and Amity have their whole thing going, and I’m pretty sure Hunter and Willow do too. Not entirely sure, so don’t tell anyone else. They’re all super nice to me, though. It might sound crazy, but I actually kinda miss being nagged every day. You’re really the only person that does that for me, and without you here, everyone’s just so nice. Too nice. Anyways, I know you’ll probably never get this, I just needed a place to vent. Hope things are going well in the boiling isles.

Miss you,

Gus

Gus put his pen down and sighed. There was no way that would ever make it to Mattholomule. He was really, truly, alone.

Willow giggled. “And who won?” She asked.

“Me,” Hunter and Amity both said at the same time.

I got the key, Blight. I won.” Hunter looked over at Amity.

“You may have gotten the key, but I still beat your ass in that fight.”

“But I got the key!”

“Amity’s pretty strong, Hunter. Just accept that, maybe , she won.” Luz chimed in.

“Biased much?” Hunter rolled his eyes.

They must be talking about eclipse lake, Gus thought to himself. He had already heard the story a billion times from Luz, who heard it from Amity.

He went to go put his paper on a desk, so he wouldn’t lose it, but something else on the desk caught his eye. A tiny jar labeled “paper clips”.

Gus’ eyes widened. They were real! They might not have been treasure, but he still needed to tell Matty. He took a random notebook, ripped out a piece of paper, grabbed the nearest pen, and wrote another letter.

Dear Matty,

Remember that day when we met, in the HAS? Well, I got some news for you. You probably remember the paper clorp, that human treasure that I showed everyone. You stood up and told me it wasn’t a treasure. Well, it may not be a treasure, but it sure is real! It’s not actually called a paper clorp, it’s called a paper clip! Which makes much more sense, because it clips paper. If WHEN I get back to the demon realm, you HAVE to make me a member of the HAS again, Mr. president. I’ll be an expert, having been in the human realm!

Bye for now,

Gus

Gus dropped the pen and shook his hand. He wrote fast. He was excited, and had to get it all onto a piece of paper. Sometimes, that meant sacrificing the wellbeing of his hand. If Matty were here, he would tell him that he “ could write fast, no biggie. Maybe it’s just a you problem.” Gus laughed to himself. Matty always liked to pick fights.

Without Gus there, who would Mattholomule argue with?
