Work Text:
He was startled awake. For a moment, Kenny was relieved that it was all just a dream, but he still felt shaken. In the dark room, save for his green alien night light, the little boy contemplated going into his parent’s room to seek comfort.
After swallowing his pride, he decided to leave his room.
Grabbing his glow-in-the-dark Goop Squishy, he got up out of his bed and headed for the door. He padded through the hallway, stopping at the door of his parent’s bedroom.
He hesitated. Kenny felt a bit guilty for having to interrupt their sleep but he was too scared to go back to sleep. So, he creaked the door open.
“Dads, I had a nightmare.” He said.
Rook and Ben looked back at their son with wide eyes, having been caught in a… compromising position. The Revonnahgander has his husband pinned to the bed, both of them devoid of clothes save for their underwear and their modesty further covered by the blankets.
Their son looked at them questioningly, “What are you guys doing?”
“Uhh…” Rook’s eyes drifted to Ben, not knowing how to answer.
Ben was sweating bullets. He needed to think of a lie and think real fast, and the first thing he could come up with was, “Twister!”
“Twister?”
“Yes! Twister.” The Revonnahgander quickly agreed. He slipped out of the sheets and grabbed the pants he had discarded onto the floor earlier, swiftly putting them on. “Now how about you go back to bed, young one?” He gently guided his child to go back to his room, but Kenny stood his ground.
“But I had a nightmare, I can’t sleep.”
Rook sighed but there wasn’t any real bitterness behind it, “What if I tell you one of my plumber stories, will that make you feel better?”
Kenny bit his lip in contemplation, then nodded. Rook escorted his son back to his room, tucked him back into bed, and started telling him tales of his two dads going on adventures when they were younger. Soon, the young boy drifted comfortably to sleep.
When he was sure Kenny wasn’t going to wake up, Rook went back to his room, making sure to lock the door this time.
~9 Months Later~
Ben had given birth to a beautiful baby girl. She has Rook’s eyes, the omnitrix wielder thought as he cooed at her. The creak of the door alerted him that someone was coming into the room. Kenny ran right toward the hospital bed, Rook trailing behind him.
“Kenny, meet your little sister Renee.” Ben said softly, both to not disturb the baby peacefully sleeping in his arms and also from exhaustion.
Kenny’s face was unreadable as he examined his new baby sister. His hand easily dwarfed hers as he laid a finger into her open hand, and with the instinct of any human(ish) baby, her hand started to curl around it.
Rook and Ben awaited with baited breath whether their son would take well with the new addition to the family.
“Wait a minute…” said Kenny incredulously, realization suddenly dawning on him, “You two weren’t playing Twister!”
