"Shenhe-jie, I'm home!" The small creak of a door and the gentle call from her brother awoke Shenhe from her momentary slumber. The television in front of her was still live, playing some variety show with a weird game she didn't understand. It was too bright however, causing her to rub her eyes and shift from the laying position she'd be sleeping in for the past... Shenhe tapped around her seat on the sofa in search of her mobile, turning it on to see the time was 6:32PM.
School had ended at 3:20, and she had arrived home at 4:30 (detention), stopped being on her phone (due to the constant messages and not knowing how to turn them off) at around 5:30
Finished 'making' dinner 6:03. So it had been half an hour. She layed her on the head rest of their old sofa, looking up at the ceiling.
"Jiejie?" Footsteps on the qingce bamboo floor came closer and there was an unexpected yet welcomed weight on the sofa next to her. Chongyun sighed at the feeling of the back rest on his head before sliding to his left a little so he could lay his head on Shenhe's shoulder.
"Hi."
"Hello."
There was a momentary silence between the two of them. Their medium liyuen house (with a few modern aspects) was usually pretty quiet seeing that they were the only ones living there at the moment. Their parents, (shenhe's brother-in law and sister technically speaking) on a joint business trip. The two parents were the louder of the bunch, leaving Shenhe and Chongyun in silence when they weren't around. Not that they minded. Nor did it affect their relationship in anyway, because being quiet doesn't necessarily mean that you avoided one another. Though their loud relatives did happen check up on them from one time to another. They were satisfied with the few talkative interactions, watching horror movies together and teaching the older of the two how to cook. They were dear to each other and that's what mattered. It was peaceful. Besides, they were both quite introverted.
"There's food in the kitchen if you want it." Shenhe stretched her arms up in the air, attempting to crack her arms and back, before gently knocking Chongyun's head feeling the clips in his hair, resulting in a snicker from the other.
"What is it?"
Shenhe pushes herself up from the cushions, rolling her head to crack her neck before turning to her brother and letting her hand out, implying that he take it.
"Microwaveable pizza."
"Pfft."
Chongyun pulled him self up with his sisters hand and then pushed Shenhe's back towards the kitchen as Shenhe muses about her multiple attempts to make Cheese Toasties. Though very few, loud moments like these made Shenhe's heart warm. She really enjoyed the company of her brother due to their common interests. It's a plus that they were open to her coming into the family a few years ago. It really made her happy.
"Jie? Shenhe-jie!"
"Huh?"
"Let's make omlettes! The pizza is cold by now. I don't understand why you didn't eat with out me."
Chongyun shoved a spatula in her hands and stood beside her by the stove. His cheeks were red despite his face being pale and his baby blue eyebrows furrowed due to the concentration on his face. Shenhe mentally 'awww'd.
"Oh Chongyun?"
"Yeah?"
"How do you make notifications less loud?"
"Like, mute?"
"...Maybe? I don't know much about this Internet stuff."
"Oh you want to mute the Discord! Okay I can teach you all about that but let's eat first!"
"Mmhm!"
"Oh how was your first day of school as a senior."
