Chapter 1: Late Pick-Up

Chapter Text

Aster Arcadia watched the road, his boredom growing almost unbearable.

He shouldered his backpack off of his back before leaning against the flagpole of his school and pulling the Happy Ranchers Scarle had given him before walking home with Aia out of his bag.

He popped one into his mouth without checking the flavor.

It tasted like medicine .

Aster full-body shuddered before accidentally swallowing the candy.

He hunched over coughing, not noticing the sudden increasing amount of wind.

The sound of wings flapping overhead caused the boy to look up.

"Selen?"

A huge dragon with purple scales and bright eyes stared down at him, struggling to find a place to land. She settled with knocking a tree or two over in the school's parking lot.

Right before Aster's eyes, the dragon morphed into one of his housemates, Selen Tatsuki.

"Yo, Aster!" She greeted, dusting off her leather jacket. "Uki called and said he got stuck in traffic, so you're flying with me! Even better, right?"

Aster looked past her, focusing on the partially ruined vegetation. "Maybe if you weren't the more destructive option." He said with a sigh.

Selen only laughed, crouching down again and taking on dragon form once more. "Hop on!"

Aster bent over to snatch his backpack up off the floor and mounted Selen as safely as he could.

Before checking in to make sure Aster was seated properly, Selen had already taken off. The ground looked much different up high on a dragon's back.

Aster pushed a stray strand of yellow hair behind his ear as he tried to identify popular locations.

Diamond City Creek, Kindred Meals, Anycolor Shopping District, Mother's Winery..

"So!" Selen began slowly. "How was school? Anyone I gotta beat up?"

On all of his drives home with Uki, he had never been asked that.

It was usually along the lines of-

"Did you have fun? – Didn't think so."

"Have they taught you how to do taxes yet? – Didn't think so either~"

Followed by some grumbling about the education system. - In that order.

"Nope." Aster replied. "I leave that kind of stuff to Aia."

"Oh?" Selen sounded a little disappointed. "Well- Oh fuck! There's Uki!"

Aster scanned the ground in Selen's field of vision, quickly spotting Uki's license plate among all the other cars that had been completely stopped in their tracks due to some accident.

uwuki , with star designs and purple lines- added on by yours truly and his star child.

"Should we pick him up? Can we actually?"

Aster could almost sense the mischievous smirk on Selen's face.

"Who's to say we can't at least try?"

Aster held on tight as Selen dove at the car, grabbing it with her tail and letting out a high cackle at the sound of Uki's screaming.

Aster turned himself around carefully before leaning over Selen's side, attempting to see Uki better. "Hi, Uki!" He yelled as loud as he could with a bright smile on his face. "We're flying! Isn't it great?"

Uki waved back, seemingly calmed by the fact that Selen had at least gotten the job done. "Not if she drops me!" Selen loosened her grip on Uki's car. "Hell no, bitch! Fuuuuck. Youuuu."

"Uki! You can fly too, though?" Selen said with a cruel giggle. "Or maybe we should reevaluate that?"

"You are not reevaluating shiiiit."

The three of them burst out laughing.

"Uki, climb up so we can take a picture for Shu!" Aster called. Uki paused, then swung his car door open and floated towards him, leaving a cloud of purple sparkles in his wake.

"Do not, I repeat, do not mention how stupid this looks, Aster. I will disown you." Uki threatened as he landed in front of the giggling mess.

"Sorry, sorry!" Aster said, struggling to regain his composure. "The picture!"

Uki whipped out his phone, which was as cutely decorated as his license plate.

Uki and Aster threw up peace signs and shiny smiles, making sure to lean out of the way so Selen could make it into the frame as well.

"Aaand sent!"

Just as he was finishing his lunch break, Shu Yamino heard his phone notification sound go off. He pulled his flip phone out of his pants pocket and saw a text from Uki.

Picked up Aster from school.

Along with a picture of them flying on Selen's back. The girl loved finding even the smallest excuses to morph into her dragon form, didn't she?

Shu sighed fondly at the sight, almost wishing he had been there.

Almost.

Don't hit any birds. He sent back, folding his phone and stuffing it back into his pocket.

He could send one of his shikigami later to make sure they all got home in one piece.
