“He deserves it,” Kuwabara said. Kurama, inscrutable, noncommittal, and careful to dodge Kuwabara’s family after being told that a strong sixth sense ran in it, didn’t answer immediately.
“I absolutely owe him this, not just because he almost died, but because I almost died giving him my spirit energy!”
“But that was your choice,” said Kurama.
“No, it wasn’t!” Kuwabara argued, as best as he could without being heard outside his room. This was the third day since they’d returned from the Maze Castle. He’d woken up on Kurama’s back, then directed him and Hiei to drop Urameshi here at home. Hiei hadn’t been back, but Botan, Keiko, and Kurama kept dropping in.
“If I’m the only one who has spirit energy to save his life with, and that’s the only way he’ll live, it’s NOT a choice, and I deserve revenge. He deserves me getting revenge.”
Kurama didn’t answer immediately, and Kuwabara got heated.
“He deserves it for dying on me,” he added. “Let him know how it feels!”
That got him raised eyebrows, and that made Kuwabara hopeful.
“It’ll be fun,” Kuwabara wheedled, and Kurama cracked a smile. “We just have to tell him that Iwamoto got to them before we–”
“Wait,” Kurama interrupted. “There’s no need to do so much work. All we have to do is avoid answering him when he asks. Say nothing about it at all. Trust me, no story you spin will be so effective as the worst thing he can imagine.”
Kuwabara’s eyes widened, and his mouth did, too, into a vicious grin.
