When James found out that he had been appointed quidditch captain during the summer, he had been absolutely ecstatic. He couldn’t wait to lead Gryffindor to another quidditch cup victory. Of course, he knew it was not going to be easy but he was confident in his abilities. Besides, he knew that he was always a natural leader and people generally tended to listen to him so he never really put much thought to it. This was until he was cornered on the quidditch pitch by half of his team after practice on the day before the last Hogsmeade weekend for the year.
“Come on, Potter…”
“Can’t you just postpone the session tomorrow?”
“Please, we’ll do anything.”
“I already told you guys, I can’t just cancel it. We need to win against Hufflepuff in the upcoming game if we were to have a shot at winning the quidditch cup so we need all the practice we can get.” James told the Gryffindor quidditch team as he ran a hand over his face with a tired sigh.
The grumbling grew louder as the team was clearly desperate to grab the last chance they had to spend the weekend at Hogsmeade with the rest of their classmates before they needed to start revising for their exams.
James sighed once more before he ran his eyes across the sea of hopeful and pleading faces. Out of the corner of his eyes, he saw an abrupt movement where he saw Marlene nudge James’s best mate and boyfriend, Sirius Black, sharply with her elbow while staring at him and tilting her head encouragingly.
At this, Sirius closed his eyes and resignedly stepped forward.
“C’mon James, just let them have this. You can always just add another session next week or something…” Sirius began, finally lifting his eyes to meet James’s, while donning a pleading look.
“Nope, your puppy-dog eyes are definitely NOT going to work this time, Pads.” James interrupted him before looking away.
Of course, his body conveniently decided to contradict him right then and there as he felt the beginning of a blush slowly climb its way up to his face. James quickly ran his hand through his hair to hide this fact.
Merlin, curse Sirius and his stupidly cute pout and wide grey eyes.
“We’re having practice tomorrow and that’s final.” James said firmly, looking anywhere but his annoying boyfriend’s face.
This was met by loud groans from the team but James decided that as a good leader, he must be firm and disciplined. So, James merely nodded to himself approvingly before walking away. Or at least that was the intention before someone simply threw himself at James, and clung to his back like a koala. A huge, Sirius-shaped koala.
James staggered to regain his footing as Sirius wrapped his arms around James’s shoulders and his legs around his torso even tighter, making James flush even more.
“Geroff!” James exclaimed and if anyone ever dared to claim that he, THE James Potter, squeaked at this moment, he’d vehemently deny such atrocious accusations. He quickly tried to untangle Sirius’s limbs from his shoulders and torso but he froze when he felt Sirius’s breath on his neck.
“C’mon, Jamie! Just postpone it already.” Sirius whispered into his ear while nudging him with his forehead.
“I…” James felt his mouth dry up. James swallowed and gave himself a mental shake, determined to stand his ground. He was just about to refuse when Sirius suddenly pressed his lips to his neck with a whine.
“Fine, whatever. No practice tomorrow.” James said with a hoarse voice, just loud enough for the rest of the team to hear.
He didn’t bother turning to face them as he said this and he didn’t need to because he heard their acknowledgement in the form of loud cheers of “Thanks, Captain!” and “You’re the best!”.
After a while, the noise died down as the team made their way to the dressing room to shower and change out of their sweaty quidditch gears, leaving James standing on the quidditch pitch with Sirius still clinging to him.
James was trying to even his breathing and make his blush die down when he heard a soft chuckle right beside his ear.
“Get off me!” James pulled Sirius off of him before turning to him with a mock glare.
Sirius was still chuckling at him while he looked at James fondly.
“So, what did they bribe you with?” James asked with narrowed eyes.
“I’ve no idea what you’re talking about, Jamie.” Sirius said with an all too innocent expression. While Sirius was MUCH better at acting than James can ever hope to be, James already saw this expression on Sirius’s face too many times whenever he tried to charm professors into letting them off the hook to ever find it remotely believable.
“Sure you don’t.” James rolled his eyes, as he tried to look annoyed. Of course, he failed as his lips started twitching upwards in amusement.
“They said they’d give me a one year supply of anything from Honeydukes.” Sirius admitted, his eyes still dancing with mirth.
At this, James gasped with an expression of mock hurt. “I can’t believe this! How could you betray me? And for chocolate of all things?”
“Oh come on, I didn’t betray you. The way I see it, it’s a win-win scenario. They get to enjoy their Hogsmeade weekend, I get to see you act all cute and flustered, and you get to share with my unlimited supply of candy.” Sirius defended himself.
“You are one devious bastard, Sirius Black.” James told him before he suddenly grabbed the front of his jersey and pressed a kiss to his mouth, making Sirius squeak in surprise.
James pulled away slightly and smugly whispered, “Who’s acting all cute and flustered now?”, before closing the gap between them once more with a smirk on his lips.
Sirius flushed at this but remained silent. Instead, he merely deepened the kiss as he wrapped his arms around James’s neck to pull him closer. He slowly moved a hand higher and ran his fingers through James’s ruffled hair, before pulling slightly, causing James to release an involuntary moan.
“Come on.” Sirius said breathily as he pulled away and grabbed James by the arm before dragging him towards their dormitory.
Later that night, James found himself laying on Sirius’s bed with a feeling of content as he wrapped his arms around Sirius, who had his head on James’s bare chest. They were on the brink of sleep when a thought occurred to James.
Sirius was right. This was a win-win scenario, indeed.
James shifted slightly to press a soft kiss on Sirius’s forehead before he drifted off to sleep with a small smile on his face.
