Work Text:

Yosuke was never that much of a heavy drinker, but every so often, he found himself browsing the liquor aisle at Junes, leaving with the odd bottle or two. He never took it overboard, but today, he found himself nursing a wicked Sunday hangover, lying in his bed without a shift at Junes to worry himself with. He found himself buried in a bunch of blankets, covering his face from the crispy autumn morning. Yosuke couldn’t bother to check the clock as he laid in bed, barely conscious. It took a while for the young man to notice his partner was absent from her usual position next to him. His groggy mind thought nothing of her absence. She must be in the shower or something, he thought. Yosuke couldn’t hear the shower at all, but again, his mind was throbbing too hard to notice. One thing he could notice was a scent in the air of his small apartment. It took a while for the scent to register in his mind, but eventually, his hungover brain figured out the smell was someone cooking eggs.

Oh, Chie must be cooking some breakfast, Yosuke thought. He began fantasizing about the bountiful harvest awaiting him as soon as he chose to rise from his bed. His mind began to slowly begin to fall back into a wistful sleep, before he began to really think about the situation before him.

Wait, he thought, Chie is cooking!

That was the last thought entering his mind, as the young man soon bolted from his resting place. He found his legs carrying him as swiftly as possible towards the kitchen, worried about the state of whatever Chie is really cooking. Yosuke’s mind was racing as he ran down the hallway. My head is in no mood for Mystery Food X, let alone my stomach, he thought to himself. In his current state, he’d doubt his weakened stomach could hold it down. The only thing worse than the food would be Chie’s reaction to throwing it up. Yosuke can handle a hangover, but his girlfriend being upset is one thing he’d rather not deal with at all. The young man finally made his way to the kitchen, standing at the doorway, when the sight before his eyes shocked him to his very core.

Chie stood in front of the stove, stirring away at a pan full of scrambled eggs. The young officer was shocked at her boyfriend’s quick entrance, but she still decided to greet Yosuke with a warm smile. “Good morning,” she said, “nothing says “hangover cure” like some breakfast, yeah?” She looked back down at her work, throwing some salt and pepper into the pan.

Yosuke’s eyes shot down to the pan on the stove, where the eggs seemed……perfectly fine. His eyes went back up to his girlfriend, then back down to the pan. At this point, his brain was far more scrambled than the eggs. His mouth tried to articulate his feelings, but all he could muster was a meek, “Chie…you’re cooking?”

The young woman seemed to grasp why her boyfriend was so shocked. She set the stove to simmer, before turning to face Yosuke, still standing shocked in the doorway. “H-hey! I’m trying to do something nice here,” she argued. “You’re laid up in bed after drinking all night, and I’m trying to do my “duty” as a girlfriend to cook you something nice.” A moody pout grew on Chie’s face. “You’d really think I’d mess up something as simple as eggs, huh?” She felt her eyes begin to moisten, truly dejected.

Guilt began to seep into his mind, feeling instantly bad for doubting his partner. He always joked about the “duties” each of them had in their relationship, but that was all it was: one of Yosuke’s many dumb jokes. “Chie…I-I…uhh,” Yousuke sputtered out, rubbing the back of his pounding head. “I didn’t mean to make you upset.” He finally made his way out of the doorway into the kitchen. His nose caught the scent of the eggs in full, and he immediately knew that these eggs were cooked to absolute perfection. He threw his arms around his girlfriend, shocking her. He began his apology, “I’m so sorry, Chie. We’ve been together for so long,” he sighed, guilt stricken. “I should have more faith in you.” His grip on his girlfriend only grew stronger, not wanting to let her go. “Thank you so much,” he whispered into her ear, “I’m sure these eggs are going to be delicious.”

His sudden apology shocked Chie. For a brief moment, she contemplated tossing her boyfriend down to the ground, but Chie realized quickly Yosuke’s apology was genuine. At that thought, all she could do was chuckle and accept his apology. “Geez, I love you too, doofus,” she cooed, jostling his hair as he clung to her. “You must have been super worried to jolt out of bed like that.” She finally turned off the stove top and pried her boyfriend off her side. Chie pulled open the cabinet, producing two matching plates.

Yosuke responded with a light chuckle, “Like I said, I should have more faith in you.” He felt the pounding headache continue to pester him. “Do we have any headache medicine?” he asked.

“Medicine cabinet, bottom shelf,” she responded. Chie began scooping the scrambled substance onto the two plates, throwing a bit more pepper into the food. “I think scrambled eggs are easy enough, even for me.” She chuckled, “Now, if Yukiko were trying to cook these, then we’d have a problem.”

“You’re right,” he said, smiling his signature stupid grin, “Thanks babe.” He turned around and headed towards the bathroom, hoping to soothe his pain. Just before he exited the door, Yosuke felt a strong hand grip his shoulder, whipping his whole body around. Just before he could voice a protest, his girlfriend planted a quick, but loving, kiss on his cheek. He felt his face redden, still wondering how she could still make him blush after all these years. His face was pulled closer to Chie’s, and her voice made its way into his ear.

“Just don’t ask how cooking bacon went,” she whispered with a sly grin on her face. His eyes shot over to the trashcan, where a light scent of burnt meat could be smelt. All Yosuke could do was laugh, plant a deeper kiss onto Chie’s lips, and make his way to the bathroom. I guess this headache was worth it, he thought.

Notes:

The idea for this came to me while I was at work. Very quick read. I wrote a good portion of this while indulging in my own drinking, but I made sure to edit and proofread before I posted.

Yosuke and Chie are probably my favorite pairing in the whole Persona series, as it makes too much sense for them to end up together. The constant arguing always gave me old married couple vibes, and there are nowhere near enough stories covering the two as a couple, so I decided to add my own little story to the pile.

I hope you enjoyed it, and any feedback is greatly appreciated.
