the earth's emergency contact

Summary:

seokjin has never thought about needing to be yoongi's emergency contact... until today.

Notes:

by law, i have to give these characters a new side story at least once every few months. sorry, i don't make the rules!

ruby, i know this isn't what you asked for but i hope you forgive me in the end <3

these characters are part of an existing storyline so if you'd like to learn more about them and their little inside jokes and how they fell in love, it's very recommended (but not necessary) to do so <3

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“I bought your favorite flavor and everything! I even bought sprinkles!” Yoongi says out loud. His phone is on speaker, projecting through the system in his car. Seokjin, his boyfriend of just over five years, is on the other end of the line.

“Mhm, and what’s my favorite flavor, love?”

“Strawberry!” Yoongi says with full confidence. He’s so happy to know so much about his boyfriend, even the little things like this.

Seokjin laughs. Yoongi can practically see the smile on his face. “And let me guess, you bought chocolate for yourself?”

“You’re so smart,” he teases.

“I know you so well,” he chuckles. “How far away are you?”

Yoongi had a few errands to run today after work so he hasn’t seen Seokjin since he left their apartment this morning. Seokjin barely remembers Yoongi leaving since it was so early. Although he’s exhausted, Yoongi still wants to spend some quality time with his boyfriend.

Hence, the ice cream sitting in his passenger seat. He stopped by the grocery store on the way home, buying small pints of their favorite flavors. He saw the heart-shaped sprinkles and knew he had to buy them, too.

Yoongi has always been the more romantic of the two. He adores Seokjin. Seokjin is his soulmate, the person he loves most in this world. He never wants his boyfriend to forget that.

It’s nearing 8:00. Yoongi is tired but filled with so much excitement knowing he’ll see his lover very soon. “About ten minutes? Traffic is a bit messy right now but I only have two more exits until ours.”

“Okay, well, drive safely and I’ll see you in ten minutes.”

“Maybe fifteen!” Yoongi says, referring back to the amount of traffic he’s facing.

Seokjin laughs. “Maybe fifteen!”

“I love you,” Yoongi says. Never end a phone call without saying ‘I love you’. Yoongi has always stuck by that rule.

Seokjin’s voice is so sweet. It’s far sweeter than the ice cream Yoongi just purchased. Ever since the beginning, Seokjin has always been so kind and caring towards Yoongi.

He has never tried to change Yoongi, make him into something that he’s not. He accepts him for who he is. Seokjin admires Yoongi’s personality, the way he loves life and loves the people around him. He loves even when he shouldn’t. His heart is so pure.

Yoongi is everything an Earth should be.

“I love you, too, Yoongi,” Jin says, hanging up the phone call for them.

Ten minutes.

It takes ten minutes (maybe fifteen) to get from where Yoongi was to where Seokjin is waiting for him at home.

Of those ten, Yoongi only remembers four.

The remaining six are a blur.

Seokjin hasn’t necessarily counted the minutes but he knows it’s been longer than ten minutes. In fact, it’s been longer than fifteen minutes. Yoongi did say the traffic was a bit backed up, though, so he’s probably just stuck in it.

Yoongi is good at keeping Seokjin informed. All day long, he’s texted his boyfriend, giving him updates of when he thinks he’ll be home. He knew it was going to be a busy day but he still kept Seokjin in the loop.

If Yoongi was going to be later than fifteen minutes, he would’ve called Seokjin again. He would’ve made a point to say something.

Twenty minutes go by and Seokjin finds himself opening their front door, looking left and right, hoping he’ll see his boyfriend coming down the hall. But Yoongi is nowhere to be found.

When thirty minutes pass, Seokjin walks down to the parking garage, hoping to find Yoongi unloading his car. Maybe he had too many things and didn’t want to make more than one trip. He’s been known to try and carry more than he’s capable, which inevitably takes him longer than multiple trips would.

But Yoongi’s parking spot is empty. He parks in the same place every day. It’s practically his own reserved spot by now.

Having left his phone upstairs, Seokjin retreats back to their apartment unit. He goes for his phone, quickly (but still relatively calmly) dialing Yoongi’s number. It rings but Yoongi never picks up.

Seokjin calls again.

Still, no answer.

Again.

Nothing.

Again.

Still nothing.

Seokjin has never been one to jump to conclusions but in this case, he has to. He’s fearing the worst. Yoongi always answers his phone. Unless he’s busy, Yoongi always answers. He wouldn’t miss four calls from his boyfriend. That’s not who Yoongi is.

Seokjin’s heart begins to race. It’s nearing forty minutes since he last heard from Yoongi. That’s thirty minutes past when he was supposed to be here. Traffic in Seoul may be bad but it’s never this bad. He only had two exits to make it through. He should be here.

In a hurry, Seokjin calls Jimin. He’s the only person that comes to mind. Maybe he can reach Yoongi. Maybe it’s just something with Seokjin’s phone. That’s what he tells himself in an attempt to stop worrying so much.

Luckily, Jimin answers on the second ring. “Hello?”

“Jimin! Have you heard from Yoongi in the past thirty minutes?”

“No?” He sounds fairly confused. “Should I have?”

Seokjin is pacing around their apartment. His breathing is becoming unsteady. He doesn’t know what to do. “No, I don’t know. I talked to him thirty minutes ago and he was only ten minutes away but now he’s not answering his phone and I’m starting to worry.”

“Where was he?”

“He was driving home. He was only two exits away. That shouldn’t take forty five minutes, even with traffic. He never ignores my phone calls. Never.”

Seokjin can hear the slight change in Jimin’s voice. He’s trying to remain calm, for Seokjin’s sake, but with how worried Seokjin is, Jimin can’t help but feel the same way. “Okay, okay. Calm down, just breathe. Let me try calling him, okay? I’ll call you right back or if he answers, I’ll have him call you, yeah?”

“Yeah. Yeah, okay.”

Silence has never been louder than it is right now.

Seokjin is staring at his phone, praying for a phone call from Yoongi to appear. If it’s Yoongi that calls him, he’ll know everything is okay. If it’s Jimin, he’ll know something is wrong.

His heart nearly shatters when Jimin’s name appears on the screen. Seokjin answers faster than he ever has before. “Did you reach him?”

“No, it just went to voicemail.”

“Oh my god.” Seokjin feels sick to his stomach. It’s now been over an hour and Yoongi still isn’t home. He’s not answering his phone and he was driving when Seokjin last talked to him. Only the worst thoughts come to mind.

“Do you think…?” Jimin can’t finish the sentence but Seokjin already knows what he’s referring to.

He takes a deep breath. “I-I don’t know. I don’t want to even think about that but I don’t know.”

Out of nowhere, Seokjin’s phone begins to ring. It interrupts his conversation with Jimin. He quickly pulls the phone away from his ear, hoping to see Yoongi’s name displayed on his phone but instead, it’s Yoongi’s mother.

“Jimin, Yoongi’s mother is calling me.”

“His mother?”

“I don’t know what I’m supposed to tell her. What if she’s looking for him? How do I tell her that I have no idea where he is or what’s happened to him?”

“It’ll be okay, Jin. Just talk to her. Figure it out together and let me know if you need me, okay?”

Seokjin nods himself, despite Jimin’s inability to see him. “Okay.”

He hangs up his call with Jimin, taking a deep breath before he answers the call from Yoongi’s mother. Over the years, they’ve formed a good relationship with one another. She calls to check in on him from time-to-time, not even telling Yoongi she’s done so.

Seokjin also checks in on her. Both of Yoongi’s parents have become an important part of Seokjin’s life. He considers them to be his own family, someone he can confide in, someone he can always go to for help.

“Hello?” He answers the call with a shaky voice.

“Oh, Seokjin dear. I’m so glad you picked up.”

He can already tell by the sound of her voice. Something is wrong. “What is it? What’s wrong?”

“Seokjin, we just received a call from the hospital in Seoul. Yoongi was in an accident.” Seokjin feels the entire room begin to spin. His worst fear is coming true. “They must’ve called us because we’re his parents, his next of kin, but we’re not in Seoul right now. He’s stable for now, that’s what they told me, but they’re not sure when he’s going to wake up.”

He stumbles over his words, “w-wake up? He’s not awake?”

“He fell unconscious during the accident. They said he should be alright in a few hours but anything could happen.”

“Are you coming back to Seoul?” If they’re already on their way back, he’ll meet them at the hospital. He’s already moving around their apartment, gathering everything that he needs, as well as a change of clothes for Yoongi. He doesn’t want to wait any longer. He has to see him now.

Yoongi’s mother is surprisingly calm, given the circumstances. She must believe everything will be okay or she’s just incredibly good at hiding her sorrow. “If we need to, we will. I was hoping you would go there, be with him. If we need to travel, we will but if you think he’ll be alright without us, we’ll stay here.”

Seokjin pauses. He stops moving entirely. “Yoongi loves you both. He’d want you there.”

“Yes, dear, but he loves you far more. We’re only a phone call away. I just don’t want him to be alone. I wanted the hospital to call you but she said I would need to call you myself.”

“I’ll go there now. I’ll tell you everything I can, whatever new information they give me.”

“Thank you, sweetheart.” She sniffles. It’s the first sign of weakness, of heartbreak. Yoongi is her little boy, her child. This can’t be easy for her. “I will send you everything that the nurse told me. That way, you'll know where to go to find him.”

Seokjin frantically begins to move again, already shoving a foot into one of his shoes. “Thank you.”

On the way to the hospital, Seokjin calls Jimin and informs him of what’s happened. He can barely get the words out but Jimin puts it together. Yoongi needs someone by his side but right now, so does Seokjin. He doesn’t need to be alone in this.

Jimin agrees to meet him at the hospital, which Seokjin is thankful for. There’s no telling what he’s about to walk into. Yoongi could be in any kind of shape. Seokjin may need someone there for support.

At the hospital, Seokjin doesn’t wait for Jimin. If he’s able to visit Yoongi now, he’ll text Jimin where he’s at and how to get to him. Seokjin is holding himself together by a mere paper clip. He’s going to fall apart sooner rather than later.

He practically runs up to the front desk, not caring who sees him. “Min Yoongi, he was brought here within the last hour.” That seems like enough information for the woman to go on.

She clicks through her computer, stressing Seokjin out even more. Why can’t she just find his name faster? “Ah, yes. He was an accident, correct?”

“Yes,” Seokjin says, swallowing the lump in his throat.

From behind him, a hand appears on his shoulder. He looks to his left and sees Jimin, comfort and support in his eyes. “Hey,” he mumbles.

“He’s upstairs, room 39C. Is it just the two of you?”

“Yes. Just us.”

She nods, reaching for a piece of paper. From it, she removes two stickers, both labeled VISITOR. The woman hands them to Seokjin and Jimin, who then immediately head for the elevators.

When the doors close, Seokjin feels his own heart stop. His eyes burn, begging to let tears fall. Jimin reaches out, seeing the pain on his face. “It’ll be okay. If we can see him, that’s a good sign. It means he’s okay.”

“That doesn’t mean he’s going to stay okay. Anything could happen, Jimin!”

“Then, let’s just think positively, okay? Come on, do you know anyone stronger than Yoongi? I don’t. He’s the strongest person I’ve ever met.”

Seokjin nods his head. “I can’t lose him.”

“You won’t.”

The elevator dings, signaling they’ve reached Floor C. They step out into the hallway, following the signs towards room 39. The door is closed, giving Seokjin just one more second to catch his breath before he sees Yoongi.

He has no idea what his boyfriend is going to look like. He has no information about the accident. He has no information about what Yoongi went through. All he knows is that Yoongi is unconscious and probably very banged up. It’s not a sight he’s looking forward to.

Slowly, Seokjin turns the handle, opening the door to Yoongi’s room. What he sees breaks his heart. Yoongi has never looked so lifeless before. He has an IV in his arm, machines beeping all around him. There’s small cuts across his face as well as red marks, which will likely turn into bruises.

Seokjin walks into the room, standing at Yoongi’s bedside. Jimin closes the door, giving the trio some privacy. He also slides one of the guest chairs over to Seokjin, knowing he’ll want to be as close to Yoongi as possible.

As soon as Seokjin sits down, he grabs Yoongi’s hand, holding it tight. It’s only now that he notices the cast on his leg, just barely hidden under the covers. Tears immediately begin to free fall down his face.

“I’m so sorry, Yoongi,” he whispers. “I’m so sorry this happened to you.”

He feels silly to expect a response from his boyfriend.

“He’ll be okay, Jin. I promise.”

Seokjin looks up at Jimin, eyes glazed over. “Please, don’t make promises you can’t keep, Jimin.”

“Should I call his parents for you? Let them know how he is?”

“Please.”

Jimin has only been in the room for a few minutes but it’s clear Seokjin needs time alone. Jimin has a great relationship with Yoongi’s parents, having known their son for years, so he doesn’t mind calling them. He’ll probably give them a better description of Yoongi, anyway.

Seokjin might become too emotional. He wouldn’t be able to say more than a few words to Yoongi’s parents without crying.

When Jimin leaves, the room is eerily silent. The only nose that fills the space is the sound of hospital machines beeping. It’s a sound that’ll haunt Seokjin forever.

He squeezes Yoongi’s hand, pressing a kiss to the top of it. “Baby, you have to wake up. You hear me? You can’t stay asleep forever. We haven’t had our ice cream yet. You were so excited about that, remember? Ice cream, sprinkles, and all the cuddling you could ever imagine. You just have to wake up and I’ll give you all of that.”

Seokjin reaches down into the bag that he brought with him. He pulls out Yoongi’s clean sweatshirt, one that he loves to wear.

“All you have to do is wake up and we can put this comfy sweatshirt on you instead of this hospital gown. You would like that, yeah?”

Again, he waits for a response that will never come.

“I brought some of your favorite stationary things, too. I thought you’d like to have them while you heal, while they take care of you.”

From behind him, the door to Yoongi’s room opens but instead of Jimin, it’s a nurse that steps in. She has a smile on her face but it falls just slightly when she sees Seokjin. “Oh, hello. Sorry, I didn’t know anyone was in here.”

“It’s okay. I’m Jin, Yoongi is my boyfriend.”

“You just got here?” He nods. “Has anyone told you what happened?” He shakes his head. She softly smiles, exhaling. “He was in a car accident as he was getting off an exit. Someone came from the opposite direction, hitting the side of his vehicle. The collision broke his left leg, as well as two of his ribs. He has some minor cuts and bruises, too. The healing process will take time but he should make a full recovery.”

“Is he going to wake up?” The dreaded question.

“He should. The accident is what rendered him unconscious but the pain medication we’ve given him has also put him to sleep. He should wake up in a few hours. You don’t need to worry, I promise.”

Seokjin nods. Finally, he thinks, information. Jimin should’ve been here so that he could relay this information back to Yoongi’s family. He’ll tell him everything once he comes back into the room.

The nurse motions towards Yoongi, “if you don’t mind, I’m just going to check his vitals and his heart, make sure everything is okay.”

He mumbles some form of a yes before stepping out of the way. It only takes her a minute to check on Yoongi. “He’s okay?” he asks.

“He’s doing well, given everything.”

“Thank you… for helping him. He is my best friend. I don’t know what I’d do without him.”

She smiles, making her way towards the door. “He’s very lucky to have you. I’ll be back later to check on him again.”

“Thank you,” he repeats.

Two hours later, Yoongi is still in the same condition he was when Seokjin and Jimin arrived. He hasn’t changed at all. If anything, it seems he’s only fallen into a deeper slumber. Seokjin has remained at his side while Jimin sits in the other chair across the room.

Seokjin has only left the room once and that was thirty minutes ago. He decided that Yoongi needed something to comfort him when he wakes up, something small and cuddly to hold.

Plus, he just needed a moment to breathe. He loves Yoongi, he never wants to be separated from him, especially in a time like this but if he stayed in that room any longer, his own heart might've exploded. He might've needed a room, himself.

So, he visited the hospital gift shop, overwhelmed by the amount of flowers and sympathy cards. It’s a gift shop but it’s still so incredibly depressing. Ultimately, he settled on a small plush toy.

A small plush frog, to be exact.

It just felt like the right thing to buy.

Ever since he returned to Yoongi’s room, he’s kept it beside the boy, hoping it’ll somehow wake him up. The power of frogs and soulmates and all those things that Yoongi would probably say in a moment like this.

Seokjin rests his head on the empty space of Yoongi’s bed, still holding his boyfriend’s hand. He moves his thumb back and forth across Yoongi’s hand, doing everything he can think of to bring him back.

It’s just the medicine keeping him asleep. That’s what Seokjin keeps telling himself.

“He loves you more than anything, you know that?” Jimin asks from across the room.

Seokjin lifts his head. “What?”

“He loves you. More than anything or anyone else in this world. I’ve known Yoongi a long time. I’ve never seen him love someone in the way that he loves you.”

Seokjin looks back at his boyfriend, still sleeping peacefully. He smiles, “I love him, too. So much.”

“You know, at first, I wasn’t sure it would work out between you two.”

“Why?”

Jimin shrugs. “I don’t know. He was so set on the idea of soulmates and I could tell you weren’t. Honestly, I still don’t think you believe in soulmates.”

“I believe in him.”

“Yeah, that’s what he always tells me.”

“If soulmates are real, if they do exist, he’s the closest I’ve ever been to one.”

Jimin smiles. “You should hear the plans he has for you two. A big house, kids, pets, growing old together. You’d think after five years, he’d stop telling me about it, he’d lose all of his excitement, even just by a fraction or two, but he hasn’t. He’s still just as excited about you and your life together as he was on that day you met.”

Seokjin remembers that day so fondly. Yoongi ran up to him, barely able to say more than five words to him. Jimin had to do most of the talking. Realistically, Seokjin never planned on seeing Yoongi again. He thought it was just a random occurrence, something he could look back on and laugh about.

Seokjin never thought Yoongi would become the love of his life, the person he wants to spend forever with.

“He’s something special. Always has been.”

“Can you imagine? Little Yoongi’s running around your home one day?”

Seokjin actually laughs. “It’d be one positive and cheerful home, that’s for sure. But I wouldn’t want it any other way.”

“We’ve been friends for a few years, you and me, so maybe this will mean something to you and maybe it won’t but either way, I’m glad he has you. I know how much you love him. I see it in your eyes when you talk about him, when you look at him, when someone brings him up. It’s real, genuine love. It can’t ever be replicated.”

“He’s the Earth.”

Jimin adds, “and you’re the Moon. Yeah, Yoongi has told me that at least a million times over the course of your relationship. I never really understood it but it seems to mean a lot to him.”

“The Earth and the Moon are soulmates,” Seokjin says. He can practically hear Yoongi’s voice in his mind, saying it over and over and over again.

“Ah, so he does believe in soulmates!” Jimin says in a teasing manner, referring to the elder boy.

Seokjin looks down at Yoongi, holding his hand. He smiles, feeling his heart grow bigger and bigger. Yoongi’s warmth and his kindness and his joy, even in this state, still radiates off of him. He’s the embodiment of love.

“If it’s with Yoongi, yeah. I do.”

Another hour passes. The nurse returns to check on Yoongi. He’s still the same as he was before. He’s still going to wake up. Seokjin has to tell himself that, otherwise he’ll break down.

Yoongi’s parents call, only to see if anything has changed. Jimin takes the call, updating them on what he can. Yoongi is going to wake up. He’s going to be okay. He’s going to make it through this.

Another hour goes by. It’s already well past midnight. Jimin left thirty minutes ago but only because he has to be at work tomorrow morning. He’ll check in when he wakes up, see if there’s any new information.

Seokjin doesn’t plan on leaving until Yoongi is at his side. He’ll stay here for as long as he has to. He won’t leave Yoongi alone. He won’t abandon him.

He rests his head on the side of Yoongi’s mattress, never letting go of his hand. With it being so late and given all that he’s been through tonight, mentally and emotionally, Seokjin is exhausted. He dozes off, falling in and out of sleep.

Around 2:00 in the morning, Seokjin begins to stir but only because of the sudden motion around him. His eyes slowly flutter open and his body begins to wake up even further when he hears the softest, “Jinnie?”

Seokjin sits up, unsure if he’s dreaming or not. He sees Yoongi. Yoongi is awake. His eyes are open. There’s the softest smile on his face. Holy shit. Yoongi is awake.

“Hey. Hey, Yoon. You’re awake.”

“What happened?”

He tries to hold himself together, stop himself from crying but it’s too late. He’s already crying. “Baby, you were in an accident. You don’t remember?”

“Not really.” His voice is so weak. It’s hoarse. He can barely get one or two words out without sounding like he’s smoked a pack a day for twenty years. Seokjin smiles through his tears, fighting his emotions. Yoongi carefully lifts his hand, weakly wiping the tears from his cheeks. “Don’t cry.”

He forces a smile, “I’m not.”

“You are.”

“It’s okay. They’re happy tears. I’m just glad you’re awake.”

“Me, too.”

Seokjin presses a kiss to the back of Yoongi’s hand, now holding it with both of his own. “I was so scared that I was going to lose you. I thought… I thought that…”

“I’m okay.” Yoongi is trying to comfort his boyfriend. He's doing the best that he can.

“Jimin was here earlier.”

“He was?”

Seokjin nods. He explains everything they’ve been through today. “When you didn’t show up, I started to get really worried. I called Jimin, hoping he’d heard from you since you weren’t answering my phone calls. Even he tried to call you but you didn't answer."

"I don't know where my phone is," Yoongi suddenly says.

His boyfriend half-smiles. The whereabouts of Yoongi's phone is probably the least important thing right now. He continues his story, "then, your parents called me. They said the hospital called to tell them you'd been admitted. They’re your emergency contact since they’re your next of kin.”

“Oh.”

“So your mother asked me to come here, to be with you.”

“Thank you for coming,” he says with a shy smile.

Seokjin just barely manages a laugh. He leans forward in his seat, just far enough to gently kiss Yoongi’s forehead. When he pulls back, he pauses just a few inches in front of his boyfriend’s face. “I will always show up for you, Yoongi.”

Yoongi is still so weak, so fragile, but he manages to lean in and kiss his boyfriend. Seokjin savors the kiss for all it’s worth. He wasn’t sure he’d have this opportunity again and he doesn’t want to waste it. He wants it to be a kiss that he can always remember.

When they part, Yoongi smiles. “I’m sorry I missed our ice cream date.”

He chuckles, “it’s okay, honey boy. We have plenty of time left for more ice cream dates.”

Finally, Yoongi notices the small plush frog that’s been laying next to him. He reaches over, picking it up. He grins, looking over at his boyfriend. “What’s this?”

“I saw it in the gift shop. I thought you might like something to hold when you woke up.”

“I have you, silly.”

“You do but this is much smaller. It’s a bit easier to cuddle than I am when you’re in this state.”

Yoongi shakes his head. The tiniest giggle escapes his lips. It’s the absolute sweetest sound. “I always liked a little challenge.”

“I know you do, Mister Chases-Down-Strangers-In-Parking-Lots-To-Try-And-Convince-Them-Of-Being-Your-Soulmate.”

Yoongi lightly shrugs. “Well, it worked, didn’t it?”

“It sure did,” he answers, leaning in for another soft kiss.

“I still love it, though. Thank you.”

Seokjin nods. “There is one more thing I bought at the gift shop but it’s a bit cheesy.”

“Show me!” There’s that Yoongi excitement that Seokjin knows and loves.

He reaches into his pocket, having kept his surprise hidden away for hours. He didn’t tell Jimin about it, either. He wasn’t even sure he’d give it to Yoongi. It’s a silly gift. Yoongi may not even react as well as he thinks he will. He may hate the idea entirely.

Seokjin keeps the surprise concealed in his hands, leaving Yoongi no room to guess what it is. All he can hear is the sound of plastic crinkling. He’s trying to imagine what would be in a gift shop that could be so small yet make so much noise.

“First, I need to tell you something.”

“Okay,” Yoongi says, expectantly.

“I love you so much.”

Yoongi smiles. “I love you, too.”

“You’ve been my best friend for five years now. You’re my favorite person to ever exist. I’ve never been happier than I am when I’m with you. I’m pretty sure you make me a far better person, too. I learn so much from you, about how to love life and love others and love myself. I’ve never met anyone like you, Min Yoongi, and I don’t think I ever will again.”

Yoongi wipes his own tears away. He just woke up from being knocked unconscious and Seokjin is saying all of this? Does he not realize how fragile his heart is right now?

“You make me want to believe in soulmates.”

His boyfriend overdramatically clutches his chest, gasping as he does so. “Little ol’ me?”

“Yes, you,” Seokjin responds in a teasing manner. “Close your eyes.”

Yoongi follows his instructions, closing his eyes. He hears the plastic crinkling once more, almost like it’s been ripped open. He hears his boyfriend struggling with whatever it is, which only makes Yoongi laugh.

After a few moments of silence, Seokjin says, “okay, open.”

When Yoongi looks up, he finds Seokjin holding a red ring pop. He’s presenting it to the boy, a nervous yet excited grin on his face. “Today made me realize something.”

“What’s that?”

“That if something were to ever happen to you, I want to be the first person that’s called. I love your parents but I don’t want to find out from them. I want to be your emergency contact, forever.”

“How do you plan on doing that, hm?” Yoongi knows the answer but he needs to hear Seokjin say it. He has to.

He smiles, reaching for Yoongi’s hand. He doesn’t do anything, yet. “Forgive me for not having a real ring. I promise to buy you the prettiest one, the ring of your dreams. But for now, will you accept this cheesy, strawberry-flavored ring pop I bought from the hospital gift shop? And will you marry me?”

“Well, I’m usually more of a cherry-flavored ring pop kind of guy,” Yoongi answers, unable to hide his smile. “But I know how much you love strawberry so I’ll make an exception.”

“So that’s a yes?” Seokjin asks.

Yoongi reaches out, placing the ring pop on his own finger. “Yes, Seokjinnie, I’ll marry you.”

Seokjin stands up, leaning down to kiss his fiancé. They both smile into the kiss, giggling the entire time. Love must look like this. It has to. It cannot be anything else but this.

“You’re gonna be my husband some day,” Yoongi whispers. “That means you’re stuck with me forever.”

“Wasn’t that already in the soulmate handbook?”

He laughs, nodding his head. Yoongi wraps his arms around Seokjin’s neck, pulling him closer. He’s in so much pain. His inside hurt, all of his broken bones are telling him to stop moving so much but he can’t help it. He can never get enough of Seokjin.

“Kim Seokjin: Moon, Soulmate, Husband, Emergency Contact. I kind of like the sound of that.”

“Good. Better get used to it.”

Yoongi kisses him quickly. “Already am.”
